Didn't see one of these up yet; there wasn't one last year until about the month before.
This was one of the least talked about two night stands last year and both nights turned out to be incredible. Night 1 with Nancies -> Typical -> Two Step, and night 2... nearly everything, Ants opener, #41, Jimi Thing w/ scat, Jane, and Spoon -> Billies encore.
Anyways, discuss. :D I'm going to try to be at both nights personally.

I'm interested in going to these shows if SPAC doesn't show up. How is the venue? I asked in another forum, but nobody responded.
It's about a 3 and a half hour drive, so I'm wondering if it's worth it.

It's about a two and a half hour drive for me so I think I'm gonna just catch one night. Maybe two though, you never know. I've never been to Tweeter before so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

going to one show only. cant afford both. if i had to pick, what do you people think. 1st show or second? In 2 night stands in general is one show better than the other?

i know. you really would think that there are NO DMB fans in the area (or at least none these boards). We usually get decent shows. I remember in 2002 (my first concert) at the fleet it was the first time they played YNK. That was pretty awesome. Night one of last summer's show was unbelievable (ants openner, spoon, STJL, so many others), and D&F show at the fleet was where Waste was first played. I think we will be in for a treat. I'll be there for the second show :multi

i know people will say i am retarded but mansfield has a lot of green areas for camping. If it isnt because it is kind of small, i wouldn't have minded the festival there (then again, I am biased. I am only a 30min train ride away).
AJDMB05
03-19-2004, 09:51 AM
19,000 = too small, even for a 2 night festival. I'll venture a guess and say this supposed NYC festival is going to attract many people outside the city. Tweeter sold out really fast last year for a normal show, so a big one would be complicated.
8 days until tickets, and 3 months/2 weeks/a couple days until these shows. :D

Well, I'm not getting anyone's hopes up, but the Flecktones are free from 7-2 to 7-25. You never know. They've got OAR (gag), NERD (ugh), and Guster/Mraz (woo!) already so it's not out of the question...

BUT

15th row. Can't get too much closer than that online.

I don't have the tickets yet.
This is neither fast, nor ticket. Much less TicketFast. Last year I had tickets in my hand literally 5 minutes after I bought them. It's been over 5 hours. Anyone else having this problem?
(P.S: I had them sent to a hotmail account. Screwed?)

i have sat in section 11 row 1 before (which is not under the roof). I thought that wasn't THAT bad.
My guess is that if you are near the front of the lawn, it should not be too bad. just dont get stuck all the way in the back.

i did the same thing...and had them sent to a hotmail account....i had 3 orders, and out of the 3 only got an email for one of them so far, and that came like 1 hour after ordering....but today i got 2 more emails saying that i did order tickets and my email w/ the attachment will be coming soon, sooo i'm hoping it does.
by the way, i'm very very excited for these shows, i didn't get to see the band last year, so it's been almost 2 years! ahh...and my seats are in sec 1 for both nights, which i can't complain about...even so, i still hate ticketmaster.

Yeah, I sent an email to customer service yesterday, and they said they'll have them sent out in 24 hours, and to add customersupport@ticketmaster.com to the list of safe email addresses so it doesn't get filtered (Options > Junk Email > Safe List).
*crosses fingers* I really don't want to have to call them and request another email to send the tickets to...

i really have no idea, but something i would keep in mind is that the tweeter center in mansfield is not really near a big city. so its kind of isolated. dunno if many scalpers make their way there.
this is just me speculating. don't hold me to it. i don't have tickets yet. i am def. going to try to get my hands on tickets beforehand.

I was going for a single ticket each night (and started with the second show first...so I'd have a better ticket the last night). I was pretty happy with what I got. Should be a great two night stand. Last years 2 night stand was one of the best of the summer IMO.

Never been to Mansfield but going to the shows in July. Does anyone know how the view is from the outer edges of sections 1 & 3? Hard to tell from the seating chart if you'd have a good view or not. Any help would be appreciated.
AJDMB05
04-28-2004, 06:01 PM
After this year I'll be able to write a book on the view from the outer limits of the front-side sections. Last year I sat in Section 3, Row EE, about 22-25 rows back and 2 seats from the outer aisle. The sound was incredible, but the view of the stage was slightly limited. I couldn't see the stage and I couldn't see Butch. This year I'm in the same section, only slightly farther inside, and 10 rows up. I'm assuming the angle to the stage is sharper, and I still won't be able to see much of Boyd's side, since they stack equipment on that side a lot.

Anywhere down in sections 1-3 is really good. It's a great place to see a show... even the lawn is pretty good. I sat in what they used to call the Gold Circle (which is about the 20th row) back on 8/31/95 and it was amazing. Then I have sat in section 9 and section 13 and the lawn for a bunch plus other bands. All in all, a great place to see a show. The traffic sucks getting out of there though. I suggest bringing a habachi and grilling up some food after the show, because otherwise you end up sitting in your car for well over an hour before you leave the lot.
Have a good time! I'll be there night two!

I don't know about last year getting the best shows. With a little better placement in the setlist and a little less voice problems from Dave, maybe. You can't ignore some of the earlier two night stands before they stopped playing stuff like YNK, Minarets, Dreaming Tree, Last Stop, etc.
For all intents and purposes... 2 monthish left :D

Ahh mansfield...never seen dave there, but saw radiohead's opening night there last year on the "lawn" (dirt). Amazing show, but that's neither here nor there. Saw green day there the summer before with seats, and that was a good time too.
Only problem is, I'm in boston without a car. Does anyone know if there's a train/bus/some other form of trans. that goes down to tweeter for shows?

I love seeing this thread bumped. 6 weeks from tomorrow :)
I don't think there's any sort of public transportation that goes to the venue, it's a little remote. The lot is pure hell if you're not fast after the show, so if there was public transportation in and out that would avoid the use of a car, I think more people would use it. The best thing I can suggest is research busses in the area and see which can get you closest to the venue (I know there's hotels in the very immediate area) and just walk from there.

Alright I just got the days off from work now so I'm def going to these shows. I've never been to this place before so any suggestions would definitely help. My biggest concerns right now are how is the lawn? Do I really want to go after inside tix? Also how about camping near by? I'd rather not spring for the hotel if I can sleep under the stars somewhere close by. Also how it the partying? Any comments on these or any other subjects would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I live an hour away and my friends and I are just going to hang out for all of Tuesday/Wednesday and drive up to the shows at night from Rhode Island.
The lawn has been pushed back a lot to accomodate open air seating. So if you're on the lawn, get used to looking at the screens, because the overhang of the pavillion makes it a narrow field of vision to the stage. No idea how the sound is, but the people on the lawn are so chill that it'll possibly make up for the distance to the stage. :thumbsup Massachusetts DMB fans.
Camping, I have no idea, I never really considered Great Woods the camping kind of venue, it's no Deer Creek or Alpine or Gorge.
The lot is awesome, the people are all so great. You have your small share of drunken assholes, but it's a big lot, and when the sun is setting, there's nothing like walking through the lot and hearing all the tunes blast and the grills firing up and OH MY GOD IT HAS TO BE JULY RIGHT NOW.

Me and my buddy are camping in Foxboro. All of the sites we check in Mansfield are already booked. Apparently we only have a 5 or 10 minute drive (no traffic of course) to the campgrounds, so that doesn't suck. We'll be there bright and early on the 6th to get the party started. :)

Ahh mansfield...never seen dave there, but saw radiohead's opening night there last year on the "lawn" (dirt). Amazing show, but that's neither here nor there. Saw green day there the summer before with seats, and that was a good time too.
Only problem is, I'm in boston without a car. Does anyone know if there's a train/bus/some other form of trans. that goes down to tweeter for shows?
you can take the commuter rail down to mansfield. Last year i took the commuter rail, then someone met us there and gave us a ride to the tweeter center (5min ride). This time i am probably just gonna take a cab. should not be more than $10.
hope that helps.

Damn! You beat me to it. I <3 this thread.
Speaking of which but not at all, I saw moe. Friday night in Boston. The hardcore moe. fans said it was average or below average, but I had a fucking blast. If you haven't listened to moe., you should. Their concerts are still reasonably priced; $29.50 + a $8.50 service charge from those money-grubbing bastards at ClearChannel. When the service charge is nearly 30% of the actual ticket price, it's time to start making heads roll.
Irregardless, the shows in Mansfield are the next two for my summer concerts. Really hoping for a bust-out or two.

Argh. Well, considering I made this thread and I've seen most of the people around the board who replied, I might as well put this here. I'm not at home, I'm posting from a relative's house, because Ants is unaccessible at home. I can get to everything but the forum all of a sudden, started the morning of the 19th. Stuff just hangs until I get a 404 error. I can occasionally get to a thread, but I can't log in and I can't register something new. It's not a problem with my account, and I can get to every other site I normally can get into.
So yeah, if anyone's got any advice or whatnot, let me know. I emailed Matt and he said it's the Google ads, which it isn't, Nancies has them and I can post there fine.
More or less I'm just checking in to remind everyone that Mansfield is 2 weeks and 2 days away. :D

Oh man.. SO PSYCHED :D
A word of advice from shep @ Nancies:
One of the perks of "building yourself an HQ" is that other folks can find you. Helium balloons, a flag, or just a strangely colored tent/tarp is enough to make you "spottable" from farther off. Try to get away from doing the same thing that many other folks do, i.e. "I'll have a red balloon tied to my antenna," mainly because other people usually think of doing the exact same thing. Try something a little more off-the-wall to make yourself easier to spot.
Have a good show. :)

The only difference is the Premier parking lot, the one that gets let out first at the end of the night. But it's secluded and sort of fenced in by trees. So that's a no-go for the lot scene. You'll know it when you see it, it's generally all up and down the aisles. The real heart of it all is maybe 50 yards away from the entrance, where most people park. The more people parked the more "scene" there is.
And the party, my friend, is everywhere. :multi :multi :multi :multi :multi

Hey, if there's anyone looking for 4 tix together Wednesday night (7/7) [Sec. 12, Row A seats 37-39] I have them on eBay, but if anyone here wants them let me know ASAP and I'll pull them from eBay. Just face and CC.com charges of course. I'll be there bright and early we can just meet up before the show. But if you want them I need to know NOW so I can stop the eBay auction. Would rather see them go to someone here. If you reply tomorrow [Friday, 7/2] email me at Metallinut_one@yahoo.com. But the auction ends tomorrow [I did a 1 day] so hurry hurry hurry.
These shows are gonna be awesome. And I'm tailgating from 1:00 on both nights so craziness ensues. I was thinking of bringing my guitar, but who knows. See you all there!

Yeah the four I have for sale are Clear Channel. Only weird thing is that out of the four, one of them has a different font than the other three. The printed serial number on the back is consecutive though, so maybe they came out of a different printer or something. Nice hologram though, so they seem official...

Hey so I sold the 4 tickets I had (through antsmarching too!). Now I've got something else to sell.
I've got 1 ticket to Premier parking for Tuesday (7/6) that I don't want to use.
I'm planning on tailgating and the ticket says that the lot opens 3 hours before the show (4:00) and I plan on being there before then. Plus I like hanging out in the lot afterwards [don't have work the next day]
But if you're going and don't want to take forever and a day to get out of the parking lot you can have this for $25 [$5 off face]. Give me a call on my cell (JP) (781) 710-5865 if you want it. I won't be able to check the forum or my mail until after the show. If not I'll just see if I can get rid of it in the line of cars coming in...

Every show this summer will be taped. They're usually released within the week after the show on the SHN server here, even though that's running pretty slow now. Just keep checking AM's downloads section, you'll know it when you see it. Don't ask for it until 2 weeks after the show though, that's a rule no one follows.

Still don't know how i am going to get back from the tweeter to the commuter rail in time to make the last train but i'll cross that bridge when i get there.

Sometimes parking isn't that bad and sometimes it is, if you are in a rush and want to leave in a hurry, you can pay 30 bucks for premier parking and they let these cars out first.

So true...but hopefully no baseball rumor chants at this show. People in my section at D&F started the "we got A-rod" chant, since on 12.16 the deal looked likely, and tricked us into believing we'd missed some breaking trade story...but we all know how that one turned out

I'm at work now, so I honestly don't know where our seats are. They're not lawn, so that's all I was concerned about. No more lawns for me after having to stand next to the peeing girls at Camden last year.
Is the Tweeter Center in the middle of nowhere (like Hershey) or IN the city (like the Meadows)? I'm debating getting a cab there and just walking (if it's in the city).
I still have no clue what to expect in Mansfield. Never been there. City? Town? Ghetto? Big field?

Mansfield is nice, I would compare it to Saratoga (although not as wealthy). The venue is on a long road like route 50 in Saratoga although a little less busy (at least where we went in last year). The venue is kind of in a wooded area not as much as SPAC but certainly not in the middle of a city like the Meadows. The town is nice, not ghetto at all and provides a nice setting for a venue and is really easy to get to. Last year when I went I was very pleasantly surprised and am happy to be going back. There are however some really obnoxious people there so watch out for that. The tailgating scene is really kind of sad though-especially compared to the Meadows.
The venue itself is kind of odd because they have seats on the "lawn" and the lawn is really small. I thought the accoustics last year were very good as well, especially under the roof.

Parking is a crapshoot, you could get out early (I live nearly an hour away and I was home around midnight with an end time of 10:45) or you could sit there for an hour. There's premier parking, but it's sort of expensive and not worth it unless you really need to get out of there to get somewhere the following morning.
BustedJeff
07-05-2004, 09:18 PM
An hour? That's nothing. At Camden, it took nearly 3 hours to get out.

Took me 1:15 to get out of there last year. I think it's because the far left lot is behind the premier parking area and they keep letting them out and nobody from the back. Pretty crummy set-up they have.

I've always thought the tailgating was much more fun at Mansfield. People there seem to have an all around good time each year. I go to the meadows each year as well and it's a great time some years but it's almost like some bizarre competition to see who can gain the most party status pre-show instead of people who go to just have fun. Not to mention I feel a lot more at ease leaving my car in any parking lot other than the lots in Hartford.

Seriously, Mansfield is a very cool town. For those of you who don't know what to expect, it's nothing out of the ordinary. I've never been through the main part of town, the ampitheater is basically right off the highway. As said before, the venue is basically self-contained, and removed from the town. You'll see when you get there.
