I Did It and Too Much (among others) always get bashed in here. Both were played at Merriweather and I enjoyed each one. Too Much was really good. Lots of energy from the band and passion in Dave's voice. He was singing all these lines toward the end of TM. I couldn't understand a word, but it was cool.

you aren't reading what i am writing:

they have done r&r > thing at every show as far as i can tell. the road page has put the > in sometimes and not other times.

all i am saying is don't rule it out just because they didn't put it on the road page. you are probably right, they probably didn't do smts > astb > r&r, but with this band, nothing is certain.

heck, there were intros last night to songs, but they aren't listed on the setlist pages either... basically, there isn't too much consistency on their part, so don't rule it out yet.

umm... it is great. There doesn't have to be numerous debuts or rare songs for a show to be great. Besides, we're not there, we can't judge the show.

Cut and paste what you wrote in the Merriweather page to all those bitching about the setlist who aren't even at the show. That was priceless!

watchtower?

interesting. i have the strange reason that a fan met dave and asked for that to be played... that's my thought, but we'll never know... unless you see a "WATCHTOWER WAS PLAYED FOR ME!!!" thread.

i hope it keeps taking a break, along with #41 and two step. people keep asking for these, but i'd rather hear typical. minarets, liog, blue water, raven, and ynk back in the sets more than those. ANYday.

people who say this set sucks because IDI and FTT were played need to check out some recordings from this year. those two songs have been FULL of energy and got the crowd going at the 5 shows i've been to so far.

i'll actually do the research, and report back

The point is, there is an average of two ED songs a show. And that will likely never change. So if you're going to say a set sucks because of that, you might as well say that 95% of shows the past 3 years have sucked, and that the majority of setlists from now until the end of time will suck.

Same here, all day at work today I was pissed cause I knew I was going to miss the show tonight. Plus I was half-asleep cause I got home at 2:30 last night and had to be at work at 8 this morning.

haha, i was the guy with the green polo shirt/jeans standing next to girl with the sign that said, "carter i want your wood" (which he pointed at and waved a stick at her at the beginning, but then security took the sign and carter forgot i think).

i also saw carter try to give halloween 21 a stick, but the guy with the stupid "got bubbles?" shit ripped it out of his hand. and for a side note, the bubbles were ok, but you do you really think dave is going to care if your girlfriend is blowing bubbles?(he kept pointing at dave and the bubbles and the girl. weird)

According to the Warehouse Crew....

Another great show in Hartford tonight. You might have noticed, on the real-time set list, names for the new songs. Today the band decided to start listing the new songs by their working titles, although they may change with time. The set flowed well and the excitement of the crowd was noticeably appreciated by the band. We are heading into a couple days off before our shows in Camden on Tuesday and Wednesday. We'll see y'all then.

who else smelled that? dave obviously did- jimi think scat, i picked up: "holy stinky funky man what the hell is that?" i talked to some woman who said she talked to a cop who said that it smelled like a dead human carcass that hadn't been found- decent show- nowhere near as good as night 1- highlights were watchtower, extended snare intro to ants, the hilarious jimi thing scat, too much was good, as was warehouse- wouldnt have minded recently, LIOG or pig- the guy sitting in front of me made my night: after i called grey street (they brought out the 12 string, duh), he kept asking me when they were gonna play what you are- i told him maybe on the encore because he was so annoying- when they started to play watchtower, he was so upset about not getting WYA that he got up and left- too funny.
all in all, a good two night run- here's to not having to go back to hartford again (msg in the winter cough cough)

well i got home a little while ago. birthday show tonight :) 3rd row. i had a sign that said "20th b-day, 28th DMB show, First Drumstick?" so its time for Carter to give out the sticks, he sees my sign, comes over to me points, tosses the stick, someone tries to grab it from me, it falls to the floor, the security guard picks it up, and gives it to some bitch about 10 people down. carter sees this, looks at me, shakes his head, points to me and says happy birthday. i go up to girl and ask for the stick nicely and she tells me that she doesnt believe its my birthday. she tells me to ask the security guard if i could have it and he wanted nothing to do with it. everyone standing around was telling her to give it to me. she wouldnt. i hope she dies basically. she's a bitch and everyone around said the same thing. if you're the girl who was wearing a black tank top and some khaki colored shorts, i hope you have a miserable life. other than that, the night was amazing. i dunno if any of you saw Dave when they first came on stage, he was twisting his hand....yea, that was towards me, my sign was upside down. :lol

Here's a little rundown:
So Much To Say -- Nice opener. Cool to hear this by itself without ASTB following it for a change.
Rhyme and Reason -- Almost no break between the songs, which is a rarity for DMB. Great but standard version.
Good Good Time -- What a shitty name for a song. I like Hmmm better. Anyway, it was nice, I am curious to see where it goes...
Warehouse -- Rock. Pure rock. They did the salsa-like jam that was featured on CP which I guess they have been doing this entire year but was cool to hear anyway.
Crash Into Me -- Really wanted to hear this. Dave full-voiced the ending. Awesome song.
Joy Ride -- Aside from the lyrics factor, this is a great live song. This is the kind of stuff they needed to get back to a little bit. To all those naysayers, it definitely has the potential to be better than SUAD, if Dave can write some better lyrics.
Grey Street -- Not too bad, but I'm real bored of this one.
Help Myself -- Great song, but it seems like Carter sleeps through the drum solo now, like he did on CP.
Ants Marching -- I was shocked to hear a full snare jam intro mid-set. All kinds of awesome.
Cry Freedom -- I know they've been playing this, but was a sweet surprise for me. Always a treat.
Hello Again -- This song is so fucking good. Can't wait to hear the recording.
Sugar Will -- This is such a fantastic song but it bores the crowd. I guess people don't want to hear a slow, difficult song (i.e. not instantly catchy like Crazy Easy) that they don't know well or at all. The band may want to shelve this one until the album comes out, but I doubt they will. Which is sort of good, because even if nobody else at Hartford enjoyed it, I certainly did.
I Did It -- Well, after Sugar Will, I can honestly say that the crowd was into it.
Too Much -- Actually kind of a surprise after I Did It, and also really great version. Dave rocked the ending harder than I've ever seen.
Jimi Thing -- Holy shit. Dave freestyling. Holy shit. Amazing.
Fool To Think -- Better than WTWE or Everyday, that's all I'm gonna say.
Rapunzel -- Never saw this close a main set before -- works well.
Crazy Easy -- Tonight's performance really made me think better of this tune, but it still needs real lyrics that do not blow goats. Good live song though.
Watchtower -- I was expecting Two Step, but this was fine. No Fire screams, but Boyd's solo more than compensated. Great stuff.

Very nice show... and my only show of the summer most likely.

I thought it was a great show, here's my review:
SMTS - Cool opener, and surprised to not hear ASTB afterwards.
R&R - Pretty Standard
Thing - I liked hearing it live, but the crowd didn't seem that into it
Warehouse - Wicked awesome. Roi rpiied this one apart during the latin jam. And he played without the shades on this song, which was odd, he kept puttign them on/off all night.
Crash - Decent version, i was a little surprised to hear it.
Joy Ride - Yeah I really don't understand why people are still 'woo'-ing in the intro. Great song live.
Grey Street - Same as every other time i've heard it
Help Myself - Nice to hear, even though we got it last year. Carter's drum solo definately wasn't as energetic last night.
Ants - So awesome to hear the snare intro, always a great song to hear.
Cry Freedom - I was surprised to hear this one, the crowd liked it alot more than last year, which was good.
Hello Again - Kickass. Carter's drum solo was wicked awesome.
Sugar Will - This song still seems really incomplete to me.
I Did It - It happens. And it's not that bad anymore, really. The band had fun with it, and it brought the energy back after Sugar Will.
Too Much - Dave went nuts with the ending, it was so awesome.
Jimi - Fucking ridiculous. Dave scatted about the smell, (which smelled like what would happen if you took a bag of trash and took a shit in it, then warmed it up), that was hilarious. But even better was the call and response with butch.
Fool To Think - Standard.
Rapunzel - Cool closer, they seem to rock out the jam more when they close with this.
Crazy-Easy - The crowd really like this one tonight. Good energy all around.
Watchtower - Wicked awesome. Stefan's bass solo was a little slower tonight, more calculated, but i liked it better that way. The crowd went nuts on this one, and boyd's solo was awesome. I also liked the improv Roi-Butch solo when Roi's earpiece fell out. After the secodn chorus, the band really rocked it out. I couldn't even hear Dave yell 'No reason to get excited"

Overall, a good show with soem great moments. And yeah, the crowd was out of hand. I've never seen so many people falling down drunk on the way to a show, just as a sidenote.

This was my 16th show, and my first Hartford shows, and I must say I had a hard time getting into the show tonight, mostly because of the venue and the people I was around. It seemed like a really big teeny bopper and drunk college frat party to me. Way different atmosphere than I have ever been to at a DMB show. Looking at the setlist in retrospect I would say it was a really good show musically. The new songs are developing well after everynight of play, and it seems like the band is getting more and more into them as each night passes.

I think I will like the show better after I hear it on a CD, and this may be my one and only hartford show, unless I get shell seat next year. We'll see....

I agree with all of ur song assessments except:

Crash - not surprising, played it SPAC night 2
Cry Freedom - not surprising, has been playing it a lot
Hello Again - not as good as Hartford night 1, carter's drum solo was not kickass because it lasted for 7 seconds, but it was kickass at night 1
Fool to Think - standard, but also totally unnecessary, and Crazy-Easy shouldve been played in its spot

^good review IMO. I agree with just about every point. The crowd was interesting as always. On a crowd sidenote my little sister and my friends girlfriend actually saw two kids having sex on the lawn on their way back from the bathroom after Sugar Will (and they weren't kidding...details were shared). I always thought people just joked about that happening at the meadows but apparently people become really CLOSE on the lawn :lol

I'd like to add to the review that Ants was a very good jammed out version. Probably the best I've witnessed live. Many of the songs last night were standard songs but they really played them out to their potential.

Just got back.

First let me say, good grief Hartford is a shithole. Between all the drunk idiots, hot dog vendors yelling inuendos at everyone (man, give your girl a weenie!), horrible traffic and the overwhelming shit aroma, I don't think I'll be going back next year. Our hotel stunk too, and came with such extras as dead bugs, cigarette burns on everything and free porn (well, I guess you need something to get the hooker in the mood). Anyway, besides being in the middle of a filthy venue, the shows were ok. They weren't the best, but they weren't horrible. I was hoping for more. I would write a review, but there really isn't a reason to.

Also, whoever was complaining about the Two Step chants at SPAC, yes, people were chanting for Two Step last night.

Ants and Too Much were both solid rock last night. Awesome times. I retract my statement from a few weeks ago about mid-set Ants maybe being better with the direct intro. Fuck the direct intro. Jammed out Ants is the way to be.

I couldn't believe people paid to park there. I parked in the free lot next to the Jai Lai...there were no cops in our lot, we could do whatever we pleased, and we were closer to the venue getting in and got out of the lot before the Jai Lai. People who parked there got ripped off.

Hey, I was at the show on Saturday. Probably the best show I have ever seen- the setlist was just amazing. The energy was insane, even the people on the lawn rarely sat down. Despite the woman in front of my passing out during the show, it was a great time.
It seemed like the guys kept on addressing some people in the front row. Dave said some stuff to them, shook their hand and did a little jig for them. Stephan even said something to them. Does anyone know who they were?

i got busted as soon as i pulled into jai alai....i was in the ambulance. idk if anyone saw us. they made us poor the majority of our beer out and then told us they had to search the car for nitrous...after that they we parked and everything kind of settled down after that. they were definately cracking down on lots of people this year.

Amazing weekend...night one was better than night two but it was great hearing crash warehouse ants and watchtower in the second night....Hello again is becoming one of my favorites, they play it was crazy intensity...

Was it just me or did anyone want to kill themselves during sugar will....it is a real downer during concerts.....also could have done without i did it and fool to think......but other than that good show

How amazing was it when dave broke two strings during night 1 and still went crazy...he was really having fun out there..

Where in row g were you? I had seat 210 or something like that. I was there with my brother. I had the BYU hat on...I thought the energy down in sec 300 was awesome. Before NERD came on, Carter walked around the far right of the stage a bit, and only people in our sec could see him (don't know if you were there then). I yelled his name and he waved...it was pretty cool.

just got home from sleeping all day on the beach after two days of dmb, and here's my $.02 for anyone who wants it

7/16-pretty standard show (being that the ones in hartford are the only ones i ever see). No songs showed up that I were surprised to see. The highlight for me would have to be Carter's drum solo at the end of Hello Again, eerily reminiscent of what he used to do before Halloween. Got me a little excited with that one. Always love it when they play crush and everyone starts belting out the baaaaaaaaabyyyyyyyyyyyy along with dave, so that was another positive.
7/17-A completely different story. With the threat of rain looming overhead, and lightning flashing over the roof of the pavillion the crowed was getting really pumped. The energy level was amazing right from the beginning, (despite the fact that they didnt go into ASTB after SMTS like i was hoping to hear). I can't wait for the recording of Jimi Thing not only for the scat/ramble at the end (has he been doing that this summer) but because of the pause he put in the middle of the first verse where the rest of the crowed continued singing anyways. I would have liked to see Crazy/Easy somewhere earlier in the show (not because i dont like it, but because i feel it unfortunately took a lot of energy out of the crowed because they didnt know it, and everyone was waiting for a huge encore). A sweet (although short) Watchtower made up for it though. There were a couple of bad moments supplied by crowed though, like the kid next to me who passed out during the second song and they had to get a stretcher to get him out of there. The moron couldnt have been older than 18, and had three people with him it looked like who had wristbands on, so someone has to be the responsible party there. It not only sucked 'cause the kid puked, but because they had to shine the spotlight on him from over the fence which was right in the corner of all of our eyes making it hard to see. I also so that lady who was passed out right in front of the walkway on the right side of the lawn so everyone had to step over her to get out. Effin idiot.
I'm sorry I repeated anything that has been said in here already. I havent read all the posts.
PS. If those people are in here who were standing by the bathrooms up on the lawn it was sweet getting to see Butch sitting by the busses. Thanks for helping my blind ass find him. Getting him to wave back to us was pretty damn cool too.

Two good shows, I enjoyed the weekend. Didn't even have to deal with any of the police/riot issue because we had a room, ended up relaxing watching sportscenter in the hotel bar after the shows! All in all I thought both shows were pretty solid and on a whole this weekend was one of the most fun DMB stands I have done it years. And I realized this was the tenth summer of DMB at the Meadows for me... ten years, I was actually a bit taken back with that... I'm getting old!!

We had 200 B for night one (plus the two girls in the front row were sitting down the whole show so we had a front row view pretty much... too much to drink?) unfortunetly the mess they refer to as 'Will Call' was just a big sick joke this year. I missed like five songs and when I got in line they hadn't even hit the stage yet. What was the problem there, shit took me over 45 minutes in line! There's gotta be a better way....

What was up with these shows being such a tough ticket? I've never seen it thsi bad in Hartford. The couple next to us had paid $1120 for the pair on night one, lawns were going for $80-$100 outside, at least the scalpers union guys were charging that anyhow! and night two was even worse... three people I went up with didn't even end up getting in!

being one of the lucky ones this weekend, we learned from previous years the best and safest places to park ... we ran into no police or riot troubles either night ... now onto the shows ... one word ... AMAZING, my 3 and 4 shows of the summer. I liked breaking out of two songs on the tour during the stop in hartford. when i left hartford on sat night i was so thrilled to be ending me dmb summer tour on a good note ... watchtower ... but i'm now debating tickets for carson ca.

just in case anyone doesnt know the medows is an old land fill and the grass area and the slope of the venue is all because of the land fill so when you get lawn tickets its like paying 45 bucks to sit on a pile of garbage and watch a concert you can barely see

Aight my Meadows peeps... a few quick words before work does this--> :twak to me today!!!

Enjoyed both Fri and Sat a ton! Met Jason (greppson) and Heather (He4ther) on Friday (pic attached). :thumbsup

Sat had a poor start to the evening. I finished up at the family picnic-type thing in time to possibly tailgate... but on the way there my car starting crapping out (like it was gonna stall and the dash instruments went dead... battery/alternator issues I'm guessing). Long story short, it died as I was 100 ft from the lot (right next to a cop). He helped me push it out of the way then was a bit "moody" about getting the thing out of there or else it would be towed. So, no beers before the show on Sat as I worked through all of the logistics to get it gone. Still... 9th row center made up for all of that!!!!!!!!!!!
:bounce

ps Got a ride home from a friend (the one I went with to the concert on Fri).

Edit: That's (l to r) Jason, Heather and me. And I discovered that shirt makes me look about 30 lbs heavier... :freak

Honestly, from my seats (sorry if that sounds like I'm bragging... but anyway) I couldn't really smell anything too "strong". And I love the Meadows!!! I'm sure everyone has their favorite venues for various reasons, but I like my "hometown" concert destination.
