I'll be there. heh.
I actually intend to make this the time that I meet up with some ants. I figure a bunch of you will be there.
Will be a great couple of days, no matter what. :D
I'm going to try to make it there this year (because the dates are't corresponding with my schedule as I had hoped, so I might take the extra money to do some traveling. Speaking of which, you're one of the few not bitching about the tour dates...and for some reason I'm doubting you're from Florida ;) ).

Hey Jeremy,
Not much is available - check expedia for Moses Lake and Ellensburg (sp?). Those are the 2 closest towns, about 20 min. to 1/2 hr. away.
My friends stayed in Moses LAke last year and said it was fine.
That best western on the gorge site is booked up already. I'm booked at the holiday inn express in moses lake, i think it was $79 a night for Sat. and Sun. nite. I'm going to stay in seattle on friday night so I can do some touristy stuff.

:bounce I'm going to the Gorge for the first time this year!! :bounce
Can anyone give me info on the best way to get to the Gorge from the Seattle Airport without renting a car. I plan to camp out both nights, even if I don't get tickets. So I just need a ride for me and my girlfriend from the airport to the venue.

Thanks Kristen - Hotel is booked, flight is next. I'll be visiting my niece and nephew for a couple days in Seattle and then seeing the band perform at one of their favorite places...

The Gorge is a loooong way from Sea-Tac. I'd try to track down some Seattle Ants and catch a ride with them. It's at least 3 hours from the airport if you know where you're going. I'd volunteer to do it but i'm coming form the other direction. This is year 5 for me at the Gorge and I really hope the redeem themselves after last year's let down. I'm sure you'll learn to love the Gorge like everyone else.

we rented a car from sea-tac to gorge and it was about 2.5 hours. not bad at all. i think you can fly into an airport a bit closer, but it's more expensive to fly into the smaller airport. if you get to seattle early or can stay an extra day, it's so worth it. i wandered the streets of seattle last year on a saturday night...it was great.

Hotels suck you have to camp if your going to the Gorge. camping is like 75% of the gorge expierence. I'll bee there again, never missed a Gorge show.

camping is key. what we do (cause we're old farts) is get a hotel nearby and rent a campground down in quincy. sleep at the hotel, spend all day at the campground and in the water...then it's on to the shows. last year was the best weekend ever.

I will so be gorge'n it this year again! But I have to agree Camping is the key to the Gorge! Never have I had so much fun or met some many p eople as in my camping area! We didn't stay in the Gorge Camp Ground which is just a walk to the amp. but we stayed where there was way more shade, pot, and year after year Gorge goers! I am sooooooooooo stoaked for this though! I just wish they were plaing Vancouver this year so I could do both shows! Ah well! Lots of traveling this summer I guess!

and from what i heard from friends who flew into spokane, prices may be higher do to the less traffic that airport conducts. they jumped from boise to spokane and user flyer miles...i think best bet is to still fly into sea/tac.

I wonder where the "preferred lawn seating" area will be...wonder if it would be right behind the fence in the steps area...or possibly in between GA and reserved (the small lawn space behind the beer garden/picnic area)...but on second thought that's probably not enough room. Should be interesting though...but I'm guessing that the preferred lawn seating will be where I'm at for at least one night since getting reserved seats for this 2-night stand will be INSANE! Only show for anyone in the NW...especially all the folks coming from Canada. Wow.

YES I WILL BE THERE!!
Oh wow I am so excited, I should be writing a paper that is due today... but when I found tour dates (my dad is now a fan and called me from the east coast to tell me to check my e-mail!) I had to get online. I am really bummed about this being the only show in the northwest, may try and make it to a show in California this year though...
So let's see... I will back up the camp instead of hotels thing, I think this is my 6th year going and every year we camp... you see people of all ages camping and I don't know anyone who does not enjoy it. Please do it if you can, and chances are it will end up being cheaper the closer we get to the show huh??
As for going out there, I will be headed out and I think there will be a few car fulls of us going, we may be able to fit some people from outta state in our cars, keep you all updated. I am so excited, hope to meet you ants over there... let's hope for an awesome weekend like in 2002! :) Let's keep this thread going and I hope to see you all in Sept... for those of you who have never been to a gorge show... you are in for a treat and for those of you who have, I am sure you share in my excitment... So sad it's not until the END of summer though, at least I can look forward to it for six months though...

I wouldn't be surprised if they added a show or two at the new White River Amphitheater near Seattle the following week.... especially given their relationship with Clear Channel. That venue would be an outdoor venue which this tour seems to focus on and it would be a hell of lot nicer than Portland or Vancouver's acoustically challenged arenas.

Here's my story. I'm stuck in Florida. There are four shows in that area that I would definately go to. However, there's the Gorge. Now there's no way I can come up with the cash for those shows and the Gorge, especially since I'm going to Bonnaroo. I need the advice of you Gorge veterans. Are two nights at the Gorge, at the end of the tour, better than four shows in the southeast? If yes, then I have a whole mess of planning to do.

Kristen or anyone - What hotels are near the Gorge? I found the Best Western on the Gorge site...is that the closest?
Thanks - Jeremy
I think the Holiday Inn at Moses Lake is pretty close. It still had some rooms available too.

If yes, then I have a whole mess of planning to do.
you know what's funny? i'm in the exact same position, i mean i could spend a few hundred and hit up the 3 or 4 shows "local" but then there is the gorge which would be close to 1000 to pull off (not counting people paying me back for tix, plane, etc.) so i'm stuck too, which should it be?!

I could be wrong but I doubt that will be the only stop in the NW, more dates, I think, will be announced, I am not worried
Yeah, there's some time around these shows. The show before it (right now) is on Tuesday 8/31, and the show after it (right now, according to USA Today) is on Wednesday 9/8 in Utah.
Hmm... a third Gorge show? A show or two at White River? Portland? Vancouver? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
For people looking for hotel rooms, you'll want to book ASAP. Labor Day weekend is actually a really popular time over in Moses Lake anyway for vacationers, let alone all of us concert-goers. The Holiday Inn Express is already booked ( :( ) so I booked a room at the Best Western in Ephrata, which is actually slightly closer to the Gorge than Moses Lake is. It's not on I-90 though, but that's not bad. I've spent a lot of time in Eastern WA so I know my way around. ;)
Anyway, I'm glad the shows are Labor Day weekend. The Gorge shows should always be on the weekend. :thumbsup
Can't wait! :multi

Try to go to the Gorge at least once. It will be a trip you never forget. Fly into Seattle and drive the rest of the way. The beauty and diverse geography will stun you. You will think you just landed in New Zealand. Two things you won't forget, your plane flight over Seattle and Puget Sound and the first time you walk in and see the Gorge and it's backdrop.

Camping around the Gorge is a piece of cake. I've been there 5 years now and never had to pay to sleep. Get in your car, find a dirt road and throw down the sleeping bag. Last year we camped in the mountains directly across from the venue. Nice and cool with amazing views. We even saw a few hundred head of elk. There are also plenty of places between the venue and Wenatchee to camp. Stay away from the Gorge's 'campground.' Unless of course you prefer to sleep in puke and immense heat.

If you could only do one night at the gorge which would you do? Or would you just say screw it and do both anyway?
hmm, I don't know what to do...is it still fun to camp on a night when you don't have tix?

"screw it and do both anyway" :)
If I didn't have a ticket for night 1, I wouldn't show up until night 2 - but that's because I'd be tortured knowing everyone was leaving and I wasn't gonna go to the show. But, you'd be able to hear the music although of course it wouldn't be the same. You could make it a good time. ???

so id say 29hrs of driving.
In other words. FLY! Chicago to seattle is a cheap ticket.

Fly to sea/tac and then fly to wenatchee it is about a 25 min. drive from there.
All of you who are pushing the Wenatchee airport must either work for them, or they should thank you for trying to get them business! :p I don't mean just you- I've seen others do it too.
Seriously, it's probably just as easy for someone to fly to SeaTac and rent a car or get a ride from someone over to the Gorge. Plus that way they get to see the mountains- especially the people coming from the east coast. :lol

easy kiddies. i'm pretty sure you have to be 25 to rent a car in washington. you better check up on that before hand...
As long as you are 21+ you can at least rent from Enterprise. I used them in RI and in VA and I'm not 25 yet. I checked on their website and it said it's 21+ in WA as well.

To quote OneSweetShannon: "Help us realize our dream! You can be assured that we are not asses who will annoy the people around us. You can be assured that we will appreciate that we are there and have respect for the band and the others around us by not leaving to make beer runs or go to the restroom during every song. You can be assured that, god forbid, one of us does need to use the restroom, that we will in fact go to the facilities rather than peeing on the pavillion floor."
I've been to every Florida show since we discovered the band in 99 (my friend missed a few but he has his head on straight now). We just began to branch out into Georgia and managed to drive to Boone from Miami for the Dave and Tim show. Now before we die or god forbid, the band breaks up, we want to see a show in the legendary venue know as the Gorge. We have no way of renting a car and we're prepared to sleep outside. All we need is a way there and believe me, we're nice folks. Just a couple of college guys born in the wrong region of the US.

To all campers at the Gorge venue campground:
1. It will be over 100 degrees every day, bring shade and water, there are no trees to speak of inside the campground.
2. I can't stress enough, bring lots of ice and water.
3. Be prepared. You will have to be totally self sufficient for the most part on food. There are small stores there though.
4. It is an experience, but be ready for a lot of loud party goers. ALL NIGHT LONG, very little sleep. Plus it's too hot to sleep during the day, unless you have a motor home with A/C.
I've done it twice, once in 2000 for 3 days, and another time in 2001 for 3 days also. It does have it's appeal, but trust me guys I'm ready for a hotel and two days this time around. I've booked my luxury sweet already :p :multi

I'm looking at renting an RV for this trip, I was curious if anyone knew if RVs were allowed at the Gorge campsite? are the hookup fees included in the price of the camping ticket? I'm looking at camping at the Gorge Friday & Saturday night (9.3 & 9.4) and staying at Gettys Cove Sunday night (9.5) so I can rest up for the drive home. Pluse I'd like to hang out on that river the next day if at all possible.
Thanks for the info!

one more question...
I notice the Gorge website says that there is a Beer Garden. Is that for the camping grounds, and does that mean that you have to drink your beer there or can we bring our own and drink it at our campsite? are they really strict? are there lots of cops roaming around or are you pretty much free to do "whatever" yuo like?
Thanks again!
Peace,

i think rv's are cool for gorge campgrounds. the beer garden they are referring to is in the actual venue. any drinking has to take place inside the beer garden. as for the campgrounds, i don't see why you wouldn't be able to have open containers, provided if you get questioned, you are of age...

At one point alcohol was banned in the campground due to some unfortunate incidents. However, this is not the case any longer.
There is a beer garden located in the campground next to the store and there is also a beer garden located in the venue.

They used to not allow alcohol in the campgrounds, but they changed that sometime before last year's shows. So, only way for ya to get into trouble at the campgrounds for drinking is if you're underage. But, I've never seen any sort of attempt to enforce those laws. Also, you can't take beer out of the campgrounds to cross over into the Gorge. So, you'll see like 30 people standing around some trashcans chugging beers before being allowed to continue "the walk." :) Kinda funny.

Does anyone know anything about Getty's Cove? I went to their website and I'm really interested in spending Sunday night and all day Monday there, but the phone number doesn't work and my email got returned. Do they shut down in the winter maybe or did they get a name change recently? any information would be helpful because I need to know before I buy my Gorge camp tickets. Well, according to some Nancies who normally camp at Getty's, see Gorge thread (http://nancies.org/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1678252277&perpage=15&pagenumber=27), they don't open their phone lines until sometime in March. Maybe, once tickets go on sale?? I dunno but yeah, seems as though they aren't open yet. **hoping I linked that correctly**

Don't know if anyone's said this yet - no hookups for RVs at the Gorge. I read that a bunch of places last year on different boards. But, it's also stated on the website for "creationfest" or something like that that is at the Gorge in May I think.

for those that are still trying to figure out how to get there, where to stay etc.....here is my .02
I flew into Portland last year and the drive from Portland was 3 hours, which is the same from Seattle. So, if you can get a cheaper flight into Portland, it's a route to look. And the drive is simple....2 highways....both interstates and you're there.
I stayed in Yakima over night, becase the other hotels were all booked. It's like 45 minutes to yakima from the amphitheater, but it was well worth it if you don't like camping.

Every person needs a ticket for there own 4 nights right? So do the other 2 people get their tickets through ticketmaster? And how does the camping work? You just get into the campground area, pitch a tent, and sleep with whoever you want? Just curious, so we can all stay together. I've never been to the Gorge, i"m trying to figure it all out ahead of time. If someone could let me know, that'd be great. Thanks guys.

when i booked my campsite at vantage, the lady asked how many tents we had.. like if we had one two-man tent or 2 tents...i think the sites are different sizes so it just depends how big you need it to house the folks you're camping with. vantage is costing us $20 per night.
