I'm not planning on this one anymore. Even though it's only 1/2 hour away, I just can't abide by that shitty, poorly-run, ill-equipped place.
I say that now. I'll probably get suckered into going anyway.

yeah i really don't want to go either, not only for the same reasons as you said, but the shows there haven't impressed me. nor have the crowds :( i may end up going to hartford or tweeter

Last year really sealed the deal for me.
1. Bathrooms were totally unacceptable. Just fucking gross... I'm there to take a piss not stand in it.
2. Lawn crowd was awful. I've told the lawnchair throwing incident here more than once. Perhaps not allowing people to tailgate for 9 hours prior to the show would help that area. I'm all for tailgating, but no one needs to hit the sauce for nine freaking hours before a show. And they do.
3. Shitty beer selection. I want a frothy brew to cool off and enjoy. Not a $6 luke-warm Budweiser.
4. Lawn sound. The lawn is just not designed for good sound flow. It goes right over your head.
Why don't they play at the dome in 'Cuse? I'd go there.

the acoustics at the dome are really shitty man. they'd have to spend a lot of money to design a good sound system to implement in the dome. what SU needs to do (like Notre Dame) is build a PAC, I think ND's hold around 6,000 people maybe 9,000 maximum

yea, the acoustics in the dome suck and traffic would still be bad. That build is so old in comparison to most arenas and stadiums these days, it was built like 20 years ago

Serious? YNK, Kit Kat, Last Stop and Dreaming Tree alone made it a good set. At least I thought so.

what made it not a good set was the crowd, my friend was in the 200s (i think its very close to the stage) and saidt it was shitty.
fingers crossed though

then it's not the set that was shitty, it was the venue itself, right? by set, i'm thinking of the list of songs, not the stage. I thought the set kicked ass (rarest show on my list, btw), but the crowd did suck. I was in the 400s, and the crowd wasn't great.

right in the middle of Lover Lay Down, some girl in front of me collapsed, not sure if it was from drugs, alcohol, or something else, but they called in the paramedics, and the entire song consisted of me trying to listen to the song while some EMT stood in front of me shouting at the girl over the music. That was the worst part of last year for me.

Darien is THE WORST VENUE I've ever attended in 30+ DMB shows. The parking alone is enough to never ever ever go there again. Anybody remember last year and how they didn't open the grass lot until like 3:00PM b/c they're a bunch of idiots? We brought everything to tailgate with including a grill and had to move off the pavement as soon as the lawn opened - we sat around for like 4 hours being HUNGRY and SOBER. DARIEN BLOWS. I'm so unhappy that they're playing there and not SPAC. Even though Darien is the closest venue to me it is an abomination. The sound sucks and the ampitheater itself is porrly designed - and don't even get me started about the toilets. . . DMB needs to find another WNY venue.
PS - SPAC is in my top three places to see DMB and it's a crime they're not playing there this year - I can't remember the last summer tour that they didn't play there.
Just wanted to share my frustration.
Thanks

The reassembled Dave Matthews Band launches the outing in mid June, and is slated to hit amphitheaters throughout the U.S. and Canada until early September. More dates will be added, according to RCA Records, and ticket on-sale information hasn't been announced.
hmm, sounds odd to me, but hasn't ticket on-sale info already been released?
therefore, wouldn't all the dates be added? or...are they relasing more dates after on sale info in conjunction with the already scheduled dates?

dobyblue: you have a ride if i'm around. and we've gotta get together for beers sometime soon. i'm gone this weekend tho!
as for another venue in WNY area, what about HSBC? i've never seen a show there, but it's a new arena, can't be that bad is it? DL is outside which is a bonus, but with all the shit (parking, drunks, losers!) from last year would HSBC be that bad of an idea. so easy to get in and out of HSBC compared to DL as well.
also, for people who don't wanna go to DL, got to the toronto show. it's an outdoor venue, sweet set-up, great sound, downtown toronto...and only two hours from darien lake of highway driving.

holy shit i forgot about ralph wilson!!!! that would be classic, again! 70,000+ people in there! bills can't afford to have their field tampered with tho...thats all they have left.
did anyone go to that RW show or any show in RW for that matter? how is it there?
Toronto last year was the best concert i have ever seen in my life and maybe the best i will ever see. went to downtown Toronto early in the day after getting back from Montreal the night before, drank all afternoon (but i am Canadian and can hold my beer, unlike MOST at Darien last year, and this is not a shot at Americans), walked to the ampa. and DMB played an amazing show. can only hope for a show half as good as last years.

Canada's security is def. lax compared to you guys. but during high threat times in the US Canada's security does get upped as well. i've had more trouble getting back into Canada recently then getting into the states. i was searched last year at the Toronto show and i said to the girl "do i look that threatenin?" and the girl doing it said "we only frisk the hot guys"! made me feel a bit better!

RW in 2001 was good, but that won't happen again.
Shit, they re-routed the Boss to Darien Lake this past year.
HSBC is not the best places for concerts, though. People like to tailgate and that isn't going to happen there. And it really depends on the PA that they bring in. I saw the Eagles last year and sat at the far end of the lower bowl and that was very good.
Last time I saw DMB there was in 99 and it was kind of muddy at points. Floor I hear was fine.

Can you divulge what they have said about it? Are there open talks with the band currently? Is there a major reason why it wasn't booked yet?
I went to Darien Lake last year and it was a great time, but it is kind of a shitty venue. And I don't even think I could make it there this year. My best bets look like Hartford and Hershey. But the seltlist from Darien last year was awesome, with the exception of the disappointing encore. One of the best Dreaming Trees I have ever heard.

I know this is in Sean's FAQ about Darien Lake, but it's worth repeating:
If you go to the park before the show, you can park near the entrance of the parking lot. You can't really tailgate as well up there, but you'll be on your way home in no time at all. After the show last year I was back in Amherst in 30 minutes from the last song.
It's well worth the extra $10 or whatever I paid last year to do it.

funny thing is, last year i got out of the lot in 11 minutes. (after hanging around for an hour) skipped so many people. it was cool.
i also got there with minimal traffic by getting off the thruway at exit 48, not 48A. we almost got lost in the backroads but we made it, snuck past another line of traffic there too.

The only good thing about Darien Lake is the park. The venue, the parking, the walk and the lines to get into the venue is the armpit of NY! Last year the band didn't seem like they enjoyed playing there. It is such a terrible place, they should have gone to SPAC!!

Yes, it does.
Regular admission to the park is a lot more expensive. (Like $25 per person or something.)
Last year I drove up around 4:30 pm and went right into the park lot, not the concert lot. Paid $20 or so for two park passes and got something to eat before the show.

for me, i thought THE VENUE was a good one. not amazing, but good. you have the park which is a ton of fun and it's a nice outdoor venue IMO. last year i spent the full day in the park and then got to go to the concert, so it was kinda like two days in one if you know what i mean. i suggest a full day in the park for anyone, if they're not going to be too run down. you can drink in the park too, bonus! the reason why i am not a big fan of DMB being in darien lake was the people from last year. i don't expect people to be angels at concerts or even civil, but it was brutal. if you check out some of the posts from the 2003 thead i'm sure you'll see what i'm talking about. parking is BRUTAL there too. they jam waaaaaaaaay too many people in a lot with one basic exit. it's just terrible.
as for coming from canada. it's not far at all, and pretty easy to get to. it takes less than an hour to get from the border to the park.

I've been there a million times so I wasn't in there for the rides and stuff. Got a beer or two and something to eat just to kill some time.
It's during the week so lines aren't as long for things as they are on the weekend. I suggest hitting Superman, the Viper, and the Mind Eraser. If you got there around 4-4:30 you should have enough time to hit up some rides and get some grub/beverage.

I don't know where else your planning on going, but PG Pavillion is way better than Darien Lake. If you haven't been there, go.
DL is not a great venue, but if you like tailgating and shit it doesn't get any better as you can get into the lot around 9-9:30 even though the park doesn't officially open until 10.

how do you plan on going down?well, my best friend has grandparents in brooklyn, and he goes down there every summer. he said this year his rents would let him take his car down there, (now that he has one). maybe i could talk him into going to the festival when he's there. i surprised him by taking him to darien last year, and he's love to see more live dmb. but then again, it might not work. :\

the one and only with seats!!! kidding, but you're lucky, there couldn't have been all that many tickets available in the theatre.
okay, once again ticketmaster F'd me. i was lucky that my room mate was up and could use his computer. for the rochester show i had some floor seats and everything and it says the "type in this word" thing. when i would type in the word it wouldn't work and it would say there was an Error. well i have since gotten a new computer and when i went to type in the word it f'd up again!!!! i couldn't believe it. i'm not a dumbass that can't read the word or something, it just wouldn't work again. i'm going to talk with TM about this b/c man that sucks when you have sweet ass tickets and the "type in a word" thing messes up!

If I remember correctly, the 100s are about 17 rows deep. Then there is an pathway and a couple VIP "boxes" before the 200s. But still, you're closer to a row 20 mark than row 30.
As well, my ticket stub from last year says I was sec 200, row 3, seat 17. And I was on the aisle. So I'm guessing you are aisle too.
