I don't really hate the SPAC thread (i've actually never been to the thread either) but as a webmaster of a couple other websites, I understand bandwidth and realize that it does waste bandwidth. That's my point of view for the whole thing.

liog_dmb
04-21-2004, 02:36 PM
I seem to be one of the lucky ones....all I have to worry about is getting food / beverages for tailgating. The only thing left for me to do after the concerts is deciding what temperature to set the air conditioner at my condo. No camping for this wus! :p

greppson
04-21-2004, 02:41 PM
i think we can both agree that there are other threads around here that are more of a waste of bandwidth than the spac thread. honestly.

but what i define as a waste may not be a waste to someone else, so to each their own. there is a conversation competent, referring to old shows, new rumors, etc happening in the spac thread.

The J2H
04-21-2004, 02:50 PM
I think we can make a special stop. Where are you camping by the way?
i'll be at BFB...if i ever get around to reserving a campsite

The J2H
04-21-2004, 02:55 PM
and another thing for all you hating the SPAC thread, if there was no alpine this year you would be still hoping they would announce it. why does the spac thread bother you so much? i mean come on... we're all fans aren't we? we can all hope our venue gets some dates can't we?
they don't call me "Hater J" for nothing:lol

and for the record, if there was no alpine show this year, i would be a little bummed, but i would just use any money i had towards that to go to some other show somewhere, and i wouldn't have started a new thread though.

yes we're all fans, and yes we can all hope our venues get some dates, but like i said before, eventually we all are going to have to come to grips that "our" venues will eventually be skipped

EDIT: 2 posts in a row...i'm a whore again

i love their motto: "say no to sold out shows"Mr. B's ticket service is hilarious. It started out as a candy, pop, magazine shop right behind my jr. high school in Skokie, IL, where we would literally go everyday to "hang" in the "lot." Over time they started getting rid of all the tangible things (damn kids kept stealing Snickers and Snapple) and now are solely a ticket broker. They're still in that same strip mall on Church St. Whenever I go home to see the folks I have to chuckle when I drive by.:lol

So to those that have camped at BFB...

What is the town near it like? I thought I had read that Lake Geneva is pretty close and that there is a town near by...any comments? I have lots of questions regarding the campground...also, for those that were there last year, was security out and about keeping a lookout? How far apart are the campsites from eacother? and lastly (for now) how big are each of the campsites?

thanks for any comments/responses...

PilotC150
04-21-2004, 07:39 PM
I'll answer your questions in order:

Yes, lake geneva is a (sorta long) walk from the campground. I didn't get swimming last year but it had a decent sized beach. Nothing like the ocean, though, but enough. The town is also right near by. It's a cool little town, very fun to just walk around and browse the shops downtown.

Security: I don't really remember them being around a lot. But as long as you keep control and don't be obnoxious they don't come after you. I don't think so, at least. I tell everybody this: how much drinking are you really gonna do AT the campsite? Most of it will be while tailgating. So really unless you really wanna get goin early and have to start drinking before you even leave for tailgating there's nothing to worry about.

The campsites, if I recall right, are about 100 feet apart, and are about 50 x 50. They're all different sizes though and not evenly spaced at all. But I will say that they are not crowded at all. There's plenty of room around you. Each site also has a fire pit.

Anything else, feel free to ask.

First off, thanks for the very quick response...I'm not too worried about the drinking at the campsite, I guess it has to do more with what to do after the show...by the way, this will be my first time at Alpine...I have read the stories about being stuck 2-3 hours after the show in the lot...I don't know, I guess I'm just trying to get a feel for what to expect...How are the showers/restrooms there? And do they have an "active" curfew?

thanks again...

Last year by the time we got back to the campsite it was lights out. They have security at the campground check you for bracelets (they give them to you when you check in) and they remind you it's quiet hours. I'm not sure what they are but prettymuch everyone was quiet when we got back. I think it was around midnight by then. I know i'm exhausted by the time I get back, I know exactly where I'm going once I get to the campground. zzzzzz

Dont look at is as being stuck in the lot. Look at is as a post-tailgate. Last year we fired the grill up and had burgers and watched as people in front of us moved a whole 10 yards in 2 hours. Plus it's a lot cooler and no sun to contend with like you have during the day. I wish more places would let you post-tailgate.

The showers at BFB are nothing special. They get the job done. What I remember are them being high pressured. They're nice. I wish my shower here put out that much water. Bring shower sandals though. The toilets are pit toilets, be careful, dont fall in!

any more ? 's?

Post-Tailgating was awesome. Since we spent most of the day and knew we'd be in the parking lot for some time after the show we didn't even fire up the grill before hand, just waited until after. The only crappy part is when people don't turn off their headlights even though you are sitting only 10 feet in front of their car.

Nobody from Ants as far as I know. I really really really hoping we have good weather last year. I was up for quite some time last year during the night making sure our tent wouldn't leak. The wind was sort of lifting up the rain cover thereby rendering it ineffective. It sucked a lot, to say the least.

SOme people are cool and fall asleep heading back TO the campsite. You then miss a stop sign, slam on the breaks, and they STILL dont wake up. But yea, im exhausted after the concerts, and i remember gettin back at like 2am. It was very late.

And atleast the showers at BFB are free. THe ones at a campsite in Washington cost like 50cents for 3 minutes, and if you don't know what you are doing, its cold water and you freeze your ass off and it sucks ass. THe ones at BFB are easy to work.

if you take amtak which it sounds like you are you can do rail sale from amtrak and you can get to chicago for dirt cheap. rail sale is on the left hand side of the main amtrak page.

edit: i just looked you can do rochester to chicago for 28.80 each way. when you click on rail sale its trains 48 and 49 that you want and then pick rochester out of the drop down menu.

well I just went and looked...that's an incredible offer...but the sale is only good for May...we were doing some research and we're in AAA...and it's only $80 each roundtrip out of Rochester to Chicago on Amtrak...so it's not terribly more, but at the same time, damn, $40 (total) is a lot to save...that'll almost cover our rental car. Brookfield is a nice area of town. Where you are staying is probably the heaviest commercial area in the Milwaukee area, next to downtown.

It is probably about 20 minutes to get to the downtown brewery. Most people go to the Miller Brewery (free), but my feeling is the best brewery to tour is the Lakefront Brewery. It costs $5 to get in, you get a free pint glass and 4 beers, and it's just a more personal tour than the macro brewery of Miller.

If you want to be awed by the size of production, go to Miller. If you want a better tasting, hand crafted beer, go to Lakefront.

Sure, the Sprecher Brewery is another microbrew, I think you have to call for reservations for that tour, but like Lakefront, they're tours are only on the weekends.

Sprecher costs $3. More information at:

There are other restuarants that have breweries in them for house brews, but Miller, Lakefront and Sprecher are the only 3 in the Milwaukee area that offer tours.

Does anyone know why the shows are starting at 6:00 this year? Don't they usually start at 7:00? I didn't make either show, but in 98, 99, 00, and 01 they all started at 7:00. I wonder if East Troy set a curfew.

I always thought there was a curfew of 11pm in east troy. I thought a few weeks back that a guy who works at alpine metioned why the start time was changed, but I can't remember the reason right now.

Sure, the Sprecher Brewery is another microbrew, I think you have to call for reservations for that tour, but like Lakefront, they're tours are only on the weekends.

Sprecher costs $3. More information at:
http://www.sprecherbrewery.com/sprtour.html

There are other restuarants that have breweries in them for house brews, but Miller, Lakefront and Sprecher are the only 3 in the Milwaukee area that offer tours.

I know its not near milwaukee, but do you know if New Glarus offers tour? I've really been into spotted cow lately

Sounds like you have it down to a science. Dare I ask how many you've gone to? Too bad there's not a hometown show this year for us. (colorado's considered my home show...closest one to s.dakota)

I have been to 40 shows. I am a little disappointed about the Denver shaft, but honestly Denver shows are always the least memorable because the Pepsi Center sucks for concerts. Red rocks on the other hand = very memorable. I am spoiled due to my Dad's flight benefits so I would rather travel to other great venues. It is a great way to see the country. I cannot wait for Alpine this year and my girlfriend will be a rookie. Plus Warehouse hooked me up with 9th Row for N1. Peace.

BFB is basically in the middle of town. Not in a like a downtown district or anything but it's in city limits of Lake Geneva. Once you're in the park though you feel like you could be a long ways away from town so that's nice. Security goes by once ina while but if you're not being an idiot they wont get off the road. They dont walk campsite to campsite digging through coolers being snoops. Be cool, and you'll be cool. There is fishing there, not sure how good it is though. I'm sure you could find some good spots at the lake if you asked a few of the locals.

I live about 1/2 hour south of Alpine, and it is at work. But it is first thing Monday, it is very important, and I can't be on just a few hours' worth of sleep, I think. Last year I went to both nights of Alpine and after the second night I drove home 2 hours in Chicago. I had to wake up early the next morning to start fullfilling my motherly duties again. It was pretty rough, but I don't think I could miss out the first night of Alpine.

Another thing, didn't someone say that the show starts at 6 now? Maybe there is now a curfew at Alpine, and the show will be ending earlier. I hope it doesn't, but I do find it kinda weird that it says it starts at 6.

Hi All:

I see that the DMB fun never ceases on the boards here. Hope you are all still ready to see DMB at Alpine Valley this summer.

Today, we posted a piece of theatre lore on eBay. Our beloved Camel from our Camel Smoking Lounge was posted today. Since Camel is no longer a sponsor, we are selling off this piece of theatre history and donating a portion of the proceeds to a local East Troy charity.

Take a look and happy bidding!

Well that's exactly it. The music scene here is pathetic. Nobody wants to go to a dmb show or hardly any concert for that matter. Hell, the Eagles are comming to rapid city and it hasnt sold out yet and tickets have been on sale for like 2 months now. The arena holds 8000 for cryin out loud. I swear 90% of the people here ages 10-30 listen to one radio station that plays the same "top 40" songs over and over all day. so what do you all think the chances of me taking three cars to Alpine, but somehow parking one somewhere outside of BFB are. i really don't want to fork out $90 just to get the cars i'm going to have to take into the campground. it wouldn't be a concern if i was only taking two cars, but since i'm splitting off from my group partway through indiana, i really have no choice. damn, this really sucks. i think if i can somehow park one car somewhere in Lake Geneva, BFB will be where I stay. i really want to stay there again, but i don't want to pay for three cars.

any suggestions?

There's a walmart there, not sure if it's a 24 hour walmart but I dont think you could go wrong parking it there.

I'm in Sec 203 Row UU, and my ticket says Uncovered Pavilion. Are my seats actually not under the roof, or does is say that just in case it rains and the wind might blow the rain on me? Just curious...

They might be uncovered?? Looks like they are right on the edge.

The last three rows are definatly uncovered completely, and the way it seems the outside edges of all rows are uncovered.

The lawn is also uncovered ;-)

I thought ALL Walmarts are 24 hours. Anyway, the one west of town is a lot further away than the one east of town. The one east of town is almost in town, the other one isn't.

Brian,
I've got two questions for you...

1. I'm in Sec 203 Row UU, and my ticket says Uncovered Pavilion. Are my seats actually not under the roof, or does is say that just in case it rains and the wind might blow the rain on me? Just curious...

2. How can I meet you at the show just to shake your hand and thank you for helping us all out? You're doing us such a big favor, it's the least I think I could do to thank you.

That's all...Hi All:

1. You are correct in #1. All seats are considered to be under the pavilion roof, but the last 8 rows of each section and the outside edges of the all sections (101, 201, 103, 203) are listed as uncovered as wind can blow rain into those areas.

2. Just look for me on the day of the show in the parking lots (it's much tougher to find me once I'm inside). I will be riding around on a yellow Suzuki ATV with lights, siren, and cargo box and will make the rounds through the lots a few times if I don't get too busy.

Regards,
Brian

Prettymuch what we expected then. I sat on the outer edge of 203 last year and I know it was still under the roof but yeah, there's a chance of getting wet if it's really windy and raining good...and the wind is blowing in the right direction. Odds are, you're gonna be fine unless you're in the last few rows of the pavillion.

Here's a partial map of BFB (http://www.antsmarching.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=12952) . All the sites with squares around them are booked, so they're filling up fast. All of the sites with names under them are ants that have those sites booked so get a site near one of them if you're up for hangin out with all of us. BFB is a good time.

I had no idea there were 2 walmarts there, let alone 2 SUPER walmarts. And no, not all walmarts are 24 hours. Most anymore are but not all. The one here never was until they made it a sams club and then rebuilt a new "super" walmart. That place is rediculously huge. I cant believe so many people go there to shop, parking takes 15 minutes alone. How I love to hate walmart.

The rangers are around, and i've heard they have busted some people, but like I tell everybody, how much drinking are you planning on doing AT the park? Most of it will be tailgating. Unless you really plan on continuing your drinking after the show, or in the very early afternoon there's nothing to worry about.

Hey everyone, I've been reading the posts here off and on and I've been noticing quite a number of people from the Dakotas, and I just wanted to let everyone know I feel a little more proud to say I'm from North Dakota. This year will be my second year making the trek to Alpine (last year I lost my DMB concert virginity at Alpine after being a fan for about 3 years). I see that PilotC150 goes to UND, I go to NDSU, but my girlfriend goes to UND. So I can respect UND, I won't take any shots at you. I too have a great deal of trouble finding people to go to Alpine here in Fargo. It will just be my girlfriend and I again this year. Anyway, for some reason I'm more excited about going to Alpine this year than I was last year, even though that's hard for me to believe, but it's true. I think after you see one show, it becomes like a drug and I just need to see more and more. So that's all I really wanted to say. I just can't wait to be there again this summer.

Anything on the seating chart update? You mentioned alpine was going to update their seating charts so you could see a picture of the stage based on where your seats are located. Just wondering if that was still in the works.

Oh, and for anyone who's been to alpine before. In the picture above, what all is in the big building above the lawn? I've been there 2 times but never made it in there, I never realized it was so big.

Yes, we are still working on a seating chart update. Since we have had major roof repairs to the pavilion in the off season, large numbers of seats were removed to accomodate the construction. Those seats are not back in yet, so we are waiting before taking the pictures. Also, we are completely renovating our handicapped seating area and are having an engineer come in to do a brand new and more detailed seating diagram complete with seat beginning and ending numbers for each row. Once that is complete and the seats are in, you will see a new and much more improved seating chart on our site. I will let you know when this happens.

The big building is called the "Expo" building. A hint for everyone is that it contains the largest number of bathrooms at Alpine. In fact, over 50 new women's stalls and over 40 new men's urinals were added in the off season to this building. In addition, in contains multiple concession stands, our guest services office, our security office, the VIP Lounge, and employee break areas.

One other item of note is that this building will also offer lawn chair rentals for the first time this season. Not sure on what the price will be, but you will be able to rent a chair for lawn seating and the chairs are "viewing" friendly meaning they won't get in the way of others. This new feature will be available on the west side of the Expo building (as you look at the photo, the left side).

Hope that helps! I was out at the theatre today for 8 hours already getting things ready for everyone and getting our over 600 staff people hired for the season.

Regards,
Brian
