damnit, you're right. he just didn't do the really cool strumming (dunno how to describe it) for too long. he changed it up a little.

Most people stop whooing after the intro, which is fine, but a few insist on doing it all through the verse, which gets annoying, but you can't really stop it so I just dance and sing.

the crowd by me was horrible. i had a good time, dont get me wrong, but if the crowd had been into it it would have been that much better.

i really dont know why people go to concerts to talk to their friends. talk after the show while waiting in the lot to get out. And if you do talk talk about something other then how you want to rape dave matthews. (believe it or not, that was the intelligent conversation going on behind me)

also, it was pretty funny seeing a drunk girl in front of me squat down to pee on the lawn, only to slip and fall face first into it about five minutes later

The crowd by me was really awesome for both nights! The first night everyone was pretty calm and two guys in front of me sat almost the entire time, which was good because I was able to see more. The second night the people by us were a little more into it, and we met some really cool guys behind us. Even though they were from St. Louis, and hard core Cardinals fans, and kept on making fun of the cubs :( They were impressed with my knowledge of the sport though!!!!!!!

I am really tired today. Didn't get home till 2...went to bed around 3, and then woke up at 730. I think its time for a nap. :)

Too many people around us (section 201) just sat down during the new songs too. My fiancee and I were about the only ones that knew the songs. When we first heard them at Chicago we never would have sat down, just listened and got into them best we could.
It's kind of annoying, but we did have a completely unobstructed (no heads) view of the stage and everything in front of us during those songs.
A couple people were sitting for about 1/2 the songs!!! :banned

:ugh: don't tell me Alpine crowds suck, I can't belive that, I always thought Alpine was one of those venues like SPAC or Gorge, where hardcore fans would make the trip from far away just to be there. Both of the shows I've been to, I looked around occasionaly, once every song, I don't remember people sitting down, and noone sat down for the new songs, people just stood and listened, and this was only 13 days after they were premiered, not more than 50 days. :freak :freak :twak

Alright I'm curious as to who had the craziest stories of the weekend...

I'd have to say mine for night one was getting an upgrade to 7th row directly infront of dave....that in itself could make a grown man cry!! (btw thats the closed I've ever been and to see almost ALL the people down there not even CLOSE to being into the show is sick.....just b/c they got $$ does not make it right for them to sit down there, sorry for the vent)

For the second night would have to be having ALL 17 of my friends come up and tailgate together, drink plenty of booze and have my good buddy pass out right next to me on the lawn! wow -- quite interesting. He was a bit confused when he woke up right before Crash and everyone in my section of the lawn was cheering for him cause they thought he was dead! always a good good time @ alpine

Awesome shows! Just got back about 30 minutes ago. I thought the first night was much better and I was on the lawn partying with a bunch of people I just met (SUPERFREAK! WOW!) 2nd night was great in the 11th row, but it was WAY TOO far to the side. Seat 50 in row H. I'd rather have row ZZ in 202. Anyways, great 2 night stand.

Yeah. Let's just say I spent the entire evening looking for Melissa and had to deal with the asses in the lawn during the numerous near-riots that security had to break up. Then some J/A decides to smack my driver's side mirror while I drove past him on the way out which caused me to nearly beat the shit out of him b/c I was so pissed by this point. Finally, the 15-year-old parking attendants can't do their jobs b/c the Premier exit down to the green lot was "closed" according to this girl and I would have to wait with everyone else to get out the normal way. I didn't think so and drove around the garbage cans and got out of there. But, I did stop and enjoy the high points of the show while I was looking for my lost wife. :twak :D

It took me 2 hours to get out on night 1 and took me 15 minutes on night 2. I parked in the yellow lot both times. I was in the second row of cars closest to the venue in the yellow lot on the second night and got out quickly, but the first night I was in the middle of the yellow lot and it was madness!!! Welllllllll wellllll wellllll, N1 was a great night for me!!! One of the Gaurds took my digital camera and dumped it into the garbage can from my fiances purse before i could any thing didnt even let me take it back. So yeah i had some words!!! other then that Damn great show. Premiere parking was great except i was stupid trying to get out of the parking lot untill someone told me to turn around and go through green parking lot exit then it was great. Stopped off at taco bell in Richmond and well Im assuming so did 50 others too from the show. Not that i was Craving Munchies at all!!! I have been reading these Posts and realized i might have maybe seen some of you all. All i could remember is i wish i was in the black hummer that seemed to get out alot faster then me. OHHH I also want to comment on the women or girls who feel the need to dress like they are hot stuff, IF YOU CAN PINCH AN INCH of fat it shouldnt be showing i dont care how EASY YOU ARE, i mean serioulsy get a clue and it wasnt that warm on N1 so please you didnt impress anyone TRAMPS!!!

Night 1.

After a mad dash down the lawn, I got nuts when i realized the band was watching everyone sprint like mad down there. That was cool. Later he talked about a guy that took a digger. Dave kept stressing to everyone to go register to vote. He said "the most important thing is that you vote. You dont have to listen to me... Register and vote for whoever you want... You know who I want, but the most important thing is that you vote."

Hello Again - Awesome suprise to open. First time as an opener so no one really predicted it, and Dave just took this to town. Tons of energy to start off.

Granny - This song is so good to hear early in a set. So much energy and the crowd was loving it.

#41 - The break after Granny was filled by me, my buddy matt, and this guy next to us all predicting #41 was coming next. We just felt like they were gonna play it right then and there, and they did. Absolutly perfect version. No everyday outro, but they didnt need it, the song was so perfect.

The Stone - Pure energy again and by now the crowd is completley off the hook.

Crazy Easy - I like the song alot more after hearing it in concert and the crowd liked this one.

So Much to Say - Awesome, awesome, awesome

Superfreak - :D :D Holy fucking shit. At first I thought it was Hammertime, but then I'm like Rick James! The crowd loved it, and the energy was amazing. This is the perfect substitute for ASTB.

Too Much - Damn they are playing this song good this year. By now I had lost my voice and the crowd was into the concert like i've never seen.

Bartender - To cap off the best high energy run of songs i've ever seen, this was awesome. Dave didnt yell during the long jam, but hit some nice falsetto the whole time. Incredible version and Alpine was loving it.

When the world ends - I dealt with it, and it was pretty good.

Help Myself - Either no one still doesnt know this song, or no one was into it. The end was good but now the crowd was settling down a little.

Ill back you up -Awesome. Dave seemed a little off with his singing in part of it, but it was still great to hear.

Joy Ride - The woo's are here to stay, and let me tell you. They are hard to resist. They actually fit in very nicely if you give them a chance. Plus they were better then versions I have heard.

Grey Street - The energy was back for this. I love dave's yell's in this song. To Greyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyahhhahyahyahy ahhh.

Sugar Will - Kinda boring to put it bluntly. Roi's solo is pretty good, but they should do something different with the actual song.

Ants Marching - This was definatly not boring. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent.

Everyday(#36) - Well I was rudely interupted when a guy and his g/f came flying down the hill smashing into me and my friends spilling beer all over us and knocking us into the moat. Then they tried to stay there in our spots so I got security to kick them out as the guy falls on me again.

Besides that part Everyday rocked and I loved the 36 outro. It was probably one of the best 36 outros ive heard. And I do like it as a set closer.

---------------------------6 minute break only

Typical Situation - :D Thats all I can do. I really wanted to hear this and it didnt let me down.

Warehouse - :D Absoltly loved it. I was afraid they might close with Stay, but Warehouse came to the rescue! Great end to the show. I love warehouse.

No, Alpine crowds do not suck. Just some people around us on night 2 did.
There were probably about 10-15 people in our immediate surrounding that would sit down often enough. :(
You lose a bit of energy when a lot of people right around you aren't into it though. Just a small downer though. ;)

I'm paraphrasing, can't remember it exactly, but:
Between sets, do what you guys gotta do. Go pee-pee, if that's what you need. Go register to vote. If it's a small urge, go register to vote first, allowing time for more pee-pee to build up. If it's a big pee-pee, take care of that first, then go register to vote.

Pee-pee! :lol :lol

Night 2
Lawn front row on the left side. I think the right side is better, and the crowd was better on the right.

Dont drink the water - The mic didnt work for the first couple words dave said. Great way to start.

One Sweet World - I like the new intro

Fool to think - :ugh: :BANG At this point I said if they played Rhyme and Reason next I would walk out.

Sugar Will - A little less boring night 2. The crowd wasnt really into it.

Stay - Well, it got the place going!

Lover Lay Down - Good to hear. I was very happy to hear this because I thought this meant no Crash...

I did it - Are you kidding me? FTT and IDI in the first 7 songs.

Seek up - NICE@!@!@!@!@! Shorter version. Only like 12 minutes, but definatly a highlight.

Rhyme and Reason - 5/9 songs so far were played at night 2 in 2003. I do like this song though, and its got great energy.

Hello Again - Incredible again. I wanted it to segue into Halloween and come back to the Hello Again outro, but I survived. ;)

Joy Ride - Good song.

Loving Wings - So I heard Dave faintly start to play this and I say to my friend Matt. Dude! They're playing Loving Wings. Hes like nah they're not. But then he started playing it and im was very excited for a debut. He sang 2 lines, stopped playing his guitar and sang two more lines. It did sound like he was fucking up, but it seemed like he knew it would be just a tease. God I dont like teases!

Where are you going - .......

Jimi Thing - Finally! Incredible scat. Right up there with the best versions of the tour. Highlight of the night!

Crash - Lover lay down, WAYG, and crash all in the same concert??? Dixie Chicken outro

Drive in Drive Out - Dave fucked up a couple times, but the crowd was really into it. Tons of energy!

What would you say - Excellent song, and some good energy jammin.

----------------10 minute break

So here is where I realize they arent playing Crazy Easy tonight...

Crazy Easy - Where the hell is good good time?

Tripping Billies - Everyone knew it was coming and it fucking rocked. Boyd was realativly quiet early on in the night, but this made up for it. Great end to the best weekend i've ever had.

Night two was alot of fun, but I had a few gripes. The set list just seemed really wierd and not normal for the tour.

Pee-pee! :lol :lol
Also, they had Nirvana for house music last night, it was kind of fun.

The "go pee-pee" bit had us cracking up. It is obvious he has little ones around that have to "go pee-pee". We also enjoyed his little spider/hallucination bit when he was introducing Jem. :lol

More fun than the Nirvana house music last night was the Violent Femmes music. I'd had a few drinks in the lot, then a few of the large margaritas, so I was singing along lustily. :o

I also agree with whoever said that night 2's setlist was a little strange. It seemed weird to me too, and I wish I'd have been to night 1 instead. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed myself and all, something just seemed strange to me.

for the record i called ddtw as an opener for night 2 right after they opened w/ hello again night 2 (not that it was that difficult of a prediction to make but... :)) I would give night 1 a 5 out of 5 and night 2 a 4 out of 5. night 2 seemed a little strange to me. I wasn't excited to hear FTT and i was a little disappointed i didn't get to hear good good time in person, but nonetheless the weekend was the best of my summer. i think next year i will go pavillion both nights.

2nd night i knew i should have stopped at that taco bell in richmond, it looked so inviting!! my buddy was sleeping in the car and i was pretty tired so i just wanted to get home at that point.

if anyone gets to read that closed thread with the review in it, if you live near Milwaukee, make sure to slap that person who wrote it. Calling Butch 'new' and saying Some Devil was played that night is really retarded, and shows he/she knows nothing about them. At least she managed to look up some great music terms I'm sure she didn't know before. Go do some research asshole.

People are claiming that night 2 of alpine was the best show of the tour. However, DMB played "I Did It".

In my opinion this takes the show completely out of the running for best show. I Did It Sucks...period. And it ruins a set.

Ask all the people who went to the second night of the Gorge last year. I Did It opener....UGGG..

There were tons. We sat in the lot just pointing them out there were so many.We were playing that game too...did you notice that almost all the narcs had sunglasses with those strings so you can hang them on your neck? I walked past that trailer they had setup for the arrests and i swear all the cops there were sitting on those picnic benches sipping some beers...Luckily no one in my group got caught up in all that this year, we put everything into taco bell cups (thanks to whoever from here gave me that tip), i think they all knew we were drinking but couldn't really do anything about it. I also thought there weren't as many narcs in premier as the other lots since they probably figure all the kids are too cheap to pay the $20. Those people with the frisbee over the fence were pretty funny, we were all watching them, my car was about 2 rows further up from where all yall with the monkey were, sorry i didn't come by and say anything, i thought it would've been kind of weird to have a 17 year old coming up to all of yall. Our space in the lot kicked ass night one, there were 3 barrels within a 3 car radius...see yall next year at alpine....

Wow, what a great weekend at Alpine. Night 1 was just completely off the hook. One of the best sets I've seen for sure and eaisily in the top three for this tour. Superfreking it at Alpine. Typical/Warehouse encore was unbelievable.

I thought night 2 was good, but I thoguht the song placement could have been better. It seemed like a roller coaster go up and down in terms of energy with the way the slow and fast songs were grouped. But it was a really chill set though. Anyway I was pumped to see seek up for the first time in 4 years, also LLD, DIDO, jimi and hello again were high points.

It was cool meeting some of you in person, hope everybody else had a great time at the shows.

Heres my alpine story:

So we're planning on scalping tickets for night 1 but we don't get there untill about 8:30 and there is no more scalpers in the lot, but we were lucky enough to see an old guy that had 3 extra tickets. So we went back to his car and he said it would be just a sec cause he had to change. He didn't even bother to change in the car and we had to sit around and watch an old dude get changed but it was fucking worth it. The seats were 40$ and they were in 202 row v dead fucking center. Best seats i've ever had just perfect viewing. Wee went in just to catch the stone and had just an awesome time both nights.

Oh and the premire parking was bullshit. When we didnt have it, it took us 15 minutes to get out. When we did it took us literally an hour. Im never waisting 20 bucks on that again.

Thanks Everyone for a great weekend! Just got home from a 12 hour drive, Nite 1 was the best, great seats, near the back, but dead center. and we ended up next to some other guys that drove down from Brantford (with JIMITHNG plates) The guy from chicago that was inbetween us loved it cuz we got soo much Ontario pot. After the show we ended up hanging out in the parking lot with a bunch of people till 1:45am till the sheriff told us to pack it up. Even the parking kids showed up for 15 mins and hung out with us before moving along near the end, and we got to shoot off fireworks, which is always a good time (especially since we don't get any good ones up here :( )
Alpine is a great venue and I'll love to come back, thanks everyone for a great time!

5 star show *****(out of five)
Highlights: Superfreak, 41, 36, typical, ants, warehouse, Hello again

So I am back at work today from a weekend bender at the Valley I will almost certainly NEVER forget. I met one ANT, Illinois Mike, cool dude! Met no other ants which made me sad, met alot of other people which was great. Night 1, good god the best friggin show of the dozen or so I've been to. If you were there, you know what I mean, very solid set list and positive energy from the deafening crowd.

Two things which pissed me off this weekend one was no Good, Good Time, which almost seemed like a rally cry for this thread in the days and weeks leading up to the show. I thought for shizzle they'd have played this.

Second, to the ignorant bitches throwing glow sticks up on stage. You know who you are and DAMN I hope you got your asses beat :twak . You should be fuckin :banned from attending another show. But that's why you sorry asses do shit like that cuz ya know ya won't get caught.

Morning all! There's another thread on this already but since it relates to the Alpine shows I think it goes here as well --

On Sunday in Chicago a tour boat on the Chicago River full of tourists was doused by a charter bus crossing a bridge which apparently released the sewage from its bathroom into the river. Police are investigating, and apparently the band's drivers have been interviewed because they were in Chicago at the time. They claim they were parked, however and did not empty their tanks.

Here's a link to the Sun-Times story which does not name the band, but the Tribune story does...

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-boat10.html

To bring my horrible joke over here -- I think the real question is:

"Has anyone soiled the bridge?"

I uploaded 35 decent shots I got during the N1 show and both days tailgating. They are all mixed up and I'm too tired to sort them out and caption them. You'll have to join (free) to see the pics, though. Thanks again Matt for hooking us up with the imagestation.com stuff and the t-shirts. Enjoy.

my only question to you WB is....how is it possible to slurrr on the keyboard??
I tried to read it last night when I got home and me and Michelle just cracked up.
:lol Who knows? I was so messed up from that tea that I could barely function. And I'm used to typing on a regular keyboard and Crumbo had a little laptop. And then Melissa and Sarah were standing behing me making me laugh that it was even harder to type. :freak

Man, what a weekend. Good good times. I'm really feeling my age, though. Those shows are probably going to be the last time I get that messed up.

I'm sure Sarah's daughter was very happy to have her monkey back. Man, if she only knew what craziness the monkey witnessed! BTW, how pathetic is that picture of Brian, Jamon and Matt, all with their sweeties, and then me, sadly single at the show. :( Kevin will be at Gorge but I doubt I'll get him to pose for any pictures.

So, Brian, how did you manage to misplace your wife on N2?

Long story but here goes. We were maybe going to get down to the pavilion via Jamon during the show. But we were in the WH lawn and that got us one person from the concrete moat at the front of the lawn. Nice view and all. Sugar Will hits and Melissa decides that she needs to go to the bathroom. I tell her that there is no way we're coming back here with the crowd being so thick. She says she'll just take the moat to the side and go from there. Next thing I know she's bolting under the orange fence and into the pavilion. There's no way I'm fitting through the fence so I tell her to meet me at the checkpoint on the right side of the lawn. From that point it was just chaos as huge brawls breakout on the lawn with security at that checkpoint and darkness sets in. I heard her yell my name once but that didn't get us anywhere. I checked at the top of the hill, first aid, and the exit. Nothing. So I just hung out and waited by the checkpoint (which was guarded by at least 10 security and a huge metal fence) for the rest of the show. I finally took up the hill during the encore and left at the beginning of Billies. She was at the car and there was silence for the first few minutes of the ride. As wrong as this sounds, I still stopped to enjoy LLD, Seek Up, LW, Jimi, and DIDO because I'd kill myself if I at least didn't take in the music. But it was tough wondering where your wife was in the middle of 40,000 crazy fans.

Oy. Losing someone at Alpine totally sucks! You shouldn't feel bad about stopping to enjoy the music....that's what you're there for! At least you knew that the car would be a logical post-show meeting place. I hope she didn't stand there all night and hung out to hear some tunes, too.

My only concern was that she may have had too much to drink to be able to remember where we parked. She's directionally challenged.

Yea, in retrospect I can laugh at it too. But at the time I was having a serious panic attack. I could hear my heart beating in my ears and was shaking like a leaf. I know lots of people who've totally tweaked out from the stuff, but I've never had anything but a ton of fun and good times. Must be the increase in my age.

N2 injury was a different story but an equally good laugh at WB situation. Got so riled up during TB, dancing like a lunatic. I think I was airborne for a while, until I came down - literally - with my shin on the back of the seat in front of me. Aimee had to practically carry me up the hill. It's starting to turn a purplish-green today. Should look sexy at the black tie wedding we have on Sunday. :BANG

The girls were hilarious. We spent a lot of time watching them. They were dancing on the side of the stage with their parents during Jem (so sweet!) and then playing with one of those beach balls during DMB's set. Did you see the roadie corral them a few times? They did nearly end up on the stage. :lol And that little boy in his pajamas was adorable. :)

It's pretty blurry though, I might have to ask Crumbo to email me the file directly. For anyone who was keeping track of the stuff Jamon & Michelle misplaced during their stay, Jamon's Broncos jacket was left at the bar we went to on Thursday and they are holding it for me to pick up. We successfully found all 3 missing items. Thank you Alpine.

:thumbsup I love it....................despite the craziness of last weekend everything worked out.....must be WB's good karma :hugYea, Sarah and I were just out for a smoke talking about the amazing lack of serious drama. Forgotten tickets, lost wives, slutty friends, that's nothing. At least none of us ended up in jail or the hospital!

I CAN'T BELIVE I HAVEN'T YET TOLD YOU ALL THE ABSOLUTE FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE ENTIRE WEEKEND!!!! (Even funnier than me trying to type while tripping!)

N2. Aimee and I get back to the car where Jacob and Collin are waiting. Sarah and Melissa have gone to the bathroom or something and Melissa has the keys. I'm injured and messed up and realize it's time for me to sit down.

Collin had left his cooler next to our car and amazingly it was still there after the show (though all the beer was gone they left the soda). He says, "Why don't you sit down on this cooler?" to which I replied "Uh, because it's styrofoam." I sit on the back edge of the truck.

Not a minute goes by and Sarah and Melissa arrive. First words out of Sarah's mouth, "Shit, I am fucked up. I need to sit down." Before any of us can say a word she plops down onto the cooler and BAM! she's on her ass in a puddle of melted ice and pop cans, styrofoam has flown all over and the look on her face is priceless.

I swear, if we had caught that on tape we would for sure be winning $10K from America's Funnies Home Videos!

I think only women have maiden names.

Maybe E.T. can get a girlfriend named Superfreak. Imagine the monkey lovin they'd have! :evil But you're all correct - there's gonna be more monkeys next year than slutty girls in inappropriate concert attire.

I am baaaack! Sorry, I ahve not had a chance to go online, but I have been ill since I got home - actually, I never go thealthy before I went to Alpine. Well, it was great to see everyone again, even if it was for five minutes. Next summer, different story!

Crumbo - hope you have recovered from your unfortuate N2.
Brian - sorry to hear about the side mirror - among other problems!
Jamon - always a pleasure to see you (I hate the A's)
"The Matthew" - great to meet you, thanks again for the t-shirts! They rocked!

Got a feel for the area, more food, hotels, etc.

Can't wait for next summer, but I am starting to feel my age :( !

California - here I come!!!:) :thumbsup

Holy shit Alpine. Time if my life! I had the pleasure of speaking with Crumbo Saturday evening, but I had a hell of a time getting there and didn't get to meet up with you guys :( My flight was delayed 6 times and then eventually canceled so I didn't get into Chicago until 4:45pm Saturday. We hauled ass to Alpine but got stuck in sucky green lot. By the time we parked it was 7:30 and time to head into the show. Night one was unfuckingbelievable. All I can say is Super Freak. What a weekend. And THEN my phone died right after the show so I had no way to get anyone's numbers. It was so frustrating. But we all had our fun and there will be an ALPINE 2005 for sure.
