Yea, I'm a bit mad about no Target Center, too. If all I had done was go to the alpine shows (meaning cutting the camping and tailgating) the Target Center show was probably better than both of the alpine shows. But like I said, the camping and tailgating make Alpine more fun. But the Target Center show kicked ass and I think the band had more energy than they did at Alpine.

I'll be at alpine. 3rd year in a row, i'll be there some way some how. I'll be stayin at Big Foot again. Let's just hope for a little less rain this time around. Not sure if I'll be able to do the road trip or not, I'll probably cash in on some flier miles and fly to chi town or milwaukee. Let's see what happens. I'm waiting to see when this festival (if there is one) will be.

Alpine! I live in Milwaukee so I'll probably just drive up and back for both nights...but i'm thinking about a hotel or possibly camping out...i think it would be more fun that way...i just gotta do some research into hotels and camp grounds around the area...i really like the placement of these shows...well into the tour so they'll be playing well...right before the break in the tour...plus the chicago show is a whole month plus before this...so we can get a mix. There's no camping AT alpine. That's probably the one and only downside to this venue. There's a ton of places to stay in the area though. I stay at Big Foot Beach state park in Lake Geneva, 15-20 minute drive or so. A lot of people stay at Bong state park. There's a resort right by alpine too if you want to spend the money but I highly suggest getting some camping gear together and meeting some ants out there. VERY fun time meeting some of the people from this board. I suggest anyone reading this thread to come out and camp somewhere for the alpine shows. It's a blast.
Let the countdown begin!!!!

First of all, Target Center in Minneapolis sucks ass for sound quality... the Xcel Center would be 100 times better, so I'm not disappointed one bit. However, I wish they would have booked Soldier Field for sure, one of my favorite venues, I've been 10th row or less so acoustics were nothing to complain about.
ALPINE CAMPING
Scenic Ridge is probably the best one I've used so far. I've been to Alpine for the last five years. Big Foot Beach has lots of waterfront, it's a state park which doesn't allow any alcohol beverages, of course you can sneak it in. Scenic Ridge has a small beach that we used to chill at and pretty cool campgrounds if you get there early and book ahead of time. Lots of great sites and cool people from last year. There is another campground that was shut down by the county, so no permit. I can't remember the name but it was a ton of fun...except no trees...basically just open fields. That's about it, my gang is booking some sites at Scenic, hopefully we can get enough Ants to congregate there! By the way, the drive is around 10-15 minutes to ALpine.
See ya at ALpine!
Lake Geneva peeps, feel free to chime in for your camping experience, this is the number one question on all message boards for Alpine it seems.

I usually order my tickets through the Warehouse, but after years of nothing stellar, I'm thinking about trying at the Riverside, the Alpine Valley Box Office...has anyone else done this before? Are there good seats available? How early does one have to show up to get in line in order to get good seats? Any help would be appreciated.

Be sure to tell us what spot you got, we'll make a map like last year to keep track of all the ants going.
Chris (pilotc150) made the map last year.
BFB is actually really cheap- I dont remember how much but if you have 3-5 people on a site, it's like 5 bucks a night at most, per person.
EDIT:
Here's our map from last year, this is just one section of BFB. This is the "tent" section, there's a whole other section that was full of dmb'ers in the "campers and trailers" section I guess it what you would call it.

$7.00/per person/night (increases $2/night for Fri/Sat stay)
Bong (http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/usa/wi/bong/newindex.html) - 21.0 miles on yahoo maps to Alpine
$7-8.00/night/person (increases $2/night for Fri/Sat stay)
Scenic Ridge (http://www.wisconsincampgrounds.com/cgi-local/directory.pl?ID=612) - 19.8 miles on mapquest, $10/person/night
PARTY BUS! :thumbsup
My crowd is going to try out Big Foot Beach this year, tried Scenic in the past, but need some change. Anyway, I MAY have a party bus reserved for Sat./Sun. night, I expect around 10 people in my gang...the bus holds 25 comfortably, parks close to the venue and no worries about getting to and from the concert with a couple drinks in ya. If anyone is interested, I will reserve spots for you on the bus for both nights. Cost each night per person will be $15-$20. Closer to the show, I'll let everyone know of the specifics, pickup time, location etc. The bus will pick us up at Big Foot Beach around 4pm (tentative) and leave an hour after the show back to BFB. If this is something you will be interested in, email me with your name and ants id for now...rockinalpine2004@hotmail.com
Like I said, this is still tentative so nothing is set in stone, just trying to get a jump on things.
Hope this shit helps.

I'll be going to Alpine again and it looks as like we have a pretty big group going, at least 8 people as of right now. A few friends have booked hotels in whitewater, but i'm still undecided since I'd rather camp than hotel it. I'll probably know in the next couple of days. Hopefully the whether will be more conducive with my tailgating plans this time around but I'm sure we'll still be there when the lot opens liek we are every year.

Dave wouldn't let them take alpine away. It's his favorite venue. From various interviews that I've heard, he seems to like the midwest area (wisconsin, minnesota).
Remember from Storytellers, DDTW was written/thought up while he was spending time on the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.

Just remember how far off the map is from how it actually is. Tree-wise, I mean.
You booked 15 last year (like the map says) but didn't you move to 12 after you got there? I remember you being closer to Tim's site and my site and leaving 15 open (right next to the road). I've got 13 booked. Not sure if tim or liz are going to take 14. But I don't think you stuck with 15 last year, so don't make a mistake and get that one

Here's the beginnings of a new Big Foot Beach campground for us Ants. Post here as you book your site and I'll add you to the map. What we didn't know about last year was the trees. Those are the main trees that I can remember. There are definatly more trees there, but that row of trees that I drew are solid and significatly break up that part of the campground. I suggest to grow to the left of the map if you want to stay near the rest of us.

This may not seem important, but can anyone let me know how much tolls are going to Alpine from Toledo, Ohio. Please let me know if you have made the drive from anywhere around Toledo(Detroit, Cleveland, northern Indy, etc.). Im just trying to put together a budget for this trip.
Thanks, Dave

I think the toll was around 5 or 6 bucks for Detroit.
As far as camping goes...I did not like Scenic Ridge.
Pit toilets and 2 very disgusting showers. Not a problem if you only go for the two days but we stayed 4 nights. I always felt cleaner before I got out of the shower.
Does anyone remember the people who set up the roadblock last year inside Scenic Ridge? It was right in front of us night 1, I've never laughed so hard.

More Camping/Lodging Info.
The is a hotel right at alpine 200/per night double occuapancy.
In East Troy there is a few bed & breakfasts. (Elliots & Pickwick)
My group just booked a different one, we have the whole b&b to ourselves. It was cheap to. LIke 100 per person for 3 nights and someone to cook us food.
In Lake Geneva there were two reasonably priced Suites. One is "The Cove"-730 for 6-8 people for 3 nights. The other is called Duffy's, a little less $ but not as nice.
As far as camping goes. I think we will get all we care to handle tailgating.

If you stay at scenic ridge and want to be out on the water for the day, there is a pontoon rental just past where you enter scenic ridge. We did it last year. Whitewater is a nice lake. Didn't catch any fish but we caught out limit of buzzes. (?)

As long as you aren't being obnoxious they probably won't notice you. They do have rangers on 4-wheelers riding around making sure people are doin alright, but that's about it. When you see one coming just hide your beer.
And really, chances are you'll be drinking more while tailgating than while camping.
I really recommend Big Foot Beach if you want a good camping experience with some privacy. You can stay at Bong State Park, which allows alchohol, but those, as far as I know, are mostly group sites so they aren't as private.

I just checked and BFB sites 12, 13, 14, 26, and 27 are the only sites booked so far. Just so I don't jinx anything, I'm not gonna book my sites until I have tickets confirmed. I'll take whatever I can get when that happens. Hopefully, maybe this year we'll be closer to everyone else, although we just weren't around enough to really hang out. If we get there before dark on Friday this year, we shuold be able to kick it.

If you stay at scenic ridge and want to be out on the water for the day, there is a pontoon rental just past where you enter scenic ridge. We did it last year. Whitewater is a nice lake. Didn't catch any fish but we caught out limit of buzzes. (?)
You wouldn't happen to know the name of the rental place do you?

the fact that they threw Alpine into Series 1 when by the tour dates it falls into Series 3. any idea why they would do that? this really screws my requests up because now there are 6 shows in Series 1 that i want to request. it doesn't help that i'll be out of town when tickets go on sale, so i can't get them that way either. grrrrrrrr

To be honest, I think it's people like there are on here that is why it's done that way. They don't want people requesting evey show in their area. It makes more sense. Since some people can't travel very far, or have to travel very far to get to their closest show (like my 10 hours), it's the most fair way to do it. This way I can be sure people that there won't be 100,000 people requesting tickets for Alpine, because some of them will be going for the other shows in the midwest region, which are closer to their home.
Does that make any sense?
Like Jennifer said, it's probably too early. I know what I WANT to say, but did I make it clear enough?
The J2H
02-26-2004, 04:24 PM
i understand where you're coming from. but you know as well as the rest of us, people will always find a way around it. i haven't looked, but i'm sure there are tons of people on the Ticket Forum asking people to request shows for them. i'm just gonna request my five shows, and then take my chances with ticketmaster, it's the only thing i can do really. i don't want to ask anyone to request tickets for me, because 1) i think that's cheating the system, and 2) there always the chance they would get will-called and then i would be totally screwed.
i think it's late enough now that i should have made some sense, but i wouldn't doubt if i go back and read this only to discover i was just talking incoherently.
although i must say if all else fails i could always look for tickets on the board. that seemed to work out pretty well, right Chris? and to think i almost started worrying about finding you, and then *POOF* you appeared!

thanks for all the help so far and in previous alpine threads :)
I stayed at BFB back in 2000, and they enforced the no Alcohol, also the last night a buddy and I got possession tickets for a small amount of weed, I had the box in my pocket he had the one hitter in his hand. It was late and5 of us were just sitting around the fire talking and two rangers walked up behind us, we both got tickets for 325$ mine I had to pay on the spot because I was from out of state. Have not been back since.
I also have friends who stay there every year, and have good time with no problems. I think we just got two rangers who hated their jobs that nigth. Going to Bong this year, no worries about having a few beers.

Just a suggestion, can you type out everything instead of writing it "ne1 kno". It's so much easier to read.
The lawn at alpine is huge, and very steep in most spots. I've never watched a show from the lawn but there are a ton of people who will only see a show from the lawn so it must be pretty good. You'll be glad you came either way.

i was lawn both nights last year:
night one we seemed to pick a high traffic area, so that was a pain having people constantly bumping us and whatnot
night two we had no problems
i'm usually a lawn-only person, and Alpine's lawn is user friendly because there's not a bad vantage point from any spot

The lawn sucks at alpine, unless your in lets say first 30 feet from the pavilion your sound sucks, cant hear crap. Lawn is a good time if your there to just have fun. but if you want to actually watch the show, the lawn is not the best. my first trip there in 99 was in the lawn, and alpine has one of the best views ive seen walking over the hill, but for taking in a concert the lawn isnt the best imo. Ive been in the pavilion since and wouldnt go back to the lawn. Basically, if your there to actually watch the concert, the lawn isnt the best, unless your really close to the seats.

Big Foot Beach State Park:
20-30 Minutes away from the theatre
$9.50 reservation fee plus $11.50 a night
No alchohol allowed in the park (offically)
Great as far as camping experience goes. Nice trees and fairly flat ground.
Right next to the town of Lake Geneva, a wonderful little town on Geneva Lake in southern Wisconsin. Great place to kill the day if you just wanna walk around. Last year it was crowded as hell because it was the weekend of July 4th. Not sure if it's always like that, though. It might be.

Lake Geneva is the place where all the Chicagoans have their summer homes. It's pretty busy up there throughout the summer, but especially packed on holiday weekends. It was the most crowded I've ever seen when we were all up there 4th of July weekend last year.

Bong State Recreation Area allows alcohol. However they do not allow noise. Period. After the show you cannot play a radio, play a guitar, laugh, or talk in a moderate voice. We camped on Sunrise Loop in 2001. The park rangers were walking around being a pain. Our neighbors explained that everyone on the loop was there for DMB and nobody cared about the "noise." It did zero good.
The water you ask about is a swamp.
Anyone that camped at Bong for DMB/Labor Day '01 can tell you that the swamp came into the tents that monday. We had over 14" of water in our tent that morning. Stupid rain. 9 shows at Alpine and I always come home wet. This year it's a hotel in Delavan.

I can honestly say that I've never heard anyone say a single good thing about staying at Bong. It always starts out like a good idea and always ends up with someone catching a cold and someone else getting fined for their extracurricular activities. In 2000 we let these 2 kids crash in our hotel room because we found them sleeping in their car in the parking lot after being booted out of Bong by the park ranger. They were busted by him and literally spent their last dollar to keep themselves out of jail. No place to stay, no money, no treats. They were seriously bumming. I'd hate to see that happen to anyone else.

At BFB, if you're quiet and are under control, your stay will be hassle free.

For all you people looking for a place to stay you can chill with us in the COMMANDER. This is my 6th time seeing DMB at Alpine. Every year it is better and better, our group grows every year. From doing keg stands on the freeway, to the wild turkey it's great. This year we are bringing the COMMANDER. It is a 1976 RV, we brought it to the Packer game this year and it's too much fun. It has all the necessities for a good party. We will be there both days ealry so if anyone is around stop by.

Seriously, take a look at Scenic Ridge, that's where we plan on staying...and yes I am the party bus man, so if you want to go where the party bus is, stay at Scenic (no departures from BFB anymore). They have agreat sites on top of a hill near the woods, great access to a beach and not a dry open field, also they are very alcohol and DMB friendly...take a look, I highly recommend it!

Exactly why you check out Scenic Ridge, you will not encounter any of those issues...PM me for info.

Reservations at Scenie are not being taken until they open April 15th, however, you can still leave your name and phone number. This is only for reserving an actual 6 person site...if you want to hit up the open area (still has trees/shade), it's first come first serve and probably should get there friday evening. We are going to shoot for the open area, we can fit more people.

As for being top poster, I probably won't have time to do that this year. But if you look at the Alpine 2003 thread, you'll see I'm still top poster, and I haven't really done much posting in there at all since the showed ended last july. I had a HUGE lead in that thread.

Shouldnt be hard for you to do that with your posts. Ah well, I'm still in the running for top poster this year, it's earrrrrrrrrly, way early. I plan on bein here damn near every day but like you say this thread is too damn slow to even post anything worth talking about. It'll pick up in a couple weeks once we all get confirmed *knock knock*.
How many shows did you all request besides alpine? or if you're not a wh member, how many shows do you plan on going to?
I'm in for alpine 2x, of course, deer creek 2x, tinley (only because it's on the way to deer creek) , and in the last hour of the wh lottery request period i threw in requests for all three nights of the gorge. 8 shows total, WOW. and i'm only taking 12 days off this summer to go to all those shows, not bad.
---------
We should have an ants bbq in the alpine lot or at one of the campgrounds that everyone can attend even if they're not staying there. Everyone's staying relatively close to each other. Then we could all caravan to alpine in a huge line of cars. How cool would that be. (i'm dreaming bigtime here, i know- it's unlikely but I wish it were so simple to get everyone together)

Most of the time places just try to eye ball you when your checking in. If you check in with two cars, both with four people in it but only get one site they might say something but once you slip past that part... it's all downhill as long as you keep a low profile :D

unfortunately, they do. when you check in they ask how many people you have at your site, and they then give you wristbands for each person. anyone who doesn't have a wristband on is technically not allowed in the campground. on the other hand, i can't say that i saw anyone get kicked out last year for not having their wristband on, although i'm pretty sure we had to show our bands everytime we came back through the front gates.

i can't really understand why the warehouse entended the ordering period 12 hours. i know they said it was to accomdate people making traveling plans, but the way i see it, they should have left the time when it was and pushed forward the confirmation date if they really wanted to accomodate for traveling. the way i make my plans is that i wait until i know i have tickets before i make any reservations. obviously, there are several ways to get tickets other than the warehouse, so even if i do get declined for my requests, i still have hope. i guess i'm just overly cautious when it comes to making reservations.

just wanted to clarify something about fees for BFB. sunday through thursday, it's $8 for Wisconsin residents and $10 for non-residents. saturday and sunday (as well as peak seasons), it's $10 for WI residents and $12 for non-residents. there is also a $9.50 reservation fee if you go through Reserve America. the price is per site, not per person as i think someone stated earlier
Friday through Sunday (WI residents) - 26 + 9.50 = $35.50
Friday through Sunday (non-residents) - 34 + 9.50 = $43.50
either way, once you split this between your campers (you can have up to six per site) it could cost as little as $7.25 per person. of course you then have to pay for car fees, which is $30 per car. either way, it's not expensive at all.
