Hey guys, I've never been to a show in VA but i'd really like to go this summer. Can anyone give me information about this place? Anything would be helpful. I think Bristow, VA is about 4 hours from my house so i wouldn't need a hotel or anything... Just want info on the scene and how good the shows are. Thanks..

I've been there the last two years and its an awesome venue. beautiful surroundings, (hills and such) tailgatings cool, securities not too much of an issue. pray for a good spot in the parking lot cuz last year it took us 2 hours to get out of there, and we got out a lot sooner than others did, so you might wanna check out a campground or hotel. 4 lots and only 1 exit equals a longass wait. as for the show quality, expect a good one. 2002 we got nancies--->warehouse for the first time since god knows when. and this past tour we got recently(down by the river) which was AWESOME, STJL, Help myself, and Cry Freedom and a Johnny Cash cover, Fire or or somethin like that. only bummers were a #40 tease which pissed me off real bad and he closed w/What you are both times. Cya there bro

Been there for about 10 shows, 3 of those DMB. Make sure you arrive well before the show starts, traffic is usually not great. I've never sat on the lawn during DMB, but I've always had cool people around me under the pavilion. Parking is a little weird, you may very well have to wait a few hours to get out, though it depends on where you park.
The venue itself isn't directly near much, Bristow is small... and driving through you wouldn't think a huge pavilion was nearby.
Last few shows have been pretty good. In 2002 Dancing Nancies full band returned... last year was a solid show including a Ring of Fire and 40 tease, but the WYA closer kinda ruined some of what was a great show.
It's the closest of a homecoming show as DMB plays, so I always get my hopes up too high. It's only an hour or two away from Charlottesville if you wanted to visit... which I think would be worth doing. Though if you're coming from up north you'd have to go down further to get to Charlottesville then come back up.

i went to nissan last year, and will be going again this year. it was amazing, although i was on the lawn, the show was nice. i think just the fact that the show is in VA, dave trys to make it special, being his home state. he played ring of fire, played recently for the first time in a while, and didnt drown the show with a bunch of ED songs, but had a badass WYA. he also teased #40, which drove me crazy, i wanted to cry. the pavillion is nice, i wish i was under it, i will hopefully be this year, but the sound is good everywhere. good tailgaiting before and after the show, so all around, its a good venue. you'll have fun.

Thanks a lot for the info. Sounds like a great time. I'm almost 100% sure that i'm going, I need to find out who with though. The sets were good, I'd be excited to even hear a #40 tease, but a little pissed off. I'm waiting to hear it. If that festival actually happens, I'll probably go to that.. it'd come before VA. If i did make a trip down there though I'd def. hit up Charlottesville. I've been planning to do that aswell for a while now. Thanks again for lettin me know what the scene is like. I'm excited for the show!

I went last year and sat in the front row on Boyd's side and got a drumstick. :) That part was great, but yeah, it took a long time to get out of the lot!
The show was good, and it was obvious that the band wanted to put on a nice show for the "hometown" show. (Although didn't Dave call VA Beach a hometown show? Nissan is closer to Cville though.) Nothing fancy, but we got the Ring of Fire tease since Johnny Cash died the day before, and a #40 tease because of a sign.

I've been the last two years. They are pretty good shows with pretty good energy. Last year's Ants Marching kicked ass. The venue is nice but the parking is a bitch and the cops can get a little harsh.

i sat front row w/ kristin about 4 seats closer towards dave. pretty much everything has been covered...traffic in and out was terrible. plan on staying somewhere nearby (i have friends in alexandria about 30 mins away). by the time you got rolling on a 4 hour drive it might be 1 or 2am. last year, for example, it took us about 1.5 hours to get in from the highway and 15 mins to get out. but i parked in the big lot for the pearl jam show last year (i was almost first into the lot because i had to get my fan club tickets) and it took close to 2 hours to get out. good shows there...

I have been the past two years to the Nissan show since the venue is no more than 15 minutes from my house. The parking really sucks, it took us about 2 or 3 hours to get outta there. Charlottesville is about 2 hours or so down Route 29 and the drive there isn't bad at all. Make sure you bring cups with you if you are drinking. Let me know if you need any info about the surrounding area or directions down to Charlottesville.

In general, how long does it take to get into the venue? I'm staying with friends that live in Manassas, and they claim its only about 15 minutes away... but 2 years ago I missed Crush because of traffic getting into the venue in West Palm Beach, I don't think I can deal with a repeat of that :(
Oh, and my other question... since I'm gonna be in the DC area that week anyway, is it worth going to the show in Maryland? I've heard awful things about the venue and I'm running out of food money because I keep buying these tickets....
PS- I got seats yesterday for nissan- section 103 row P- who needs the warehouse???

I live in Manassas and your friends are right. If you get to Nissan a few hours before the show and enjoy the tailgating you will not have a problem. Getting out after the show is the part that sucks. I live so close and it took me a few hours to get home! I don't know much about Merriweather but I am going anyway and I will be sitting center section row AA. If anyone needs a single for Nissan, I have one from Ticketmaster Section 103 Row F. I bought this single and was checking again later on Ticketmaster and found another single ticket in Orchestra 3 Row K so needless to say I won't need the Section 103 single anymore.

Hey everyone
I'm staying this summer pretty close by in Alexandria, VA, but without a car  Does anybody have any info on buses/shuttles that might be going to the concert? Metro goes out to Centreville somewhere near Dulles Airport I think, but is there anything better than that? I'm definitely trying not to have to take a cab from anywhere, especially with all the stories about post-concert shitty parking. Thanks for the help

ok I'll add my two cents about nissan. first the parking, as many people have stated before it sucks. PLAN on being there a while after the show. took me about 1.5-2 hours to leave the lot after the show last year. luckilly, i had some leftover food and just grilled while we waited. since the lot traffic was barely moving i could literally pick up my grill and walk with my car everytime we moved 2 feet. also, bring lots of music. remember, there is only ONE entrance, and ONE exit from the venue..it makes for a long wait in and out. get there early..i missed a good part of the 02 show because of traffic coming into the venue.
next is tailgaiting. i've never had too much of a problem, but remember this is VIRGINIA. sorry chris (wooly8) but it's true, va cops can be assholes. :) just be careful, bring cups, and don't be a drunken idiot and you will have a good time. the venue itself is fine, the crowd is chill because there is a lot the band's family and friends in attendance. dmb always puts on a solid show.
as far as merriweather..definately go, this show will be the most underrated stop on the tour. they've only played there once (HORDE) and only played MD like 3 times. its going to be crazy. a nice small(er) venue. if you have pavillion seats, you will be money, ive heard mixed feelings about lawn. ok ive rambled on long enougn, see you at nissan!

Ok, so to those of you that have been to the venue before, I have a question: If you were staying in Washington DC (right near the Eastern Market, specifically), how early would you leave to make sure you dont miss any of the show? I'm driving and not at all familiar with the area, although from what I hear traffic is a nightmare. I don't really need to tailgate as I'm taking my mom as a birthday present and that would just be awkward, I just don't want to miss anything at the actual show :)
comeandsee41
06-29-2004, 09:13 AM
well traffic will be considerably less because it's on a sunday. however, some facts still remain, getting in and out is still a nightmare. I would leave yourself a good 2 hours, maybe a bit more. trust me, its better to hang out in the lot with your mom waiting for the show to start, then it is to listening to the show go on while you're in your car waiting in line to park for hours. Yo!
Never miss a show so close to home. I make sure to hit the Va Beach and Manassas shows every year and Nissan has always been the best of the two. It's not the same atmosphere as the awesome RFK Stadium shows, but it's nice. The last two years have been great setlists and when it comes to parking, make sure you get to place by 5 or 6 and you'll be sured not to miss any of Dave. It gives you a lot of time to get through the traffic and get into your spot. But it's easy for me because I don't have to come from the North, so the traffic is a lot lighter. Anyway, I hope you have fun and make sure you get there early! Have a good one!
Jake
PS. To all of you NOVA's, my band "Adam and Jake" will be premiering in Fairfax at Jammin Java on July 19th, check it out. We are supposed to go on at 7:30pm. It's going to be a very short set, but a historic one because we plan to play with Dave Matthews Band one day and how cool would it be to say you saw our first show?

Which part of the parking is the worst? Is it getting out of the parking lot or is it getting to 66? I can imagine getting out of the parking lot is the worst, but once you get out of there is it quick getting to 66 or is traffic awful the whole way?
I gotta drive to Saratoga, NY after the show....gonna be a long night. Anyone have any pointers on where to park to get out quicker(I realize there is no quicklky)?

Also, one more question. I saw on the Nissan site that the show starts at 6:00pm. Usually it says 7 or 7:30. Does this mean the opening band is starting at 6:00pm? What time is DMB going on stage this tour? What time are they finishing?
comeandsee41
07-08-2004, 09:02 AM
jeremyp9699,
anyway you slice it nissan traffic is horrible. the biggest problem is that there is only ONE lane coming in, and ONE lane going out. I'm not really sure what to tell you about where to park in the lot. obviously if you are right near the exit, you wont wait as long. but they fill the back in first so you would have to get there later in order to be closer to the back...which is something i dont really reccomend. either way expect to wait a while after the show..about 1-2 hours. i know, it sucks. the ONE good thing is that the show is on a weekend, so traffic into the venue will be less than in 2002 when the show was in the middle of the week and a lot of people (including myself) missed most of the show because of dam No. VA rush hour traffic. Again, sorry chris but just another reason wy i dont like that state! Still, leave yourself some time.
As far as show time, it appears that they have infact changed it to 7 (for dmb). expect dmb to be on around 7-7:15pm. I'm pretty sure they are doing this because it is infact on a sunday and people work the next day. personally, i like it better. my advice for you driving back to NY...red bull :thumbsup

I was there last Saturday for Buffet, and the worst part is getting out of the lot. Once you are on the road back out to 29 or 66, it's not too bad. Getting to that road is a bitch though.

people who dont attend nissan shows cant really understand the lot situation after the show. it literally is ONE single lane coming in and out. you dont need to go anywhere after the show, you wont be moving for a long time. people bring extra food for after the show to cook cause traffic doesnt move. i did it last year, cooked while we waited. when traffic moved more than 5 inches, i picked up the grill and moved it along side the car. IT SUCKS! i like it better this way, plus its a sunday, and a lot of people have to work. Chris, does nissan/va have a curfew? 2 more days!!! :multi

The saving grace of leaving is that they take that one lane road, and turn the left side around, so it becomes a two lane road on the way out. But it is the only road, so...
And just because it's a Sunday, doesn't mean that they will start early. They will go on the same time as the rest of the shows. 8:15 - 8:30. They won't start an hour early because people have to work. If it's a problem for people to be out a little late, than they shouldn't go.

I think they are starting early. It says on dmband.com and on the tickets that the show starts at 6:00pm. So the band will probably be going on around 7-7:30. Right?

whatever time you think is early enough to get in, come an hour earlier. The last two years I've missed the first two songs and that was with me coming in time to hear the opening act. I'm leaving around 2:00 pm and it's only an hour away.
As for after the show, either you'll get out in 10 minutes or you'll get out in 2 hours...be prepared for either. It's the worse planned place ever!

In 2002 they teased Blue Water in the encore.
