I noticed that in warehouse---you are playing single notes but yet Dave strums all the strings? I'm not sure what he's doing. Can anyone go into detail on how this is played?

Warehouse relies on a muting technique. You need to hold that one note but strum all six strings. The best way is to hold down the string you need to play the note on and then rest your fingers on the five other strings. That will create the sound. Hope that makes sense.

when you lay your finger down a certain way- you can do it so it mutes out a string or two next to it.
try putting your index down on seven- and have it kinda rest on the A string at the same time- and strum just the top 2 strings if you can [that takes practice]
then put your middle finger down on A string 9th fret [muting here probably won't really happen] and strum more of the top 3 strings
and then your pinkey down on D 11 and try to strum it too. it takes practice no doubt.
key thing is- you don't have to hit all 6 strings every time you strum up or down. practice practice practice. :D
good luck.

That's what I was thinking. Just out of curiousity, why go through all the trouble of muting when he could just pick the individual notes???

The muting creates a much fuller sound.

When i say "pick the notes" i mean arpeggios? I think that's the term. In other words---one couldn't strum the intro to Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses. Why not though? I am guessing because they are individual notes spaced out all over the fret board and played seperately not together. This is what I saw when I looked at the tab for Warehouse and why I was so amazed that it is strummed and not picked.

To learn it correctly(strumming) I would suggest watching a video of dave playing it i.e "r2t record exchange" (first store playing apperance), "Live at Folsom field," "Listener supported." The r2t release show is probably the best one IMO.

Personally, I started playing it by picking the individual notes. Once I got that up to speed, then I tried strumming the chords leaving the open strings open (sounds like crap, but it was useful). Once that was up to par then I started muting the strings. I just kinda form the whole chord and let the fingers that aren't playing the current note just rest on the strings.
So I form the 7-9-11-x-x- and then the x-10-9-7-x- and go from there. I like dmbtabs' tab for it .... http://www.dmbtabs.com/song.php?sid=14 .... use the fingers below and you will see what I mean.
