I think we all are excited to see something new in a show. If you guys listen to any Phish's boot's with Twezer and then the twezer reprise later in the set it is just awsome and I think you would understand
I've been wondering the same thing.
Because it means the band is taking chances. I've been wanting to hear a reprise-esque move by the band for a while, an opening with too much and closing with a reprise is a good way of doing it.

im not sure how they would go into a Too much outro. Dont drink the water is Drop D tunning and Too much is regular tunning. Dave would have to switch guitars or tune it himself really quick if they changed songs. The too much outro might just be that crazy outro hes been doing at the end of DDTW at every show. Ive seen it a bunch of times this summer. Its sick.

any song can be played in drop d tuning with different fingering...too much especially wouldn't be that big of a deal he just changes like one finger basically, no guitar switch needed just for a short reprise or outro or whatever it was

Great show in Atlanta tonight. The rain held off until right after the band finished the set. It is now pouring out there and the people headed out of the venue are probably getting drenched. The band opened the show with Two Much, which has taken on a distinctly different feel this year. They're so "into it" that they came back and closed the encore with the Too Much outro. We're headed further south for a few shows in Florida. See y'all in Tampa on Thursday.

this must be at least the third show in a row they've played it. and at the charlotte show i heard them soundcheck it (the only soundcheck song they played).

Just got back from the show...They did jam out Too Much for the opener but I think Dave added the Lil Jon "WHHHATT's" in the closer outro. I personally was really disappointed when they played Too Much twice. This was my first show and I was hoping for a Watchtower or Rapunzel. Oh, and it was really weird too because they did stop for a good 30 seconds and then just started jamming for about a minute then quit. I was like, "WTF?"

I'm glad the boys are experimenting and trying new things when they try to perfect their already amazing shows it means that we are going to def. get more and we are already getting soooo much anyway! I fully support this!!!!! :bounce :bounce :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

West VA, sorry if I gave the impression that I didn't like the show...The concert was absolutely amazing, one of the best I've ever been to. Warehouse had something extra, seemed like they jammed out the salsa part an extra 16 measures or so. Bartender was unreal and so was Crush. DDTW is a great closer believe it or not but I just didn't like the idea of playing Too Much twice. WHen they started I was saying, "They know they played it already, right?" SOon I realized it was the outro and if it had gone on for awhile, I might've let it go, but they just ended it pretty abruptly. Anway, don't get me wrong. FUcking awesome setlist (almost forgot Captain) but ending I expected better

i think that's awesome that they did the reprise like that. it's shit like that that renews my faith in this band. they should start doing that on songs like last stop and liog. i think it's great that they have so much fun jamming that out that they bring it back to end the show. you guys are lucky to have seen it.

DDTW encore rocked!
the crowd really seemed into it. the ones around me were all dancing and singing throughout the show!

lots of crowd noise waiting for the encore.the band and the crowd really seemed into it throughout!

Drove from Myrtle beach to see the show. 6 1/2 hours of nasty rainy humid mess to see a 2 1/2 hour show. worth every minute of it. too much opener and a reprise at the end with nothing but scatting. unbelievable. i hope we've got good tapers in ATL. i'd like to have this show on cd tonight if i could.

The outro seemed to me like ASTB into the last chorus of Too Much. It definitely was *not* part of DDTW.
I agree,at first I thought they were going straight into ASTB, then I figured out it was Too Much. Not an outro to DDTW at all, but a reprise.

Just got back from ATL. Wild night for me. Me and my friend lost our tickets to scalpers in an attempt to get closer seats (they were fakes). We went to the ticket booth and they had two tickets 8th row dead center! We bought them and it was well worth the moeny spent. Too Much rocked beginning and end. I was surprised with the DDTW closer, then dissapointed when Dave didn't do the wailing part at the end because I figured he would nail that with it being the closer and all. Then after the song he walked over and switched guitars. The Too Much reprise closer was a HUGE surprise. I don't even think anybody knew what it was at first. By the end of it everyone around me was jumping up and down screaming "YEEAAAHH" with Dave. Then energy at that moment was incredible! Great way to end a great show!

the reprise was very cool...they just busted into the chords of what would be the chorus, jammed it for a little bit while dave was scattin...crowd going nuts. then he only sang the "i eat too much" end of the song, and then of course kept the crowd going on the last note of the song. amazing, amazing...

I was the show last night as well as Raleigh. Show was pretty good. I liked hearing Captain, wasn't expecting that.
The only bad part after the show i got lost in the parking lots, the entrances look the exact same. I walked really far only to realize i was in the wrong lot. Then i luckily found one of my friends who was confused too. Then it started to rain really hard! We asked a cop but he told us the exact opposite way to go, dick. We walked around a good 30-45 minutes in the rain until finally somebody told us the right way to go. I had the keys and 2 more of my friends were pissed off they had to wait in the rain for us.
Then i had to drive 7 Hours home to Tampa on little sleep in about 2 days.
Oh yeah we were in a Black Durango if anyone saw us.
Now its Tampa and off to West Palm.

What a show. I had gone from charlotte to raleigh then to atlanta and all 3 were good shows. I was in fact a little disappointed that they didnt change the songs up that much between the 3. I heard a few songs all 3 nights and i just dont think a band with that many songs needs to do that, but fuck it i had a blast. The Too Much reprise was nice and yes he teases lil' john in the outro of too much. He did it in raleigh and i was like "that sounds like dave chapelle" then after a few "yeas" i see dave look back at carter and kind of smirk, then he proceeded to scream "what" and it was definately funny. The coolest was #41 into everyday in raleigh very unique and "for what its worth" outro to jimi thing in charlotte was awesome! I also think sugar will needs to be shortened, the jamming is too much of the same, but the song itself is very good, esp. lyrically. what does everyone else think? Oh well great 3 nights and now my tour is over.

As much as I hate to say this, I am completely livid about this show. My three friends and I drove up early Tuesday morning for the show. Tailgating is possibly the only thing that made the show worthwile. Worst setlist possibly ever. Worst drivers parking-wise ever.

Ya, enjoyable story from that:
My three friends and myself were piled into my friends Maxima stuck dead in the lane of traffic for a full hour and a half. About thirty minutes into the wait, during the monsoon, a cute girl with a nice rack hopped into the back left seat, sitting on my friend's lap. She continued to talk to us about life, the concert, her (now see-through) white shirt, and dozens of other exciting facts of life.
Just thought that was a little fun. She said it was a great concert and I nearly kicked her out of the car. J/K! But anyways, can't wait till Nashville in less than a week and Alpine Valley three days later.
Peace

You make me sick, as do all people who complain about DMB shows where what they wanted played wasn't played. I mean hell, I had my songs I wanted them to play, as I'm sure every single person who was there did. But shit: it's Dave Matthews Band. Simply put, I don't think you can call yourself a fan if you can't go to a show and enjoy yourself no matter what songs they do or do not play, regardless of other fans there, the parking, the traffic, or whatever else you may have a problem with.

I'll defend this guy in one regard.. there are outside circumstances that can affect your mood / mindset before going to a show, and the concert experience can be less than stellar. That's happened to me.... but I felt that my bad mood was made better by being there, even though I just couldn't get into it. I don't agree with saying that an experience left me "livid". If I felt that way.. I'd have to walk away from being a fan, and I can't understand how any show would leave you feeling that bad.

Yes, I can see how someone would be livid with the way things are set up at HiFi Buys. Definitely terrible parking, traffic, and a kind of slummy amphitheatre. Philips Arena (in Atlanta) is a much better place to live in. The traffic jam outside caused me to get there during the middle of the first song, so that put out a negative spin on things, plus this crowd was dead, except for when it moved to get beer, which was always an insane amount of people.
This show was not amazing. Some parts of the set were great, but two step alone does not make it amazing. The encore was cool and different but a bit disappointing. The first several songs of the show weren't anything to snuff at especially, but it picked up eventually.

I agree, HiFi Buys was kinda slummy, especially with the tons of ivy growing through it all over the place. I had pavilion seats, but the lawn was shitty. Did you go to this show? This setlist may or may not look good on paper, depending on the songs you like, by this show was very mellow. The crowd was dead and that takes away from a show a whole bunch.
Two step doesn't make this show "amazing" by any means. It is a great song, but it doesn't change the whole show.
no LIOG, no Halloween, no Rapunzel, no Last Stop.
Instead its When The World Ends, I Did it, Everday.
This show was good with many highlights, but DMB has certainly put on better shows.

Yes, I was at the show. Yes, the crowd sucked ass(at least in the seats). But, it was still an awesome show. So you're saying you expected them to play Last Stop or Halloween? Last Stop was only played several times last year and Halloween wasn't played at all. Rapunzel has been played several times this tour, but they decided not to play it. Oh no! They didn't play the song you wanted to hear! LIOG has been rare this year as well. Oh, and they played three Everyday songs! This show really did suck. Please...

OK, i just read through a few of your posts, and i have a few things to say to those of you that want to complain about the show or whatever. there are plenty of people like myself, who haven't been fans since 1990 or whenever, and haven't had the opportunity to see them 100 times in concert. i'm very glad they are still touring and making music, and if i can go see them in the future, i will, even if the setlist is all from Everyday and Busted Stuff, and they don't play one single "old" song or whatever. I think the chance to see DMB in concert is such a privilege, that i'm gonna take advantage of it as much as i can.
And as far as traffic goes, i was on 85/75 North about 5 min after getting out of the parking lot. and i only waited about 20 min to get out of the parking lot. if it took you a few hours, you must not have a clue about driving

Mellow? Were you sitting outside the venue or something? I've seen several DMB shows.. mostly in the Southeast.. but I've seen a few in other places, and I have been to Atlanta many times consistently.. these guys get up for Atlanta like I've never seen at other places. Granted, I've never been to Alpine, MSG, or the Gorge, but Atlanta is a highlight stop for them, and it shows when they play there. They're always really into it... this year was no exception. Many try to point to 2001 as an "off" year in Atlanta... that was a real mellow show, but the boys were really into it despite the mellow setlist... that show really didn't get going until the end. This year's was far better than that show and the energy much better. Probably one of the very best I've seen in Atlanta...
The ED songs you point too are atleast upbeat, and don't kill the vibe like TSB or STDH tends to do, so I'd be thankful those were the ED songs he played. If the band playing ED songs kills your experience, I'd consider not going to live shows anymore... songs from that album will always have a chance of being played, and most likely will.

Ok, by no means was this show terrible. If anybody got the impression that I did not have an unbelievably good time at this show, I am sorry, because I did. The songs were good, but could've been better. The band had energy as always, the crowd didn't, but it was still a fun time. But, yes the ED songs (minus Bartender) could've been left out of the show, but I don't make the setlists. I had a good time, but many shows on this tour have been excellent, and I personally do not think it's been that much better than other shows.
By the way, on the traffic thing, the traffic going in was bad. I had no trouble getting out.

yeah....and still fans prefer TSB or STDH to those 3 overplayed, equal songs (except ED possibly)

I was the drunk idiot sitting in the pouring down rain next to a keg under an umbrella all by myself right outside the exit. Anyone stop by and have a beer with me? I was offering them to everyone. :D

i didn't even know there was an atlanta post... for all those who didn't like the set or hifi... please don't come back so i'll have a chance for better seats. 22nd row was great, setlist was great, sound was great... i also didn't mind the traffic jam in the monsoon (we smoked it out for a good hour and a half). plus, atl has a different breed of people... WEIRD people, and they get to entertain you in the parking lot.
are any of you southerners going to gainsville for the end of the vote tour? i want to go and was wondering what kind of show it will be (security and setlist wise).

Weird people? Huh?
Anyway, at the Widespread show at O'Connell a few yrs back, we walked across the street to the football field and smoked a joint on the 50 yard line, put the roach out on on the 'A' in Florida in the endzone. GO DAWGS. Of course that was pre-9/11 and there was not a game the next day. Security was non-exsistent at the center, no problems toting anything in, or doing anything inside. Setlist?...who the hell knows...

SWEEEEEETTTTT!
Looking forward to beating the crap out of Florida this year! Once that domino falls.. The florida game will be a perennial "W" for us... just like Tennessee is! Woo Hoo!
And no.. I refuse to go to any concert in Gainesville, so noone has to worry about competing with me for seats..

Upon listening to the audio of this show, that Lil Jon outro really adds soemthing to the end of the show, not sure I felt that way hearing it there live, even though I liked it... I also just found out Lil Jon is from Atlanta, ergo.. the reason it was brought out at that show... pretty funny.

Damn, that was confusing. I opened this thinking it was the '05 Atlanta thread and couldn't figure out where the conversation from yesterday went. :lol It's too early in the morning to already be wasting time at work...I can't even read dates! :lol

I once heard someone had a forthcoming DVD show of this show.. can anyone confirm or is this a wicked rumor that turned out to be untrue? If it has been filmed, it isn't out .. that I can confirm.
What I wouldn't give for a DVD of this show..

I wasn't sure about Captain when they started it, but I remember being very pleasantly surprised when it was over. And this show was the first I'd heard of any of the new songs. Hello Again was amazing, Joy Ride was fantastic, and when they broke into the first verse of Crazy Easy, I think my knees buckled. It was also my sister's first show; she's now a life long fan.
