Well they just started...dmband road page puts up the songs shortly after they've begun playing.
And typically the WH setlist is 1 song ahead...so when DMB started playing Ants, they put up "Encore".

Because intros are part of the song that follows it (and thus would not be a seperate track or anything on a cd), but teases are sepereat songs entirely.

Fair enough, but what song is tease? It's not, if it isn't actually a song then why should it count? It could be a tease of one of a hundred songs. Sorry to be confrontational about the subject but it just doesn't make a ton of sense. I'll drop it after this, I just wanted to get some thoughts out on it.

Maybe not. There were some "teases" at Mansfield too. The setlist guy has no idea what he's doing.
I'm more curious if this interlude was Heartbeat as well.

I just got back in Ithaca...
Got out of the parking lot @ Darien pretty fast (15 min).
I have to say after going to the majority of my shows @ Post Gazette (Starlake) Amp I was pleasantly surprised that the venue was not a complete disaster like some had made it out to be.
This being the only show of the tour that I am attending, I really enjoyed it. The improv jam / heartbeat thing was especially interesting, since I had no idea what the hell it was, but it great fun to watch and listen.
Highlights:
DDTW (even though its about the 3rd time I've seen it open)
Don't Burn the Pig - great energy
Crush - the jam at the end, which I don't think I have heard live before
STJL - never heard it before live :-)
Hello Again - incredible jams at the end
Space Between - Surprisingly powerful, showed off Dave's voice, good ED choice (people can disagree but I was surprised)
Joy Ride - the crowd was really into this one, the fireworks only helped!
Lots of Leroi solos tonight... it was great to see that he's getting a chance to work out his chops.
Also, the crowd was pretty good as well. Some people made it sound like the place would be full of hooligans on the board, and even a fellow WH member in front of me warned me about people standing up on their chairs during the show. Noone really stood up on their chairs at least in my line of sight. Honestly, the crowd was pretty respectful, and not horribly annoying... everyone was respectful of most of the slower / less familiar stuff, and I could really focus on what the band was doing. I've definetely seen worse at Starlake :-)
OK, I have class tomorrow @ noon and I'm probably incoherent. Can't wait to download the show, and until next summer when I will probably be in Boston...

all and all a great show. got to hear the 5 new songs on top of the song that jane likes and pig. the only negative to this show was the one song encore. but i figured once i heard tripping billies as the closer that would be it.
also as a side note last year at this time i was still in the parking lot unmoved more than 3 feet. but this year i wisend up and sucked up paying the 5$ parking to get out at a reasonable hour. i live a straight drive 1 and a half hours away from darian lake. and tonight i got home before 1AM and that included t-shirt shoping. so the 5$ or divided 3 ways was money welll spent.

Intro (sounded real cool, i've never heard it before)
Don’t Drink the Water - took the crowd to such a high energy level right off the bat, i never get sick of hearing it.
Don’t Burn The Pig - woohoo! real crowd pleaser
One Sweet World - again, crowd enjoyed it, got everyone groovin
Intro - dave solo
New Song #3 - picked the energy right back up, short solo by carter, i sitll think it should go into say goodbye.
Bass Intro - saw it comming
Crush - best. crush. ive. seen. ever
Song That Jane Likes - crowd pleaser, kept the energy flowing
New Song #4 - bomb! god i hate this song. thank god for roi's solo
Too Much - i dont care what people say. this song simply dominates. there was too much energy for this song tonight. i could have lost eardrums from the energy, sweet jesus! so awesome
Recently - pretty girl outro, rockin
Interlude - didn't catch it... :lol
Rhyme & Reason - i like it, some dont. crowd enjoyed it at least in my section.
Hmm ? [New] - sitter down song for my section, better for me. nice rendition
The Space Between - we got 1 electric song in 3 shows. im glad it was this one. everyone enjoyed it, and so did i. shots of the feris wheel at the end
New Song #1 - eh, it was ok, crowd wasn't really feeling it
Warehouse - wooooooooooo! everyone was jumpin for this one. even security was dancing with the crowd
What Would You Say - keep it flowing...wow! everyone got into it, amazing energy.
[Tease] - this sounded like a non dmb song, very familiar. it was dave solo for 30 seconds or so...the song was on the tip of my tounge
New Song #2 - before joy ride people had the ants snare into "clap" going, except on the back of our chairs. they stop for a minute, talk, carter smilies and recognizes what we are doing. then they go into joyride and tear the roof off. joyride ends on a snare drum outro.
Ants Marching - can you say holy shit? crowd wanted this all night, the place errupted and continued through the encore break
Tripping Billies - there was a cry freedom tease by fonzi before this band came back on at 10:35, ended at 10:43ish. decent version, liked spac's better good ending though. i couldnt have tolerated stay or rapunzel, glad it was one song and billies. should have been cry freedom and billies though :)
also to RYAN, did yo uget the pick dave threw out? or the second one he handed down?

The 7/10 Interlude doesn't sound very much like Heartbeat to me
Yeah, that's because it wasn't Heartbeat. BustedJeff just keeps going around to every thread saying it was. BustedJeff, they called it Interlude because that's what it is, a new tune that was like an interlude for Dave going to the bathroom. It's more of an intro to Crazy-Easy than anything else.

i thought it sounded like heartbeat when it first started up. it def wasnt, but it still had that feel in the beginning, then it vastly changed. I hardly think it is an intro to crazy easy though. it seemed very off on its own.
so did the darien have the same interlude dilly?

To make a long story short, after accidently blowing my friend off at SPAC nite 1, Fenton saw my friend again last night at Darien after the show and called him over to the soundboard. Sorry to anyone who tried to reach us through my cell phone. I left it in Canada which is not like me at all. Very sorry.
We looked at the line next to us as we were coming into the park and there was Matt!, which was sooo funny! We hooked up despite the fact he had already called my phone when he was leaving South Buffalo. What are the chances?
Started off the day with Superman! Wow that will wake you up in a hurry!

Yes the park was terrific - rode all the rides except the boomarang thingy as we have one at Canada's Wonderland. Superman was definitely a great way to start the day. I am terrified of heights so the initial climb always makes me swear I'll never get on another ever, but then I get off and look for the next one!
Great time indeed.
Next year we'll all be more organised for Darien and SPAC!

haha you should just be glad it didn't break or someone didn't die while you were on it :lol
I remember the first time I rode it, when it first opened, my friends dad got us VIP passes somehow, so we went the first day, and as we're climbing up the hill the train STOPS like 15 feet from the top, and sat there for a good 10 minutes. Oh my God I nearly pissed myself it was so scary sitting up there almost 200 feet high not knowing what was going on.
I'm thinking of making a trip up to Toronto on the new fast ferry sometime and catch a Yankees game, and go to Canada's Wonderland (I havne't been there since I was a kid), it's just a matter of finding a free weekend :lol

The Sean
07-14-2004, 01:58 PM
ok, my review
i was 14th row, dead center. pretty sweet seats. Darien is a good venue if youre close enough
Galactic was alright. i liked it more when they just jammed and the singer wasnt out there. The Zeppelin cover of Whole Lotta Love was nice. (i also liked how the music before the opener and before DMB was the Beatles and Zeppelin)
DMB took 45 minutes after Galactic finished to get on stage. thats like a whole 'nother set in length. oh well
Intro - i totally called this. these were the exact same notes he played at Central Park when DDTW opened.
DDTW - and i was right. excellent song. second time i heard it open but its still good
Pig - awesome, i dont feel so bad about missing SPAC1 anymore. im really glad i got to hear this song. one of my favorites
One Sweet World - i miss the intro, but its still a good song
Intro > Hello Again - great, not quite as good as SPAC2 though. i called this song as well
Bass Intro > Crush - this made the two girls next to me happy  . i thoroughly enjoy this song as well.
STJL - saweet. im glad i finally got to hear this song live
Sugar Will - i do enjoy this song, but as far as the crowd is concerned, its too long, slow and repetative.
Too Much - excellent, great high energy song. everyone was going crazy
Recently - they soundchecked this, and i'm overjoyed that i got to hear the classic version of it. such a good song :thumbsup
Interlude - i dont remember it well
Rhyme and Reason - i think i lost my voice during this :)
Thing - my favorite of the new songs, but its a little too slow now, and he doesnt really say "its a good, good night tonight" in the way he did the first few times it was played. i wish they'd go back to that version.
The Space Between - good Everyday selection.
Crazy-Easy - this is when i finally told the girl next to me that DMB was playing new songs and that this was one of them. they were looking upset at not hearing many songs they know. what a shame.
Warehouse - WOO! i love this song, im glad i got to hear it again. i was screaming the words as loud as i could. the fireworks were a nice touch
What Would You Say - yeah, nice. good concert song. i still think the album version with John Popper is the best
[tease] - i dont remember this too well, but i knew they were going to play Joy Ride next
Joy Ride - everybody loved this song, extremely high energy. if Thing turns into a slow song this will be my number 1. the girls next to me actually stood for this song
Ants Marching - i really think that this was unplanned, (or maybe it was supposed to be during the encore) and Carter reacted to the crowd. here's my reasons: the stage totally went black; dave was taking off his guitar when the snare intro started, leroi was taking off his sax, and they were all looking at Carter like "wtf^^ mate", then Carter starts directing them to get going and play the song. it was pretty sweet. i think the crowd loved this the most. i finally got to see it live :D .
encore - so those girls sat during Pig, OSW, and all the new songs, but they stood during the whole encore break. :ugh: i dont get it. whatever.
Tripping Billies - this song is so awesome live and this was no exception. during it i was thinking, "what could possibly come after this?". unfortunately, nothing did. oh well. still a helluva show.
surprisingly Everyday and WAYG werent played. thats a first for me. i dont mind.
oh, and Ryan didnt get any picks or sticks.

Just a thought.
I enjoyed the show, it was fun meeting new people!
ANd thank God, I didn't get stuck in that mess after the show!

nope...but i did witness what was probably one of the funniest things ive ever seen...these guys next to us in the lot had a tank of nitrous and they were sellin it and shit..so after a while i look over and theres 2 cops with a dog...which it looks like they're gonna bust em...after about 15 minutes...the guys finally open their trunk and the cops make them empty the tank....so the tank is laying on the ground face up with nitrous shooting out of it....then all the guys kinda like jump on top of it and tried taking as much of it in as they could while the cops just stood there laughing at them....they did that until the whole tank was empty...when it was empty, the cops were laughing hysterically and said "thanks" and walked away...i have pictures that i have to scan of this...good stuff :lol

ok, so I was front row for this one, the people next to us were WH upgrades. However, they had a giant camera in front of them (partially blocked us too), and couldn't even see Dave. We took a couple steps to the left and were fine (no Roi though), but security kept hassling them about being in the aisle. Leave it to Darien Lake to give people problems seeing from the front row. Overall my seats 5th row seats to Blue Cross were better, simply because you can't see half the stage at Darien from the front row because it's so high. Anyway, the show...
I was very sick throughout the whole thing (I have the beginnings of whats starting to look like pneumonia), at least security asked me if I was ok a couple times.
Intro - obviously going into DDTW
Don’t Drink the Water - good version, Dave's wailing gets the crowd going.
Don’t Burn The Pig - surprised to see this, love the song, however, have to say, until the last verse, it bored me a bit.
One Sweet World - seen it a few times, nothing special
Intro - why does the Road Page list everytime Dave noodles a guitar
New Song #3 - Hello Again, good, not as good as SPAC2
Bass Intro - about 15 seconds long, Fonzi can't solo for shit
Crush - best version of Crush I've ever heard. If I wasn't fighting back vomit, could have been a highlight.
Song That Jane Likes - I've never seen this one before, it was nice.
New Song #4 - Gave me a chance to sit down without looking like jackass. This did freak me out though...for a good 15 seconds during this song, Dave absolutely just STARED at me..not sure why (I was standing at this point), if he was trying to gage a reaction or just needed somewhere to put his eyes, but man, it's an odd feeling.
Too Much - good version, but I have seen it 6452 times.
Recently - New "old" jam..I like it better.
Interlude - new song?
Rhyme & Reason - plain version.
Hmm ? [New] - really enjoyed this alot. Needs to be shortened a little, and get a little more definition, but it has a lot of potential. Lyrics about an old friend calling Dave and saying goodbye because he was dying.
The Space Between - it wasn't IDI. I'll take it.
New Song #1 - Ok, needs to be condensed.
Warehouse - Great version, really wish they'd expand the salsa jam a little.
What Would You Say - yeah....I thought I was dying at this point, so I took a short break
[Tease]
New Song #2 - good stuff, right length, good chorus...needs verses
Ants Marching - awesome, awesome, best way to close a show.
__________________
Tripping Billies - if you're going to get a 1 song encore, you want it to be two step or billies. I'll take it and not complain.
Overall, a good show, probably in the middle of the pack as far as my shows go. Of course the seats make everything better, and the illness makes everything worse, so who really knows.

Yet again, great show..... love the news songs, crowd.... SUCKED.
I've got to agree...although I've never had the bad luck to get stuck with lawn seats (the very reason my sister-in-law will NEVER go see DMB at Darien ever again), I just get aggravated with the fact that much of the crowd (that I end up near, anyway) is a bunch of drunk, obnoxious idiots. I had a guy smacking me in the back repeatedly last night because he couldn't manage to stand up straight while trying to talk to one of his fellow idiots down the row.
I think one of the problems is that by selling alcohol inside the venue, it lets drunk idiots *STAY* drunk idiots. Mind you, I drank prior to the show, and a good amount at that, but once inside, I was perfectly content to be sober and enjoy the show.
Sadly, DL is probably the worst venue I've ever been to, in terms of both sound quality and crowds. In the future, if I can avoid it and instead go to SPAC or TO, I will.

The backs of my calves are SOOOOO BRUISED too! My right one has 7 bright red and green and purple bruises on it and my left one has 4....it hurts to walk! But it was sooooo worth it..
We just got back today. We decided that we couldn't face the 3 hour drive home after the 2 hour wait in the parking lot. We hooked up with some guys, drank and listened to a kid play his guitar and sing....he was awesome!
I was in section 406 and most of the time when older songs, slower songs or the new ones were played, EVERYONE sat down or left.....MORONS! We had a great time dancing up a storm....it was so DARN hot though!
Hope y'all had a good time....

Definitely agree. We were near the front of 201 and had 6 people with All Access passes sitting next to us. They sat for most of the show, didn't know a single song, and left early. Painful to witness. The girls in front of us continuously snuck their friends (tall friends) from the lawns into their row, so I spent half the night trying to get security's attention to move each new group out, just so I could have a decent view of the stage. :BANG
On another note, the bathrooms weren't flooded!!! :bounce

Face it, Darien is a pretty bad venue ALL AROUND. Mixing alcohol or whatever substance is your fancy and underagers or even unresponsible people together will NEVER work. There's just a new generation of KIDS growing up with dmb now and the older generations of dmb fans can see it. Like it or not get used to what's happening because it's only gonna get worse. Its a pretty sad thing but sooner or later, DMB is going to get the same reputation as a popular band in the late 90's got, but hey clear channel will do ANYTHING for a buck, right? I mean do what you want to do but, common respect for others is definately something alot of people need to learn. I guess my point is.... the days of going to a show and enjoying YOURSELF are gone, way gone.

Next year we'll all be more organised for Darien and SPAC!
we won't talk about what happened with Matt on superman!!!! ;)
I'm thinking of making a trip up to Toronto on the new fast ferry sometime and catch a Yankees game, and go to Canada's Wonderland (I havne't been there since I was a kid), it's just a matter of finding a free weekend :lol
Canada's Wonderland is great. i love it there. i used to live about 3.5 hours away and had a seasons pass every year!
also...for the most part the venue and the night was a great one. here were my issues:
1. sound was way too low. there were many parts of the show where i couldn't even hear dave's voice.
2. drunkeness was at a low...but i had one girl in front of me that jumped the railing and tried to beat up a 300+ lbs security guard! this girl would be lucky if she was 110 lbs!
3. people were chuckin water bottles all night! uncool.
4. some guy who had a midget girlfriend and found that it was his place to push everyone outta the way so she could be at the front of the lawn. well i'm sorry, but if you weren't there first...too bad. he was throwing people outta the way to get up there. well i finally put a stop to that. the guys was like 6'3 so even though his girl could now see, nobody behind him could see. then the guy proceeded to talk about how he was screwed on tickets and that he SHOULD be in the front (i guess that gives him the right to push everyone outta the way) and talk about how he knows some guy who "plays" in the NFL, even tho this guy was just drafted this year! that doesn't mean you're singed or playing dude!!!
anyways...all in all the darien crowd and concert was the best i've ever seen it! good times!

Dont care what anyone says this show was awesome!!
Hightlights:
Dont Drink the water: sick opener, the boys were really into it
Pig- The crowd screamed up a storm when they played this.
Hello Again- Easy to tell that Dave loves this song
Crush- Nice bass opener, Nice long jam at the end
Warehouse- Stefan had everyone on thier feet with the hooos
Ants- Dave must have broke a string on the guitar but he kepts
singing the lyrics until a guy from side stage brang him a new one.
Tripping Billies- Best encore song there is. IMO
Downers:
The new songs> everyone got up and left during the new songs. Pretty depressing.
I was hoping for: Lie in our graves, #41, The Stone

I may be wrong, but I coulda sworn it was during Joy Ride. Either way, he definitely broke a string. They showed his guitar with the string hanging on the big screen.

The Space Between - it wasn't IDI. I'll take it.
Pleasantly surprised at how good this song was.
One Sweet World - seen it a few times, nothing special
Nothing special unless you like to dance at a DMB show, then it's got perfect rhythm.
Too Much - good version, but I have seen it 6452 times.
Wow! That's 5931 more times than it has been played by the band.

Some random thoughts...
DDTW - Central Park intro...you knew it was coming. With so much energy in this song, you can't ask for a better opener. Carter was a little reserved, but it was still a great way to open.
Pig - Energy stays high. Carter is again reserved, but Roi steps in to help him out. After this song (except for a few subtle reservations), you wouldn't have known that Carter's wrist was injured.
OSW - The intro was much better than it was at SPAC. The scat outro was good.
Hello Again - They keep rocking this song. I wish they'd bring its fragments together more, but you can't deny the energy it has. The Carter drum solo is defintely different...he intentionally remains reserved, making for an interesting interlude.
Crush - Veeerryy jazzy. Nice Stefan intro and nice Boyd jam. Carter did not hold back with the end jam.
Sugar Will - I've seen 3 shows this tour, and this song kills the crowd every time. They've got to shorten it up until it matures more. The only "disappointment" (you knew it was coming) of the night.
Too Much - I can't stand this song because I've heard it so much, but it was definitely one of the highlights of the night. During the soundcheck, they tried the extended/scat jam for it, and Dave was singing the lyrics to Loveshack (pretty funny). Anyway, this song rocked, and everyone was into it.
Recently - Nice performance considering Carter's injury...short bluegrass outro with Pretty Girl.
Rhyme - Rocked as usual, especially the final chorus. Dave seemed to be really feeling Hmm...he was ranging the vocals quite a bit.
Space - Good song...if we're getting an Everyday one, I'm glad its this...Dave had a lyric sheet on stage and still messed up the lyrics.
Crazy-Easy - Rocked...I think they added a mini-Roi jam in the middle (I don't remember it at SPAC), and Dave really put force into the vocals throughout the chorus and the end (fireworks begin here).
Warehouse - Salsa jam...very nice.
WWYS - Like Too Much, it had an extended jam...something that made this show great was that it was clear that Dave knew which songs would rock either way (i.e. Rhyme), but for the ones that are often described as "standard" (WWYS, Too Much), it was clear that they put forth extra effort.
Joy Ride - Again, very passionate on the vocals...Dave was really feeling the new songs tonight.
Ants: During the snare intro, Dave was pointing to Carter on each hit...great moment. Dave broke a string in the middle, and Monk ran out to replace the guitar which he did as Dave kept singing...awesome sight. By the time the fireworks were in full swing at the end of this song, I felt like I did at my first few shows - completely blown away. Incredible end to an incredible set.
Billies - Jammed out as is to be expected...in my opnion, you can't complain about an encore that is rocked out like that even if its one song, especially after a show like that. Dave broke another string.
Other Notes:
Carter's bandage was shot to hell by the end of the night. I remember several people from previous shows mentioning that when he first had the bandage, they didn't shoot him much with the cameras. Well, he was by far the most covered tonight by the cameramen, and there was no sign of pain. He seemed to step it up as night went on, and Roi seemed to step in for him too throughout the night (Roi had a good night). I've seen 18 shows, and this one definitely ranks in the top 2.
