Was it raining men? Hallelujah!
Homer Simpson's favorite song!

Alpine is my only two shows of the tour, so it makes it that much better of a weekend. It will be the longest DMB hiatus I've had since Alpine '99 to Alpine '00.

Hey guys, quick question for any of you who have stayed at bong in the past. How strict are they on the 6 person max rule, I think we might have more like 8 or 9, do you think it is a huge problem? thanks for the help

I have never stayed there, but I think they are pretty strict on it. This might be the camp site where they give everyone a wrist band so you can get back in.

I could be confusing it with another place though.

When we stayed there in 01, they matched everyone's name and number of people against their site on the way in after the first show, the second night there was no one at the booth.

I received good news today from the Iowa DOT, my personalized plates are waiting for me at the county building so I can pick them up tomorrow. We'll see what choice was awarded.:)

Well arent you just the pessimist! 80 sure seems a hell of a lot less than it was when tour dates were announced. Wasnt it more like 180 days then? So I exagerate a little but still. It's getting closer.

Hey everyone. Anyone remember me? I havent posted in a while. Spring here is so crazy. Work gets bussier and there's so much to do outside that I find it hard to get on here for more than 10 minutes. Ok, i'll quit making this my personal journal and get outa here, just wanted say hey to all of ya. I'm off to see The Eagles tonight. Hope it's worth the 80 dollar seats (those are the cheapest ones too, they went for 140 on the floor!) Alpine! 80 Frezeakin days! BAM!

Well, they played most of their "typical" encore songs the night before: Ants, Tripping Billies, Watchtower, Two Step....

It was a 15 minute version of LIOG with no Butch. Boyd had a great solo with the Ode To Joy interlude.

So, true, it was a one song encore, but it was a great encore IMO.

That LIOG was incredible, it topped the previous best version I had seen at Comerica earlier that tour. Boyd was on fire that tour.

Wisconsin State Fair will be going on at the same time as the DMB weekend, it's in West Allis, which is practically Milwaukee.

If you want to go to a zoo, not to rip on the Racine Zoo, but the Milwaukee County Zoo is a heck of a lot better, but also a bit more expensive for admission.

Don't get me wrong, I love camping. My old man and I camp quite a bit with our dog, at least 2 weekends a month in the summer. It's just camping for shows that I don't do. I'm too damn old, have been too abusive to my body and dance my ass off way too hard at the shows to then go and have to deal with no AC, no good shower, weather and mosquitos.

For us, camping (when it's an option) is the way to go. There are so many shows that we go to that camping isn't an option for because of location or the time of year. So we like to when we have the chance. In the summer though, it just makes the whole experince that much more of an "event." Something always goes awry, something always collapses and something always gets just trashed. But that's what's cool about the whole camping thing...some things you just can't get with a hotel stay.

Camping isn't SUPPOSED to be easy. That's what makes it fun.
I agree, but it's easier to nurse a hangover when you are in a controlled environment rather than battling the elements.

Speaking of a hangover, how much do you usually all drink at shows/tailgating?

I stayed at Delevan last year, and will probably do the same this year. I think we stayed at a Super 8.
They're totally booked at the Super 8, which is where we are staying. I made my res the day dates were announced. I love camping, but as I said before, I don't have the cargo space in my vehicle for everything we'd need.

hello everyone...i'm back, although i never really went anywhere, lol

this post just sparked an idea in my head:
what are everyone's favorites alcoholic libations? i'm mostly a beer drinker myself, but i'll occasionally dip into the hard liquor. just seeing what everyone else here likes, so maybe i can try some next time i'm out drinker. of course, i have to start stock-piling for the road trip as well....

Yeah, earlier this week, it was about 80 and pleasant, today its about 50 and rain all day. It was kind of a pain in the ass last summer when it rained night 2....standing on the lawn was a pain because it felt like you were going to slip on your back every 3 minutes.
although the hotties fighting in the mud pit was nice

Wisconsin State Fair will be going on at the same time as the DMB weekend, it's in West Allis, which is practically Milwaukee.

If you want to go to a zoo, not to rip on the Racine Zoo, but the Milwaukee County Zoo is a heck of a lot better, but also a bit more expensive for admission.

Brewery tours are always fun. :thumbsup

The other two breweries are Lakefront Brewery and Sprecher Brewery. Very good beer at both of them, better than Miller IMO.

edit: As for my favorite drinks, my friend's and I have been on a kick lately of nostolgic beers (Blatz, Pabst, Old Style, etc.), but nothing beats a good old Lienie's Honey Wiess, or, if I'm going for a sippin' beer, a Lakefront Riverwest Stein or Sprecher Amber.

I kep a really hard time finding my car last year on night 2. (On night 1 I got a golf ride back to my car cause I fell going up the hill. Yes, up the hill.) I took the panic/alarm button on my car, and kept on hitting it cause I knew it would go off as I got closer. It thankfully worked, and I rushed my way out of there.

I've found that the key to finding your car after the show is to make sure you walk down to the venue via one of the actual aisles and count the number of garbage cans you pass. Oh, and remembering the color of the lot you're in. Last year I made sure everyone in our group remembered, as if it was a mantra, "Green - 7."

The colors help...
When I went to Alpine shows in 2002 I just made sure to park by the long line of bushes and outhouses. Mainly for convenient bathroom breaks, but also because those trees and bushes are an easy landmark. I think it is the yellow lot if I remeber correctly.

Be careful using trash cans as markers. Some outdoor venues move them around a bit to help the flow of outgoing traffic.

Yea, but all of the lots have the trees/bushes/port-a-potties and sometimes they just herd you into a row and make you park. Another good landmark can be the big lights they set up w/ the noisy generators at the bottom of them.

Hi All:

I am pleased to announce that this year, all of our lots will have much needed and improved signage on all of the light poles for ease in finding your vehicles. Each pole will have two 2'x6' reflective signs in the color of the lot with the number of the pole on them. Hopefully, that will help you out.

For the Alpine newbies, Alpine has six different parking lots. Yellow is the largest lot and closest to Highway D. It can accomodate three lanes of traffic coming in. The Blue lot is the long and narrow lot right off of our main entrance. The Red Lot is the lot near our front gates where busses and other oversized vehicles park and the VIP/Premier Lot is in the front of the Blue lot nearest the gates and also has a special road to exit. The Green parking lot is the one that is about a 1/2 mile walk down a twisty wooded road to get to our gates. And last, but not least, our disabled accessible lot with shuttle service to the theatre is located near the Alpine Valley resort.

Hope that helps. See everyone in about 2 months.

Regards,
Brian, Security Manager

Hi:

No help needed in picking up the golf balls, sorry. Green lot is usually the last lot to be opened and parked (and is also the smallest lot we have), so your best bet would be to arrive at a reasonable time and you will most likely be parked in one of the other lots. Of course, our lot parking is all dependent on traffic flow as well and the backups on neighboring roadways. So, Green lot may open earlier depending on traffic, but you can always bet that Yellow, Red, and Blue will be the first lots to open usually in that order.

Another option is to pay $20 for Premier Parking in the front of the Blue lot which gets you close to the gates whenever you happen to arrive and gets you out in a reasonable amount of time as well.

Brian

YELLOW LOT!

We always try for the Yellow lot, and this year and are shooting for an arrival between 1pm and 2pm. Everyone should try to find the Jeep, as we always bring an excess of beverages and meats, and don't mind sharing with 30,000 of my closest friends. Invariably, you will encounter the inebriated searcher who asks you where their friends are. I always point somewhere far, and say "They're that way." Hey, I might be right.

The car alarm trick does work nicely in a pinch(especially when I have over 1/4 mile range from my remote).

In 99 we arrived quite late and were parked by the highway. I stated that I would not be remembering where we parked, so of course everyone else forgot. If it wasn't for the easy to spot Dodge tow truck parked next to us, we would have been there until 5 am.

Hi:

Just remember not to use anything tall and metal to attach this flag to! We don't want a repeat of last year.

Thanks,
Brian
Will do. :)
And you remember that the girl with the long blonde hair and huge rack that's flying this flag is the one that's gonna name her first son after you in return for taking her backstage to meet the boys.

Hey Mel!! Yes I am flying all the way from good old Phoenix to spend the weekend at Alpine. I CANNOT wait...I am camping at Bong...where will you be??
We still haven't booked anything yet. :( We are looking into hotels right now, and can't find ANYTHING. I can't believe things have booked up this fast. Last year we booked our hotel about 2 months before the show, and had no problem finding anything. Maybe I will end up in Milwaukee.

Anyone have any suggestions for me!!!!!!!

hmmm....I see carpooling from the Country INN and Suites in our future :p
You know, I was just thinking that we'd have to meet up at the CI&S before heading into the lot. Except that I bet you'll get there on Sat. before us since we're driving from way the hell up here. Sunday should be simple enough to figure out.

Eh, let's get through Tweeter first. We'll still have 50 days after that to figure out Alpine details. Maybe I can talk the girls into the premier parking. I'll try at least.

And then after Alpine we'll make our plans for Gorge!!!! (Did I tell you that we got the WH hotel package!?) You're going to get to meet a wide spectrum of the people in my life!

spend the $20 and park in premeir parking....no worries about a long walk and easy access out....that's where I will be :)

Sorry if this has been asked already but, do we get the premeir parking before the show(like days/weeks) or do we just get in a seperate line?

Thanks :)

Hi:

Not sure if you've tried these two hotels yet, but they are worth a shot and only about 20-25 minutes from the theatre and right on the freeway (I-43) and you won't have to deal with Milwaukee traffic.

Holiday Inn Express, New Berlin
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/mkenb?irs=null

Baymont Inn & Suites, New Berlin

These are often overlooked when people are searching for hotels.

I think i'm going to try to find a long vinyl pole, hollow in the middle, that I can put a flag on and then slide the poll over my car's antenna. That would work well, unless somebody steals the pole.

Normally they open at 2, but this year it's 1. Coincidentally, the gates open at 4 instead of 5 and the opening act starts at 6 instead of seven.

I have no idea, from what I know I think it's under 30 minutes away, and it's outside the city so it's not completely terrible...

if your not looking for a specific hotel you really should try priceline too, you can Select Brookfield as your area, that's what I did...

Brookfield is actually an upscale suburb of Milwaukee on the west side of Milwaukee. Depending on where you are in Brookfield, you will be around 25-35 minutes away from the theatre.

Depending on which part of Brookfield you are coming from, it'll be about 30-45 minutes to Alpine.

Michelle - you'll probably be closer to the 30 minute distance.

Brookfield is a pretty big suburb and goes quite a distance to the north around here and I-43 is pretty far south.

Hope that helps out.
