I've been to every DMB show in Florida since 2000 and it has rained on the day of the event every friggin' time. Does anyone remember that show in Sunrise a few year's ago where the power skipped out briefly? We all had to wade back to our cars that night. I'm crossing my fingers to break the streak this year. No rain for the Florida shows!

Yup, I remember that show, it was awful trying to get back to my car. Thankfully the rain stopped before WPB 1 in 2002. And I don't think it rained before the Tampa show that winter...

I do not camp, I like posh hotels, so I can't help you there, but regarding the WPB venue, :thumbsup. Security is usually lax, parking kind of sucks & tailgating is always fun. anything else?

I went to the DMB show in WPB two years ago and had a great time tailgating. We had no problems with cops. Since Tampa is a brand new venue and location, I can't say how its going to be there. My only concern is the weather. We usually get a storm everyday or so in the summer for about an hour. Other than that should be a great time!!!

WPB is always hot as hell and humid and rainy.....so tailgating sucks there. Tampa is right across the road from the Hard Rock Casino so that is probably where they will be staying. I doubt they stay the Red Roof Inn across the other street, lol

anyways, I can't go even though i live less than 3 miles away. I have to go to The Keys for Lobster mini-season....darn :thumbsup

which venue? If it's WPB, someone might have an idea of security. If you're talking Tampa, it's a different story, since it's brand new. And security is pretty different from venue to venue... SPAC is a notorious pain, for example.

Hey I have never been to the Sound Advice Amp in West Palm Beach, how is the venue? I know they say they have a rule of no alcohol in the lot at WPB but so does ALPINE and we all know that is definately not the case...What is the 911 on partying in the WPB lot...Help any one?

for WPB I have always brought a camera in, hidden in my bra. They occasionally have metal detectors...but if you go to a guy you are usually safe... as long as he appears to be between 16 and 30, cause he isn't really interested in the rules...he just likes the perks. So stick it in your perks and all will be well! Also...I have started to put my camera in my makeup bag. Put it at the bottom...add some lip gloss, mascara and two tampons...then definately go to the guy!!! THEY NEVER MOVE THE TAMPONS!!! Works like a charm, I hope that helps!

When I saw DMB at West Palm two years ago I remember walking around with bottles of beer and no one said anything. I had a blast partying in the parking lot although I got there a little later than I wanted to thanks to my brother. As far as sneeking a camera into any venue the tampon idea is a keeper. My friend got caught taking pictures inside the venue once and the security dude just took the batteries from her camera. But it all depends on the person.

I have never had a problem sneaking in with anything at WPB. As a matter of fact, I snuck in my Canon SLR with a rather large lens 2 yrs. ago and I plan on doing it again this year. They never search the ladies. Just flash them a sweet smile and you will be good to go....

Don't fret...I was just at the right place at the right time when the instant tickets went up and I put my order in the second they went up. So I guess this just confirms the whole theory about instants truly being on a first come first serve basis.

I just requested instants because at the time of intial ordering I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to Tampa or not. This was my first time ordering instants.

I also ordered instants for WPB1 because I got lawn seats (that i've already sold) but I am still waiting on those assignments to pop up.

You just might be ok. Traffic sucks on I-4 from the Disney area all the way into Polk county during 5 o'clock traffic. It usually clears up around 6 or so depending upon if there are accidents are not. The venue being new and its proximity to I-4 is what worries me and the traffic getting in and out of there will be interesting.

The traffic does kinda suck, but at least it's a thursday not friday :evil . And it is the fairgrounds, whenever i've been there for an event at expo hall they funnel cars into their massive parking lot pretty quick, you can also get in from MLK if i remember correctly.

It's up on the tampa amp website. So I dunno if it is true or not...Maybe people that went to the opening night show at the venu tonight might know. Although it is Michael W Smith, a christian singer, so I don't know how crazy those christians get into their tailgating.

I'm reading the rules on the website.... and I thought SPAC security was tough! A sample:

(under a section on things that can be brought to some shows):
Blankets: Blankets are flammable and can be used to throw guests into the air. The Ford Amphitheatre security personnel reserves the right to inspect all packages and bags carried to the amphitheatre front gates. The security staff can also conduct voluntary searches of the guests entering the facility at a search level previously determined by management for each specific show.

(I've yet to see a venue that didn't allow blankets...)

If your definition of "tailgating" is drinking alcoholic beverages, then it is not allowed. Guests using grills or having picnics in the parking area create a safety concern and disrupt foot and auto traffic flow.

What is your "scalping" policy?
"Scalping" is a slang term for the unauthorized sale of event tickets. This practice is not permitted on the grounds of Ford Amphitheatre. Anyone who is attempting to "sell" tickets at any price (even if it's being sold below face value) will be asked to leave the premises.

(FL law normally permits this as long as it's not more than $1 over face value... should be noted that Philips Arena in ATL had a similar rule... pain.)

How can people be stopped from standing up during the concert?
Depending on the audience demographics at specific concerts, standing during a performance is sometimes accepted as normal. Security and Guest Services staff members allow guests to stand if the majority of the crowd is also standing and will ask the audience to be considerate of those around them if they choose to sit during the concert. Additionally, many artists will instruct the amphitheatre staff not to ask anyone to sit down during their performance. Each situation is handled on an individual basis. Standing on seats, rails or other structures is not permitted at the amphitheatre. Additionally, standing or dancing in the aisles is not permitted because of fire codes, but guests from the pavilion are encouraged to move to the lawn area if they would like to dance.

EDIT: for what it's worth, WPB's website says the same thing about alcohol and grills, but isn't so harsh on blankets, and says nothing about tailgating.

I went to the show at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa back in Dec. 02. I didn't really intend to tailgate, but I think there were tailgaters outside. Of course, that was a different situation... much of the parking is other private lots, and there were several bars across from the venue. And, even though it's FL, it was December and still kinda chilly (but not as cold as Atlanta the night after!). And there were plenty of people (myself included) just outside the venue trying to sell tickets...

from wht I've heard they aren't even going to open the lots until just before they open the gates. So trust me they are doing everything they can to make sure we can't hang out in the lots. Gates are apparently around 5:30.

I went last year too and they turned us away since we had blankets. It sucked, not only did we have to walk all the way back to the car but no blanket to sit on the lawn with.

I dont think there is anything that is walking distance...but then again it depends on how far you want to walk. :lol since it is at the fairgrounds, once you get in the main gate, it would still be a good walk to the Amp.

I must be feelin a bit better b/c I have been a pissy mood all afternoon. I even went off on one of my co-workers who called me- then I got flowers sent to me from my office about an hour later and felt like a total shithead for being rude.

On a rather amusing note- I didn't give the police my home number so a bunch of ambulance chaser attorneys have started calling work trying to get ahold of me.
