Nothing makes up for completely skipping us.
But a Seek Up Opener and a Halloween closer would be a good start.
if they did do that, Will, i would never speak to you again.

Tell your wife you're going to Disney World. When you get to Orlando, tell her Disney's closed for repairs so lets go visit your friend in Boca.

Can't wait for that new amphitheater. I grew up in Clearwater but I've been up at school at UF, so I didn't know they were building that.
Also, on www.dmband.com if you click for the WPB shows it says "Sound Advice Amphitheater". then for the venue website it says www.marsmusicamp.com. Then under ticket info they call it coral sky amphitheater. I wish they could just call it coral sky like it was initially, not all these corporation smothered names.

i'm stoked. i became a dmb fan after '03 dates were announced, and was -----><----- this close to getting to atlanta (i live in tallahasssee), but it didn't work out, so i've been longing to see any kind of show, and now it seems completely possible for me to see 4 shows. yes, this is awesome.
I'm probably hitting Tampa at least, maybe WPB #1 instead.

Timing is awful for me. Right in the middle of sweeps, meaning no vacation time allowed. So WPB is out of the question. I may be able to swing Tampa or Atlanta. So, I'm looking to hit up SD and PHX. I was planning to visit relatives out there anyways... so now that visit will just match DMB tour dates. But this sucks... 3 shows within a 4 hour drive, and I don't think I can hit any of them... grrrr.

I can't wait....3 dates in FL!!! I've never seen a bad show in Tampa, Dave loves playing there, should be cool to see them at this new venue too. All the shows at the Ice Palace have been good. For sure I am gonna catch these 3 and Atlanta. Now its just time to decide what shows to hit on the annual road trip up the coast. I'm thinking CT and Camden, maybe Virginia Beach. Never been CT Meadows, but it will definitly be a good time. I got to see them in Camden in '02 for my 21st birthday, and this year it will be another birthday night with DMB in CT...can't wait. After the energy of last summers tour and the 2 shows I caught with D&F, I can't wait to see what the band puts together for us this summer!!

I'm so ready to go to all four in the SE...but I can't pass up the Gorge. If my ride comes through, I'm so there. If not, then I'll just have to pray for Seek Up, Halloween or Dreaming Tree in one of those four shows. It's not guaranteed that they would play em at the Gorge but that doesn't matter...IT'S THE GORGE.

im up at UF also, so excited that the boys are coming down south, still about an hour or so drive from where i live in miami, but cant wait. i saw pearl jam at sound advice amp from the 7th row abotu a year ago and the setting was real nice, im sure it will be great to see the band there. who knows maybe on the day in between tampa and WPB they come and play at Sidebar here in gainesville :)

i feel obligated to see all three now. who knows when i will ge a chance at another florida show.
my only complaint, if there is one, is that 2 yrs ago during the July show at WPB, the temp was around 309 degrees. it was unbelievably hot, so that's my only fear about a July outside show.
maybe it'll rain or something that day to help it out a bit.

I know your fears, I was thinking the same thing. A July show outside in FL will be HOT. It's like living on the face of the sun here. But an outside concert accoustics are much better than indoor arena. I can't wait.

Well it looks like DMB will be the first to play at the Tampa Bay amp.

it is hot and really no big deal. it was muddy in the lawn at WPB in 02' which is the only downside to rain. and tailgating could be hurt by it. but really, either way i am gonna be so happy to just be at a DMB show again.

People say Florida is hot in the summer but having moved from NJ it's just as hot here (FL) in July as it is in NJ. Dave played a couple years ago at Office Depot Center formerly National Car Rental Center. The acoustics were horrible, saw Jimmy Buffett there and it felt like I was listening to the teacher on Charlie Brown. Never go to a show there unless you've got primo seats. Sound Advice aka Mars Music aka Coral Sky is a great place to see a show as long as your not on the long. I'm going to hit the Tampa show and (1) WPB show.

What are your comments regarding the venue in West Palm? Is the energy normally good and is the venue sound itself good? I am just trying to figure out if i want to take the trip down there from Atlanta to see the 2 night stand. Do you think it would be better just to drive up to Antioch or is West Palm usually good?

The WPB venue is OK, crowds are OK. I've seen them there once, and I was on the lawn... the only time I've been on the lawn. From what I've seen, Antioch usually gets pretty good guests. So if going to WPB means missing Antioch, I might lean toward Antioch.
willnole
02-22-2004, 02:31 PM
I'd say I've seen crowds all around the country. Before I saw a show anywhere else, all I heard was how Florida crowds suck, blah blah blah. Well it's really bullshit. The energy of the crowds is as good as anywhere I've been. If you get a good seat on the lawn, accoustics and vision will be ok. I will agree that when you're at the top of the lawn , it's not the best concert experience, to say the least.

How does west palm compare to lakewood (or hifi buys) in atlanta?
West Palm is nice compared to lakewood. but it's going to be unbelievably hot there in July. that is my worst fear.
2002 was aweful in WPB, shitty songs played, and aweful weather made it unfun (for me at least).

Weather could have been worse. I was there the first night, and was glad it didn't rain. That was my third concert, and it poured during my first two.
But you're right... setlists left much to be desired, on the first night at least. The nice thing was hearing the first Loving Wings, but on the lawn at least, since nobody knew what it was, nobody would stop making noise.

WPB is also relatively easy to get out of, compared to HiFi Buys/Lakewood. That may have been helped by the fact that I was late to the WPB show, and parked near the "front" of the lot. And the fact that my cousins live all of 15 minutes from the venue, so my trip home wasn't very long.

Disney dropped the ball on that. They did have some plans for one, but it was just an idea. It would've been Due North of Animal Kingdom if you're looking at an aerial map of WDW. they had the idea of building an ampetheater and a roller coaster park in the same area. but now that tampa beat them to the punch, it'll never happen.

Personally, I plan to take the free route, staying with relatives (which is what I did for the winter 2002 tour stop in Tampa). With the amphitheatre being near the intersection of I-4 and I-75, most "popular" places should be pretty convenient (assuming you have a car...).

Not even the ticketbrokers have better than Section 300 seats. It's weird, I'm guessing you're right and ClearChannel, the owner of this venue, is holding back tickets. I guess I'll have to listen close on the radio for giveaways, what else would they be doing with these tickets?

If you can get to the front of the lawn, then it's well worth it. Besides, it always feels nice to have spent 20 bucks less than the guy who is in the last row of the back section, and be about 10 feet further back. Not bad.

You coming from FL to SPAC????
yes. Around the time the rumored dates were announced in February, my family was in the process of planning a trip to visit my grandparents, who live in the Albany area. I said that was a perfect time, knowing DMB could be playing at SPAC. Originally I was going to fly up the 3rd, come home the 6th. About three weeks ago, when nobody had heard much about the festival, and there was more chatter about SPAC, I looked into getting a few more days off from work, and going up on the 1st. I booked my plane ticket, going up on the 1st, about 4 days before the dates were announced. Good timing on my part. Long answer to a short question.
I should also add that I went from FL to SPAC last summer. Since FL got completely skipped, and Atlanta wasn't going to be enough for me, I looked for other places to travel. SPAC was a 2-night stand, with good timing, and a place where I had a free place to stay... so I went. Great venue, great shows. So I'm going back.

Do you have people to stay with? I'm now thinking about flying from Michigan but I'd probably be by myself, so I'd want some people to share a hotel with. Are you going to WPB too? I'd like to, but of course I would need a ride from someone.
Are any Tampa people making the drive to WPB?

Hmmm that could be a reason why there is no tailgating...the fact that the amp is right on top of I-4. Hell the lawn is a beer bottle throw away to the Interstate. This should be interesting....

I sent a letter to the campus activities board at UCF a year and a half ago when there were rumblings that D&T were going to tour again asking that they consider bringing them to the school. I never got a reply. I think they prefer spending their money on loser things like after hours entrance at Islands of Adventure.
Tailgating at tampa=no go. The venue reportedly has banned tailgating once it opens to the public.

I can't knock CAB to hard, they do a lot to get stuff for the students, but I don't think D & T would ever think of coming to UCF. I've tried a couple times to bring it up in meetings but it never seems to fly. The idea that college people listen to dMb surely doesn't apply to UCF, I wish it did though. At least then I wouldn't get the strange looks when I'm playing LWS or UTTAD or anything dMb related for the matter.

Oh I know they do alot of cool things. Its just UCF will never be on caliber with other college students listening interests because the school is a commuter school and brings in a diverse population. That said, I have several friends at UCF that do love DMB so go figure. Another reason why I don't think they could bring a show like D&T is because the last tour was going for places that averaged 8,000-10,000 seats. UCF's arena only sits 5,000 which is rather on the small size. The new 10,000 seat convocation center breaking ground this fall should hopefully bring some more sizeable acts to the school.

UCF is definitely lacking DMB fans, I'll agree with you guys on that! I have a final the night of the concert and I'm probably screwed b/c I don't know any huge fans here in the Orlando area. So if you know anyone who needs tickets, mine are Section 305, Row V, upper pavillion.
there is certainly a dearth of DMB fans in Orlando. Weird, b/c one of the best shows I ever saw crowd-wise was right here in O-town in 2000. Maybe there is just a lack of college-age fans, but more older fans around the greater Central Florida area.

That Orlando 2000 concert was awesome! That was my 1st show and it hooked me... unfortunately all of the people I knew that loved DMB moved away or are evil... imagine that! I wonder what the deal is with the lack of fans are here, it really didn't even surprise me that they skipped us last year.

from what I hear, they skip orlando for a few reasons, one being the venue isn't the best for concerts, and the staff is a pain. that's only what I hear, not a 'mortal lock' for the reasoning.

That's interesting. I think Orlando needs a brand new ampitheatre and they'd be here... I just wish I had been a big DMB fan back in the day when they played at the Edge for like $10

Yup that's why they don't come here. The TD Waterhouse Centre is a god awful facility. The acoustics suck, probably one of the worst indoor venues in the country.

Having just graduated from UCF I agree there are not that many Dave fans. I think if Dave and Tim would have came it would have been insane. With that new convocation center it does seem that the school will be able to bring in some larger acts.

Did anyone hear the news that Brittney Spears canceled her summer concert tour? Ok now don't jump on my back quite yet. She was scheduled to play the night before Dave at the Ford amp. Well I'm thinking since Thursday nights show sold out so fast maybe they'd be willing to play an extra night on Wednesday? Hey a girl can hope can't she?

I doubt it that would make it 4 straight days of touring days and usually the most they do is 3 in a row then a day off. They will be coming from atlanta to Tampa and have wednesday off.

Somehow I don't see them playing the maker, or maybe that and another song with lanois guesting. it would be pretty cool to see dave come out for the opener too. either way, it should be fun.

I've been to every DMB show in Florida since 2000 and it has rained on the day of the event every friggin' time. Does anyone remember that show in Sunrise a few year's ago where the power skipped out briefly? We all had to wade back to our cars that night. I'm crossing my fingers to break the streak this year. No rain for the Florida shows!

I remember that show in Sunrise, at least it was indoors. The power went out right during the Ants encore and we walked in the dark with the emergency lights on right outside into a monsoon. Still I would rather be outside, but that lightening on the way to the car was pretty damn scary.

Gotta love the florida thunder storms. I'm reading a post about the power going out in Tampa a couple years ago, and guess what? The power goes out. Anyway, I've been planning on going to all the FL shows, and bought WH tix as well as put in request for Instant Ticketing, just in case I can get some better seats. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to the Tampa show, due to school issues.
Bottom Line: I've got extra tickets if anyone is in need. I'll be posting in the Tickets forum as well. $125.00 a pair. This is below what I was charged by the Warehouse, in case anyone thinks I'm selling them to make money. These are all seats (not lawn)
Tampa:
1st Pair: 101 M
2nd Pair: Will know seat location as soon as Warehouse assigns them
West Palm Night One: Will know seat location as soon as WH assigns them
West Palm Night Two: Will know seat location as soon as WH assigns them
I guess I should include contact info.
