i don't need wailing. look at ynk (no wailing / screaming), they can come up with a lot better music than what sugar will currently has (it'll probably get better), and i may like it someday. someone compared it earlier to video game musicgreat, if its video game music, then its a damn good video game.

Agreed completely. I would never of imagined Nancies as an encore. Hopefully they will continue to mix it up and start adding some more songs in the sets: Say Goodbye, Dreaming Tree, JTR, SUAD, Last Stop, Minarets, Typical Situation, LIOG, 41.

Play these songs less often if at all: Grey Street, FTT, WTWE, Too much, WWYS, SMTS.

Speaking of all these natsy food combos, here's some food for thought....the last time Nancies was played full band in an encore was back on 7/10/98 in Italy.
It was played 7/29/02 at Spac as a solo song in the encore.

Well here's my review I posted in Tour Central, but I figured no one would read it there. So did anyone see me in the front row? Haha, my friends told me that I stuck out... that I was going crazy.

Wow. Front row in the pit. Some of you might remember me... some of my friends in the lawn said they could see me "going crazy" jumping up and down with my "long arms" in the air. My voice is hoarse from yelling so loud and so much. I can't remember a time when my voice has been so bad. Anyways, I had an amazing time. It was only my 4th DMB show, but that doesn't reflect how big of a fan I am. I'm young, thats why I haven't been able to get to many shows. This was my first time hearing a number of songs like Recently, Jimi Thing (well I've heard Jimi Thing, but not with the scat, so I'd count that as an entirely different song), and the one I most enjoyed, Two Step. I just absolutely went crazy. Dancing and singing. Like, I guess it was just bottled up inside me since I hardly ever get to go to DMB shows, but I'm such a huge fan. My seats couldnt have been better, front row in the pit, seats 1 and 2. I could see everyone expressions on their faces. I notice that Dave looked at me once and Stefan smiled at me a few times (I was positioned right in front of where he stood). How amazing is that... to see Two Step for the first time and be front row in the pit for it. That was probably the best night of my life. Hands down.

So did anyone see me in the front row? Haha, my friends told me that I stuck out... that I was going crazy.

My Crazy Review

1.WWYS- Normally im sick of this song but the crowd & I were feeling it tongiht. everyone was singing and you could tell the band was ready to play.

2. The Song That Jane Likes - Refreshing to hear this classic again the crowd seemed to like it alot

3. Too Much - once again another song the crowd got into hardcore. it was played a lil differntly then the last time i heard it. the jamming is always awesome

4. Recently - i was suprised how many people in the crowd could sing along with dave. i was also sadden watching people get up cuz they didnt like it :(

5. Sugar Will - Great Great Great song!! i really like it again :) i got really pissed off thou since people didnt even give the song a chance and left or sat down. stupid

6. If I Had It All - Nice energy. Dave really loves this song and its growing on me 2... the crowd sang along also not bad for an everyday song!

7. Don't Drink the Water - 3rd best song of the night I couldnt believe what i was hearing... the energy from the band was CRAZY.... this blew the roof off star lake!!! i was singing as loud as i could and i love it!

8. Hello Again - another great song that gets no love from fickled crowd i love it though :)

9. Drive In Drive Out - didnt see this one coming... another crowd pleasure :) good energy

10. Grace Is Gone - 5th best song of the night. that intro was CRAZY!!!!! i couldnt believe how it sounded! the crowd LOVES this song and with good reason... its just a happy song

11. Joy Ride - I love this song i really do... i wish people would give it a chance

12. Thing - Another Great New Tune. I love the Jam in the middle. i hope people will stick around to hear it!

13. Fool to Think - Ehhh i dont mind this song but i wish they would have played sumthign else... Watchtower prehaps.

14. Jimi Thing - Easily the best song of the night. the song was prefect. the jams were out of hand. i cannot even explain to tell you what dave was doing but it put the crowd into a mood and gave out energy i've never SEEN before!! 16 mintues and no one wanted it to stop!

15. Crazy-Easy - Nice way To Cap the new songs. i think this album is gonna rock my socks :) people gotta give it a chance live thou. stupid how people always got up when they played sumthing new.

16. Two-Step - Finally A Debut for 2004. the 4th best song of the night. Carter & Butch Ruled this song. the video screen was out of control. everytime carter hit the drum the screen would show a differnt member of the band. I love this song live!

After DMB left the stage the place was going nuts for them to come back. all i could see from my row was Lighters. the place was loud till the band came back. then it exploded!

Encore

17. Dancing Nancies - Boyd was king of this song. his violin play made me night. this was the 2nd best song of the evening. the crowd lost it when dave wished he was lost somewhere in PA. Greatness leading into the finale

18. Stay - what a way to cap a night. i didnt think the band wanted to call it quits. good energy to send us home happy.

** Side Note**

i want everyone to know how great of a Venue Starlake is we got to the place around 4:10 and walked about 10 feet before being greeted by complete strangers. they offered us a beer and time to chill. if you get a chance to visit any venue on the east coast go to star lake im tellin u that it doesnt disappoint

BEST SHOW I'VE BEEN TOO, AND POSSIBLY BETTER THAN CENTRAL PARK!!! I can't wait to get the recording of this. I LOVE THE NEW SONGS!!!! Shame on anyone who didn't give them a chance. I think I'm gonna call HELLO AGAIN
"THREE STEP" since it does have Two Step's drum beat. The guys were one fire tonight and reminded me why I love being a musician. My ears are still ringing!!!! The new songs are fantastic, and different from what they've played before. THIS NEW ALBUM WILL BE THE BEST YET!!!! For some reason, I felt like I was in the "House of Blues" watchin the guys tonight. They just had that cool bluesy feelin in the way they played. The new songs are gettin TIGHT!!!! I've never seen DMB havin so much fun. I can't wait for 8/1 at West Palm Beach.

Side Note: Keller was awesome too.

Side Note II: Did it seem like Roi was gettin pissed off with sticky keys on his tenor and soprano? Maybe since I play sax, I'm the only one who noticed, but everytime he wasn't playin, he was staring at the mechanism of the saxophones. It also amazes me how quickly he adjusted the mouthpiece on the alto durring WWYS. He heard that the horn was a little sharp, moved the mouthpiece out, and was back to playin before anyone even noticed. Roi...you still amaze me.

Wow this show was insane. I showed up hoping to hear 'Recently' and 'Two Step'. I also got to hear some other songs that haven't been played in the tour yet. The show started out pretty mellow but when Jimi Thing was played everyone went nuts. Wow I love DMB. The bond they've been having so far this tour is really tight. It makes me think they'll be together forever. They played amazing tonight.. and last night.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the crowd at this show (at least around me, section 7 row z) was absolutely the best. It was great to be surrounded by that many people just feeding off the energy that was coming from the stage. From the opening chords of WWYS, to the closing screams of Stay, this show is arguably one of my favorites. Hello Again is the shit!! Easily my favorite of the new songs. If you haven't heard it yet, you are in for a real treat. Love it. Jimi Thing was sick. Scat Dave, Scat!!! WOW. How can you go wrong with a set that includes Song That Jane Likes, Too Much, Recently, Don't Drink the Water, Drive In Drive Out, Grace, Two Step, Nancies, and Stay. Most incredible show...

All hail DMB!!!

Can't wait for Blossom!! (4th row, WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO) Hope to see everyone there..

Good view, section 9, inside. what a great setlist tonite.

Don't Drink the Water - favorite song of all time. Worked perfect going into Hello. STJL – band played this one the best out of the first 4 songs, in my opinion. Recently - another of my favs, it sounds better more disgruntled, but too short. was hoping for the 06.21 version of Recently with Butch, but the solo was being saved for later.

Sugar Will –is hands down thebest songout of the four new ones. This song excites me more than than the other three put together with regards to the new album. Musically it’s just so far ahead. Much more creative and innovative. It isn’t uptempo, fast or loud, people don't understand. i got into this more than any other song. The other three new songs are good, esp. Hello Again. but this one, the rhythm is just out of control. I want to hear this song every time I attend a dmb show. Carter will get into it more in the future hopefully.

5 favorites last nite.
~Sugar Will, DIDO, Grace, Thing, DDTW

Drive In Drive Out - Enough said. The one song I came to hear.
Grace – Stefan was cool. Dave/Boyd hillbilly thing, they were having a blast and so was everyone at the end.
Thing – all I can say is yeah, yeah, yeah, thankyou, thankyou, thank you.
Fool to Think – great live. During Carter’s solo, one of his drum heads broke or maybe something was loose I believe, b/c the guys came by and it seemed his solo was stopped way too short after only too quick sequences.
Two Step - then Nancies. can’t get any better than that.

I went to the first night with my girl and we had an amazing time. Got there at like 2 and they turned us away so we just went and chilled in a parking lot. Went back at 3:45 and got in. We just hung out drinking and smoking for a few hours having a great time. Went in to see one of the most amazing guitarists I've ever seen. When Keller closed with Freaker, I thought I was gonna lose it. So freaking awesome. BOWA was a great opener and totally blew me away. Both enjoyed Crush for obvious reasons. The new songs were all pretty awesome (Sugar Will I thought was boring, though). Loved the Rapunzel closer even though I thought there would be one or two more songs. Everyday was a nice song to hear and Ants always makes me go nuts and we were dancing like crazy. Then we got out of the parking lot in less than 5 minutes. Great night. Great weekend. Thanks DMB.

wow...that was an amazing show last night. i cant say how much i loved it. the set was UNBELIEVEABLE and the crowd was on fire as well. tailgating was crazy too. we actually had one of those hanicapped busses run over our football and it was like nothing ever touched it...still hard as ever, no air leaking out...

what would you say: I love this song and is a very good opener. lots of entensity while playing it, and it was awesome
song that jane likes: first time i've heard this live. wow. i just liked this song before tonites show, now i love it. dave was awesome during this...just an amazing song/performance
too much: good as always, amazing version, and one of my favorite versions i've heard of this song
recently: man i love this song and was hoping for it and got it...great version, always a treat hearing it.
sugar will: holy shit... this song just keeps getting better and better. dave went crazy at the end doin the yelling stuff...amazing
if i had it all: decent song, crowd was great during it wihch made it even better and made me like it even more
dont drink the water: great song as always, love the dave scat towards the end and the prelude stuff he sang at the end...not a fan in the middle of a set, but i'll take it wherever
hello again: wow...best version to date, unbelievable....just wait until you guys hear this, it was great
drive in drive out: amazing song as always, love to hear it and was another favorite of the night
grace is gone: this was my first time hearing the hoedown outro, and that was unreal...i love this song even more after last night...crowd was great during it and stefan's lap steel intro was sweet ass too
joy ride: good as always...all of the new songs keep getting better and better, each night they are better than the last
hmm/thing: i was praying to god dave would play this and when he went for the capo i knew it was coming...amazing song, best to date w/ the band, still cant compare to bonnaroo tho...this could be the next honi honi chant w/ the good night tonite bit
fool to think: great song as always, one of the better songs on everyday imo and daves guitar bits over roi's solo were soo friggin fast, i've never seen him play the guitar that fast.
jimi thing: ummm....wow. if 6.21 was better than cp and the 6.21 version was the best....tonites is the new best. you should have seen dave dance during his scat....it was hilarious. scat was great and the whole song was amazing
crazy easy: great song, and i think my favorite of the new ones. i dont think one will be as good as 6.17, but this was damn close and a great song
two step: finally!! this song was amazing last night...the entensity, the end jam was monstrously good. dave strummed the ever loving mother shit out of this song and was a huge highlight...this was as good, if not better than cp, just take out butch's long new york solo thing...amazing song as always

dancing nancies: i was never expecting them to bust this out during the encore. great song and the crowd was so into it...i was diggin this and another higlight of the show
stay: honestly i didnt care if they played this as a closer tonite coz its a damn good song. crowd was sooo into it, great song to close the set

this whole show was a higlight...amazing crowd as always....you guys have to pick this up when its ready to download....amazing show, best on paper set to date and the entesity was there the entire show....i walked in loving dave, hardcore fan, walked out as dave being my new god....great show.

At the risk of offending someone, I felt like the only normal person in the place last night. Haha. Just because I happened to be surrounded by people getting fucked up. I don't get how it helps you enjoy the music, because I enjoyed it fine. I wish people would get all the beers they're gonna drink before the show starts instead of walking in and our of the row. I got beer spilled on my feet both nights. Haha. There were these girls behind us that looked like they would fit in better at a Britney Spears concert, and they kept switching seats and getting in trouble with security and screaming really high pitched and it was fucking annoying. LoL. WHY do people have to throw their freaking beer bottles in the parking lot. We walked over a ton of broken glass to get to our car both nights....... the fuck? I felt like the only normal person there. Did anyone else see the guy with the "FREE KISSES" sign? I don't think he was giving out any because he never stopped walking. I was supposed to meet up with somebody from Ants and knew what kind of car he had so I could look for him. That would have been extremely difficult. I was in the lower lot the first not and the upper lot the second and this person's car could have been in either one. Pluh. I don't know... I don't drink or smoke, and that makes me feel soooo out of place. Hahahaha. I still want to go to the Gorge next year.

Oh yeah and last night this guy sitting next to me went to get beer during Recently and came back at the end of Sugar Will and he goes "What was the name of that fucking song? I wanted to shoot myself." The new songs were neat the first night but got on some nerves the second time.

Good reviews guys. Really great show. Jimi Thing (and Two Step for that matter) rivaled CP. I PRAY there's a video of this show. As mentioned, Dave was nuts during Jimi Thing and whole band was on FIRE throughout the show. Probably the most energy I've seen at a show, and I've been to a few in my day ;) Just a quick note because I didn't see it posted. If I remember correctly, Nancies went right into Stay, so it could be considered a seque I think.

I definitely am. Well, obviously since I had front row in the pit.

Just a side note, I was had a perfect angle to see backstage and I could see Dave's kids. I know there was already a thread about this, but I just thought it was so cool. They had their big yellow headphones on and whoever was holding them (?) was dancing with them. They seemed like they were having as much fun as their dad. I just thought that was so cool and it made the night just that much better.

The shows were a lot of fun. The only bad thing that happend was when me and some friends walked to the gate, and i noticed one of my friends throwing a huge bag of pot onto the floor in front of security and he got taken away. He snuck back into line and got to enjoy the show still, but i also lost a lot of pot. Half was mine :-/ haha. I was the INSANE kid laughing about it at first.

Second night was also a lot of fun. I went with a different group of people and it was cool. I had on The Dead tye dye. Anyone see me? :p haha. I was lookin for Ants, but I didn't know what to look for.

I'm tempted to get tickets to Hershey but I don't know if my boyfriend will be up for it, just because of money and his inability to get comfortable and really enjoy the concert. On ther other hand, he does enjoy the music, said he would like to go again sometime, and that he would have preferred to be on the lawn so he could relax, and also he's been wanted to go to Hershey, PA for a while. I might ask him about it. It's on a Saturday, conveniently... well, home from a great weekend :)

highlights from night 1: warehouse had a different jam (like towards the end of last year)...R&R was pretty intense, great to hear. help myself was good, carter rocks. dave started to sing parts of #36 (saw you standing there in the corner...) then went right into ants, snare and all RR style. not a long #36 jam before ants, but it was very cool. all the new stuff sounded great, the songs seem to be getting more set lyrics and defined parts. SMTS-->ASTB-->PNP-->Rapunzel was INSANE. people were flipping out. BOWA was the coolest opener (besides seek up), and i called it :)

night 2 was one of the best shows i've seen. fucking amazing. when dave came out to introduce keller, he was dressed old school - in pajama pants and a dirty old t-shirt. he looked great. i aws hoping he'd play like that, but he didn't. OSW was a bit different with the intro, with the whole band taking a small solo....then pretty girl and a few take me to the rivers.....very cool performance. DDTW was intense. on sugar will, butch took a solo that i haven't heard on any of the previous performance, very cool. roi rocks. still seems like they have trouble figuring out how to end it though. thing was really cool. i was so excited to hear it, and i think that's my new favorite out of the new stuff. and then there was Jane - cool cool song to hear live. Jimi scat was hilarious. dave was up there having a conversation with himself. i think he called himself a fish a few times :lol and he kept saying he sounded like Beck. so gald two step came out to close - butch didn't take as long of a solo as he usually does, but damn, carter was hot shit on this one. then the encore - nancies to start it off - totally unexpected - everyone went ape shit when he said lost somewhere in PA. all during two step and nancies i couldn't even hear myself yelling it was so loud.

great weekend, met up with some real cool ants. gave tom the weekend of his life, even though he now thinks americans are insane. god save the queen! give her some oreos ;)

i must say though, that you pittsburgh people are a fucking crazy breed. cleveland partys and stuff, but you guys are rowdy. but it was all fun :)

What Would You Say
Song That Jane Likes
Too Much
Recently

for some reason...that reminds me of the beginning of a 2000 show in fact im pretty sure...what would you say, song that jane likes...were the first 2 songs of a show that year.

WWYS and STJL actually opened up for the Three Rivers show in July of 2000. I felt like I was at my 1st show again

I hear the lawn at Hershey is horrible and unless you're 7 feet tall you can't really hear anything. Think I could still get seats through Ticketmaster?

I beg to differ.. I was there lastyear. Sound was great, SET LIST was one of the best of all time, check it out. 22 min opener seak up, #41, Watchtower, Jimi Thing.

I was in the so called "lawn" just open ground, no grass to stand in. It's not jammed packed and I'm only 5'9 and I could see everything. I would go if I were you. I'm going on vacation, that's why i'm not going

I agree with joeyfine...outdoor shows are way better than indoor. And money...I had two great tickets for Saturday in Pittsburgh and sold them to make up for a car bill...regreted it big time. Sunday was cool but should have went for both...won't make that mistake again.

Regarding the Hershey lawn seats, I'm the one that made the comment about having to be 7 foot tall to hear. I just had a bad, first DMB show (Hershey 2001) experience and I'm bitter about it... I heard there was a lot of people complaining though...simply, the music just wasn't loud enough. Hershey staff blamed it on DMB stage crew, DMB said take it up with Hershey. Oh well, last year's show more than made up for it. Ok, I'm over it! :)

Have fun whatever you decide to do!

I live here in Hershey and the lawn isnt too bad, I always sit in the seats, I went in 98 and it was chaos and since then its alot better. The sound was alot better last year.

Did anyone else notice Dave sings "I farted" in the opening to Two Step. Its around the 1:40 mark. I didn't notice it at the concert, but it definitely sounds like it. Kinda funny huh?

Okay, someone said they wanted this thread to stick around til next year. :lol So post in it.

Anyone else see extremely bad dancers at Starlake? Now I can't dance, but I don't try to anyway! Night two I was in the back half of section 7, row Z to be exact. In front of me was a blond girl with her boyfriend. They were high (and I know because the joint eventually came to me, and I declined because that thing had been in half a dozen other mouths and that's just fucking nasty) and dancing wildly during Jimi Thing. The girl looked like she was either doing aerobics or attempting to fly away. Seriously she was flapping her arms up and down like a chicken. And then somewhere around the middle of row Y there was a really skanky looking girl grinding against her boyfriends crotch the whole time, and dancing like that during - I kid you not- Grace Is Gone. She looked ridiculous. Nobody else was dancing! And there's her dancing against her boyfriend with her arms goin all over the place. Oh man.. it was funny.

I dunno. They seem to have more energy during the early part of the tour and the last leg of the tour. Whenever I see them mid tour (late July- early August) they seem a little more worn down. Not to say that they play badly, but they just lack that little extra umph. So I'm rooting for an early show at PGP.

That is what I like about Starlake being the last weekend of June always. It's a couple of weeks in so they've warmed up but they are still excited to be out on the road. It's still a thrill. The end of the summer you'll get songs that you didn't get to hear at the beginning, but the energy will probably have died down by then.

They played in august of 02, but that show wasnt all that good...There was a definate lact of energy, but the june shows are great.

look at the 2003 tour for example. in the beginning of the tour, last stop, dreaming tree, pay for wat you get, and you never know were common. they disappeared in the second half in favor of spoon, BOWA, recently, etc. there were some great shows in the second half, setlist and energy wise. last year, for example, we missed the little john outro on too much because that didn't start until later. also, carter's drum solo on hello again was non-existant at starlake, compared to second-half shows. i've never been to a bad show, but i'd like to see a second-half show this year.
