Nah man, just face it, Dallas is a no-go this year. It's okay, no reason to get worked up about it. Be happy for the two night stand at CWM Pavilion. Much rather have that than one night in each city.

WRONG. Last years show in Selma beat Houston & Dallas by far.WRONG. i've seen dmb in selma 3 years in a row and every year the set list is mediocre and the crowds blow. the venue is too big for a crowd that just isn't into it. last years selma show definately blows the other selma shows out of the water, but they always seem to lack energy there. (just my opinion) i also feel that dallas and the woodlands were better than selma last year.
*edit* would you honestly go out of your way to road trip to a show at selma over the woodlands?!?!?!
eric_dmbfan03
02-20-2004, 11:27 AM
Selma's set was good last year, but I don't know if it was better than Dallas'. Dallas' set had most of the songs that made their return last year, The Last Stop, Minarets, etc. The Woodlands was fun because at that time, that area was on the tail end of a hurricane and incredibly rainy season, so the lawn was soaked. Selma is the last place I'd go to for a show in Texas. Parking is always hectec there too because they don't open their lots until the doors open to the theater.

However, I don't think Dallas will be crying for too long. I smell fall/winter tour. A big one.

Selma was rated the best show of the Texas run just so you know. Their set was the biggest rarity of the TX run and was good. I liked it at Selma last year, but I'm gonna try for the Woodlands this year

As soon as the concert was over, I back in my Hotel with Wendy's burgers within 10 minutes. You gotta work around the parking if you want to get around quick. We planned it out well, so we got out quick. I'd go there again, but first I wanna try Woodlands

who "rated" the show the best out of the texas shows? dmbalmanac gives the show a high rarity for the simple fact of the uncommon sattelite opener, so right, and sleep to dream her in the main set (not played much last year), and a "5 song" encore which was really just 3 full songs with 2 little bitty ones. like i said, last years selma show blows previous ones out of the water, but it wasn't the best show in texas... this one was...

hey you guys seem to not have that short term memory loss thing going on...where can we tailgate? i seem to remember (?) that the woodlands frowned heavily on it last year and they were chasing people away...selma was the place to be before and after as far as tailgate parties were concerned. just wanted to know about the woodlands...i live here, you'd think i know- so?
also- who knows the name of the ONLY freakin hotel IN selma? it was right next to the venue if i remember- which obviously i don't...
clarion suites or comfort suites??? maybe econolodge??

I think we could tail gate at The Woodlands. I never park in the lot specifically for the pavilion, I always park at the end of the mall, next to the theater and walk to the pavilion. I think it's easier and obvioulsy a bit cheaper. We could tail gate there prior to the show. I'd be interested in meeting some Ants from the great state of Texas.

guys- you CANNOT tailgate at the woodlands !!
i am planning a giant party for us...that was/is the point of this thread.
plan A- book sports bar called ROOKIES on saturday day and get the rachels to play. they are my favorite locals and have mastered several dmb songs for me... :)
or
plan B - my house is about 30 minutes from the pavillion- out in the country : if no one cares about the drive its a party waiting to happen. we will be - not home- until saturday around noon time- but still, no biggy.

02-23-2004, 04:29 PM
That's a little drive ahead of you on Saturday. From downtown Houston to The Woodlands it'll be crowded and you may not make it to the pavilion by 6 or 7 depending on when you leave Minute Maid. I'm not sure where you're from but I-45 is always crowded especially since they're still working on the freeway. I'd like for the party at Rookies to be early so that we can get to the pavilion and listen to the soundchecks. I did that the last two years and it's really cool to listen.
mantra4
02-23-2004, 05:26 PM
in '02 when they hit the woodlands twice we went to the 'stros game the day before the second show, and we made it out there in plenty of time. i don't know if i'll have time to catch the game on saturday because of already existing plans (although i'd like too), but i'll definately hit the game on sunday. plus my dad lives in houston so i'll be able to shack up there if my crew doesn't want to go to the game on sunday

Hey kids~ I can't believe it's almost time to get tickets again, damn...I'm still drooling over the d&f show in LA. I'll be driving down south to hit up all 3 shows, we'll be staying at the Drury Inn on 45 (supposedly about mile from the pavilion). The Residence that is walking distance is booked solid for that weekend, some kind of marriot convention or something. Anyways, can't wait to party with the rest of you texas ants that weekend! Good luck to everyone getting WH tickets!!!

i'm pretty sure the ruling is to have the get together at rookies on saturday day...i'll finalize in plenty of time. i haven't gotten hold of the rachels, but if nothing else i'll see them this weekend. the drury inn is nice.. there are about 100 hotels within 3 miles of the pavillion. how did you get into sound check or did you just listen? i camped out there last year trying to catch a glimpse of someone or something during the day and evening with nothing....there is no tail gating and they don't open the gates until 1 hour before the show. parking is a bitch - even when you park at the mall - which i highly recommend! last year we spent over an hour in our parking spot before we could even move..it was crazy...selma was the same way. i don't remember dallas ;)

Last I went (David Gray) Woodlands Mall shut off their entire parking lot (not just the Pavilion side) to parkers. Seemed like they were trying to force people to pay $10 for the VIP parking garage. I was all worlds of pissed off. I have no clue if this is how it is from here on out, but just be forewarned that mall parking may no longer be available.

Well there's good news~ I called again tonight to see if I could get on a waiting list at the Residence on Six Pines and found that they actually had a room available!!! So definetley call and see if they've had any cancellations, and if not, then get on the waiting list to see if any open up between now and then [the phone number is (281) 419-1542]. So as of now, I have a room within walking distance that I'd be more than happy to share with some fellow ants before the show, and I'm on the waiting list for a bigger room. how did you get into sound check or did you just listen? i camped out there last year trying to catch a glimpse of someone or something during the day and evening with nothing....there is no tail gating and they don't open the gates until 1 hour before the show.
I got there about 3:30 pm and just sat outside the gates. I saw the busses come down and enter into the pavilion but they weren't letting anyone past where the busses were headed. Then I'd say about a little less than an hour later they started playing Fool To Think and When The World Ends.

so basically you just listened to the sound check from by where the busses park? i was on my way home to change and turn around and come right back at 3:30 last year.....
okay- i thought maybe you knew a secret tunnel or something... ha ha ha
they were giving me some really mean looks last year by the 67th time i made that loop with my dmblvr license plates...
the pouty, sad girl thing didn't fly with security at all - not at the woodlands anyway !! they didn't care that it was my 30th b-day ! they didn't care that i had just endured 9 hours worth of surgery 2 weeks prior and should have still been at home in bed... NO PITY what so ever !

I wouldn't mind going to the Woodlands. I hear it's a nice place, and I'm all about trying different venues. But I'm not a warm weather person (70 degrees is almost too hot for me) and airfare isn't any cheaper than it is to Seattle. So, ya know. :)

If you are in Michigan, then I would definately say chose Gorge over Texas. I've never been to either, but I don't know what can beat the 3 night stand at the beautiful Gorge during Labor Day.
I plan on going to both eventually, Texas this year.

Yeah, but I have to be back here on the Sept. 7. Well, I don't have to, but that's when class starts. I could probably be a day or two late with no problem. I just have to make a lot more arrangements for the Gorge.

In 2002, the Firedancer was on the back of the Texas shirt. As long as someone clears it with BamaRags, it'll work. From what I remember, they were pleased to hear that people were making a specific state shirt and were happy to lend out the rights to the logo.

I was trying to get row JJ.... cause that's the first row where you could have requested more than 2 tickets. I was in KK last year and I thought the viewing was great. If you're in row JJ, nothing is obstructing(sp?) your view to the stage. However, if your request was way off to the side, that was probably smart to pass on them.

what is going to be on the front, could we put some lyrics on there?
eric_dmbfan03
03-28-2004, 11:15 PM
The front is a few pages up, the one with the map. The only reason I'm opposed to placing lyrics is because I think it's kind of cliche. I don't particularly like the idea of having it. But if others would like it, go ahead and think of a few.
jasoncrwly
03-28-2004, 11:51 PM
First let me say that I'm not sure if I would like a lyric. It seems like it might be hard to find a lyric that everyone could agree on. Although, if others want one, that's fine with me.
In response to the graphic for the back, it looks marvelous. I have one suggestion though. It might be a little less cluttered if the Texas border was left out where it crosses through the letters "ex" in Texas. It's just an idea.
For the front design, the map is a bit questionable in my mind. I feel like the map would look better if it was from a "real" map. I feel like another downfall to the map is the fact that the shirts gets more expensive with each color. If everyone else likes the map that's fine. Just my personal opinion.
Overall I'd have to say "sweet ass!" I'm getting all pumped up just thinkin about it.

ok question my sister and i each bought singles for the woodlands and they happened to be in the same row and in the same section.....is it rude to ask people in our row to move down a seat so we can stand together?
maybe if it's just one or two people, but if it's more than that I would hesitate to ask.

Hey guys,
This is Berg - I do the DMB Texas site. I see you guys are planning on doing shirts - they look great. If you want me to help promote your shirts, I will put it up on the DMB Texas site once you guys get everything finalized. I can also send a mass email to everyone that is signed up for the message board - you should get a fairly big response from them.
If you guys want my help - catch me on AIM or email me.

Hey Steve, this is just nitpicky but can you change my name on the Dallas setlist to "Aguirre" with two Rs rather than one. And you can put my whole name, Eric Aguirre.

It's up to texasdmblvr about the emails to everyone. I know Kristen had a tough time last year with all of the shirts. Since she's on the other side of the shirt production, it would probably be best to talk with her.

I am in discussion with Eric about a contest on the DMB Texas site - for an exclusive DMB Texas merchandise item. More on the contest to come.

If everyone else is staying at the Marriott Waterway, I guess I will too. Sounds like a great place to hang out with people after the show and not fight the traffic. I'll get working on booking something soon.

It'll be a blast but be warned, it's expensive. It's worth is though, I dont wanna mess with traffic after the show.

Surprisingly, it's not at all that bad if you park at the mall. That one road takes you right to 45. I guess I'm going in the opposite direction of all the traffic since I'm leaving Houston, but I've never had a problem.
BergTexas
03-31-2004, 12:22 AM
I think people have been getting rooms for $99 - so that's not bad.
I have never been caught in the traffic too bad - but the 4 hour drive back to San Antonio can be rough in the middle of the night. Another nice benefit will be the parking situation - somebody should be watching my vehicle instead of just sitting in a mall parking lot.

I got mine for $94 with a AAA discount. Even if you don't have AAA (I do) you can get it. I stay in about 4-5 hotels/month and often book AAA, never been asked for my card.
