It looks like it's going to be another weekend of crazy camping at sleepybear in late June for me and a few others making the 5 hour trip from wisconsin. You can't beat the camping at deer creek, its right across the street from the venue. I had a blast there last year, nothing like having a few cocktails before the show and hearing sound check, and then going to see two great shows.

Noting that alpine and the gorge are late in the tour I just may have to give Deer Creek a try this year to get my dmb fix. It's a ways out there from me (17 hours according to yahoo) but if I can scrounge up a couple friends it just may work out. I'll stay tuned here for camping info.

Is Sleepybear the best campground there? What's the word on the Verizon campground?

I have only been to sleepybear, and I had a great time there, the owners were real cool and so were all the campers. I have not stayed at Verizon. I think Dead Creek is also a campground thats real close to the venue, so you may want to check their website too.

Do they Allow Tailgating in the parking lot at Deer Creek.. I was there in 2002 and this ass kept harassing us to go into the venue at 4:30 when the gates weren't even opened?? Enjoying the day before show and not spending 8 bucks a beer inside is nice.

Deer creek (before Verizon bought it) used be a great time tailgating, just wondering if its still not allowed? Also, If I do park there, can I just carry my shit to the camping area to tailgate? Thanks, any help on this will be appreciated.

Last year me and my buddies stayed in the parking lot until 7:45 and never had a problem with security. Plus we stayed in the lot until about an hour after the show ended and never had a problem either. I can't wait for this year. My Aunt lets me and my friends stay at her house in Hartford City(free room and board). Does anybody know of any golf courses in the area?
And remember to buy your booze on saturday, Indiana is dry on sundays. My buddies learned that the hard way last year.

this whole price of camping thing is starting to bug me. there's no information on the website, and i have no clue when they'll add that. being on a tight budget, i'd like to know if i can afford to make this trip. i'm not anticipating any high camping fee, but then again, you never know.

did anyone who is posting here stay at Deer Creek last year, and if so, how much was it per vehicle?

thank you very much in advance

Just wanted to say what's up! Count'n down the days!

I just got some great news about the shows this year. I have a good friend who last year went camp'n but wouldn't go to the show 'cause he always thought DMB sucked. I worked on him over the past year and he's come to respect the band and Dave as a singer. He still thinks the band sucks, but he respects them. I just found out he's now willing to go the first night and check them out, and if he has a good time he'll try to pick up a ticket for the next. Victory in mine!!!!!! I know once he sees the band live its all over!!

To whom ever was asking about the camgrounds..
Sleepy Bear: Is private owned and is right across the street from the venue. You can hear the sound check and literaly have a 2 minute walk to the east gate which leads you into the top of the lawn. I have talked to the guy who runs it and he is a cool guy.
Dead Creek: Private owned. I have never camped there but everyone that I have ever talked to has really liked it. They are hassle free.
It is a little bit of a walk from Dead Creek but not to far
Verizon: This is where I camp. It is owned by Verizon and is patroled by VWMC security guards. The only thing that they worry about is nitrous. I work at VWMC as security and I have worked the Phish camping. We are laid back.. I like Verizon cause I walk out of the lawn and right to my tent.
I hope this helps out. If you need more info or have any questions or would like to know how to sneak 'things' into the show just email me.
Cheers,

I don't know about any problems. What I do know, is that when Verizon took over, they didn't want tailgating. So, are you saying if I park in the orange lot, then I can walk over to camp area (with cooler/grill, etc.) and tailgate there? It was a huge buzzkill in '02 when this ass kept harassing us every 5 minutes to go into the venue when the doors didn't even open yet.

yes it did change when verizon took over as clear channel took over as well...
if you park in the orange lot the campground comes right up to the orange lot.. so taking your cooler/grill would not be much of a hassle.
some of the secuity guards there can be dicks as with any venue though.

It is first come first served my friend. If you get there before noon on SATURDAY you can get a spot by the trees. (@ the Verizon Site) Also, if you have a larger group you can pass your ticket out to them and they can get in for free, or compensate you. THe people working there don't care, they get paid the same and the money goes to clearchannel so I don't mind screwing them over. We got 6 cars and a total of twenty people in on one ticket last year. Split $65 20 ways and you get one hell of a deal.

Here is a quote from Verizon Wireless's camping website....

"What can't I bring into the campground?
Non permitted items include weapons of any kind, fireworks, drugs, controlled substances, alcohol, nitrous oxide tanks, and pets."

Whats the deal with no alcohol, last year we accidently camped at an alcohol free campground at Alpine and man did that suck. We almost got kicked out because we got hammered anyway. I have never been to Deer Creek so I have no idea what campground we should stay at.

unless things have changed, the rules really dont apply. Believe me there are plenty of people drinking and getting mangled at Verizon. We were there last year and it was awesome. Although we are camping at Dead Creek this year looking for the more hipped out crowd. B/C Verizon was fun but at about 5:00 in the afternoon the Wrestling team had been cool long enough, turned on some loud ass rap rock bull shit a began to wrestle. They were playing and having fun but it just messes up the vibe for those that would rather chill and talk to new friends. Especially if your mind state is altered slightly, it just makes for a strange afternoon when the wrestling team is cussing and throwing each other around.

I have never been to Deer Creek so I have no idea what campground we should stay at.

well i work there and the no alcohol policy is not enforced at all... the one thing that they really crack down on is nitrous.. so if you do this just becareful.. pot is hit or miss.. i would not just smoke a fat one out where god and everyone can see it.. i have worked there for 4 years and i have worked the campground for phish.. just about everythig goes.. except for nitrous and fireworks.. the security staff is pretty cool they dont really mess with you unless you are being dumb.. if you want to know anything about pat downs at the gates just let me know..

I was just wondering, for those of you that have been to Deer Creek on multiple occasions, how much do they enforce the "no alcohol" policy in the parking lots? I have been to Verizon Wireless in Charlotte and Starwood in Nashville and have had no problems enjoying some beer at either place before and after the shows. Just wondering if the lot at Deer Creek is the same and if not where we can go to do some tailgating beforehand. Thanks

the parking lot is kinda a different story than the campground. They do have security, police, and excise in the parking lot. We have had a lot of problems in our lots before before/after shows. So they may tell you to wrap things up and head on in to the show. I would jsut try to park in the orange lot (gate 3) as the campground is right there and you can just head over and party down.

Actually, it isn't in the middle of no where anymore. Indy is running out of room so they are moving further out of the city. I live in Fishers (only 10 minutes from Deer Creek) and it used to be a corn field. Really sucks though. Deer Creek has always been known for being in the middle of good ole' IN cornfields.

I mainly visit nancies but its awesome to see a Deer Creek thread.

You are the one who said the campsite will be open on the 19th right? I don't mean to doubt you, but could you remind the guy who runs your website to update it to let me and my friends know that we will be able to camp on saturday the 19th. it says you can't get in until noon on the 20th and that it is 75 bucks for two nights. Thank you for your suggestion. I will not rule out opening up the campground up a day early, however we must also take into consideration our show schedule the week prior to and following the Dave Matthews shows. Should we make any changes in our camping schedule, they will be posted on the website as soon as they are announced. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me. Hey Kyle,
I got a couple questions:
Firstly, I'm not camping (I've got an uncle in Anderson so I'll be staying there) but I definitely want to tailgate and stuff beforehand......it seems like people have been implying that you can just walk into the Verizon Campground and hang out with people. Is this true? I've heard that they won't let you into Dead Creek at all unless you've paid, so I just want to make sure I have a place to hang out and party.

Secondly, you work at the venue, so how are you guys about people bringing cameras into the venue? I want to bring a disposable camera at least..... will I be fine if I put it in my pocket, or am I gonna have to crotch it/duct tape it to my leg?

Finally, is there anything else I need to know? Anything at all? You're on the inside, so give me the good stuff (i.e. what hotel is the band staying at, where should we meet at when you give me my backstage passes, etc. :lol ;) )

Thanks,
Dan

Alright,
I have done some searching and asked some questions about the Verizon Camground and what day it will open. It will open on Saturday June 19th at noon. Do not look for this to be up on the VWMC website for a few more weeks. At first they were not going to open up on Saturday because of staffing problems and such. Plus, the big camping days will be for Phish. We as a staff at VWMC get worked figers to the bone when Phish is in town.. So, they were not going to open up until Sunday to keep our staff rested up for Phish. But, they have received several emails and I have talked to them and they will open on Saturday. I may end up having to work 3rd shift in the camground for DMB but I will still be able to go to both shows! :monkey

If you make a lap all the way around you couldn't miss it. I'm not sure, but my guess would be it will be in the same place. I hope that made some sence....

Just drove up to deer creek today, well yesterday, for the blink-182/no doubt show. it was a 4 1/2 hr. drive well worth it though. I was in the pit behind 1 person. So basically in the VERY FRONT! The view was amazing! I am going to the dmb shows as well! Can't wait!

Anyone camping at lakeside??

nutz81
06-02-2004, 10:36 AM
Verizon's camping website says that is discourages people from leaving while their stay at the camp ground. We plan on camping for three nights so I am sure that at some point we will have to leave to get some food, beer, ect... Does anyone know how big of a pain it is to get in and out of their while camping?

open question for those of you who park in the lots at verizon:

generally how long does it take to get out of the lots? is it over 1-2 hours? i've been trying to decide if we should fork up the extra cash for premier parking, or not...

only 16 more days! :)

kfiredanzr
06-03-2004, 11:44 PM
it's never taken me more than an hour...max. i usually ride with the bitches that cut everyone else off and we get out of there in about 20-30 minutes.. even if you are patient, though, it shouldn't take that much longer.
if you really wanna get out of there ASAP i'd say invest in premier parking, but IMO it's fun to sit and watch everyone running around looking for their ride and listen to everyone's post-concert DMB blaring from their cars.

ohhhhhhhh man........it's sooooooooooo soon!!!!!! :multi

thanks for your input...yeah, we don't have a rush to get out, some places are insane... so if it's less than an hour, that will be alright. can't spend too much more with these gas prices!

i really can't believe how fast the time is going!

does anyone think I will recieve upgrades for my tickets? I bought 1 instant for STL and I recieved center row zz (last row in the pavilion), and I bought a pair of instants for deer creek night 1 and I recieved sec. H row Z (close enough to be last row). I am currently bidding on bama works auctions, but I'll probably won't win any. I really think they were doing it by senority because I joined in january this year, oh well...

here is what has happened to me for instants so far (member since 2000);
I got instants for St Louis, Chicago and both nights of Deer Creek about 20 minutes after they went online:
St. Louis--front row center
Chicago--5th row way off to the side
Deer Creek night 1--9th row center
Deer Creek night 2--hasn't been announced yet

hope that helps:)

if they are, they're not doing very good at it...i am a fifth year member and my seats are in the upper pavillion for both nights in indy....one night they're row H and the other they're row V. then again, i got lower pavillion for my other two shows (chicago and n2 of columbus), so who knows.

I'm not 100% sure when I put my bid in for instant tickets, not immediately because honestly I did not think it had to do with timing. Based on your seats, sounds like it might.

I joined during the first few days and my seats at Verizon night one are what third to last row. It's all interesting! I am curious where my 2nd night seats are through instant, they are not posted yet.

That's great you got such greats seats consistently through instant, I've gotten lucky, but normally mine are pretty bad.

I'm deciding between staying at a hotel for both nights or camping. I presume camping is where the party's at, but my own shower and a bed also seems better than sleeping in a tent. Any suggestions one way or the other? Thanks for the guidance.

Hey everyone,
Looking forward to meeting you all at Deer Creek-- unfortunately I won't be able to camp-- (staying in a hotel; not coming to Indy until Sunday afternoon).. but I definitely wanted to try to meet up with as many of you as possible. I'm coming from Columbus, OH.

Anyone know of any pre or post show plans, other than those who will be camping?

Looks like the tailgating situation is a bit of a crappy one from the way this thread sounds, but it'd be nice to meet up somehow in the lots if possible.

Anyways, see you all in a week..

Hey Tracy,

It will be our first trip to Deer Creek. I'm guessing it's going to be about a 7- 7 1/2 hr drive. My mom's the best...I took her to her first DMB show for her 50th birthday two years ago, and she's been a hard core fan ever since:)
