i posted a thing about dumbasses at darien before in another thread a while ago. last year there were drunks everywhere. i have no problem with drinking at shows and all that (i love drinkin myself!), but when people can't stand up, are puking everywhere, and some didn't even watch a single second of the show b/c they were passed out...we have a problem. and it seems like darien is really the only place that it gets this bad. i don't mind the drinking and anything else for that matter (beach balls for example) as long as it doesn't ruin someone else's experience.

yeah I totally agree, the facilities there can't handle the masses of people going to the bathroom either, it's disgusting.

And I'm surprised DMB isn't cool in the 'Cuse...it was cool in Cortland when I went there.

we were actually going to stay at the holiday inn, but the days inn was a little cheaper, although its only like $10, the exchange kills me when i go to the states. Party in Batavia!!!!

OUCH! I stayed there last year. Got stuck in the lot of DL for 3 hours, and got back to the hotel at 2am. By the time I got to sleep it was about 3am. Unfortunately, my room overlooked the indoor pool. 7am=SCREAMING children in the pool.

If you get a "pool view" room, do everything in your power to get out of there!

Darien Lake is essentially in the middle of a farmers field. there's nothing really around it...you could look in Darien or Corfu for hotels, but your best bet would be to look in Batavia and make the short drive.

i really haven't thought about this show at all. the other two venues toronto and SPAC are all thats been on my mind. this is a good ending to MY DMB tour. for toronto i have a ton of friends going, for SPAC it's SPAC and i'm making a big roadie for it so this is kinda on the back burner.

I've got SPAC, Darien, then Hartford. Quick but intense tour for me. Its funny because originally it was just Darien with a buddy of mine. Then the festival, but that got cancelled and spac was announced, so I figured have to go there. Then a friend said he had two sixth row tix to Hartford, can't turn that down.

yeah it started out Darien as the obvious, then Alpine was going to be our "summer vacation" beacuse we're going out for 5 days and doing other stuff, then the festival crap happened, and now SPAC, so I'm content with 5 shows for the summer, but I'm cutting back every year it seems...and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that yet. I did Hartford last year, man I will NEVER go back again.

Last year I took back roads through the Alabama swamp and popped out onto 77 not too far from the park. The traffic wasn't that bad, but we arrived a lot later than we usually have in the past.

My suggestion: take the normal routes and relax and enjoy hanging out with some tunes in the car until you get into the park.

depends who you send it by, and what method. 2day will run you like $15+ (from canada) otherwise from music today I'd say like $5-7 depending for 3-4 days

you can see aight from the lawn...but the crowd at Darien isn't good at all IMO. everything from being way too drunk, passed out during the whole show, non-stop two step chanting, puking everywhere....the list goes on.
but i've got lawns again this year and decided not to upgrade.

I've never had a problem at Darien, brought cameras in etc...I didn't even get patted down the last time. just make sure if your 21+ (or have an ID saying so for you youngins) you get your drinking bracelet outside. it's easier that way.

i live in buffalo, so darien isn't that far of a drive - about 20/30 mins or so. but ever since DMB started doing "the pavilion thing" a couple years ago, we had to leave HSBC Arena and The Ralph behind for fucking Darien Lake.

now, i've been there enough to be sick of it now. the only thing i like about the place is the Superman and Dippin' Dots, but that's not nearly worth paying the admission for it. the whole place is a rip-off, as far as i'm concerned. my real beef is with the venue though. the sound sucks in some spots for some reason, parking/getting the hell out of there is a nightmare, concessions are WAY over-priced...

but i'm done bitching about it. not everyone can have SPAC (which i'm finally going to this year:-)

i dont know if this has been mentioned yet......... but the parking lot is a huggggggge jam after the show... if you're trying to get out quick, and don't mind not being in the CENTER of the tailgating, park next to the mind eraser (red and seafoam green coaster), which is also near the park entrance. You will see a little pond, picnic tables, and huts on your left in the lot as you're driving deeper into the lot. Take a left right after this and park. By parking closer to the park entrance, you save yourself a LOT of time.

That's exactly what you should do. In '02 I was in the far back corner of the "field" lot and didn't get out until 2am.

Last year, I just pulled in the main (paved) amusement park lot and found the closest space to the exit. Got out in MINUTES and was home in Toronto by 2am :)

You may have to pay, but it's definitely worth it!

I plan on getting there relatively early...I have a preconstruction meeting for my house at 8:30, and that's 3 hours, so we should be heading to Darien around noon....


as for the parking: it's only $7 to park for the park, but after like 3pm I dont even think they charge anymore, because who the hell would go to a theme park at 3pm on a concert day if your not going to the concert? I kinda want to park in the tailgating "section" and double up on beer and food, but I have to work at 8:30am the next morning, so that may mean otherwise. Either way the lots are going to be a good scene no matter where you park.

Thankscheck out Batavia, it's not that far, and there's some decent hotels there. Also they have hotels and campgrounds by and at Darien Lake.

Scotty, I am staying in Batavia...I think its only like a 20 min drive from Darien (I guess thats when you get out of the parking lot..which I'm told is about 3 hours) Me and my friend Jeff are staying at the Days Inn, I dont think its that expensive. You can book it online like we did, and I dont think they asked your age...check it out.
