I'll be there too. Last year was my first time attending a show at Hershey and it was awesome. The lot scene wasn't great, but the show was amazing. Seek up opener. I didn't mind the lots, I went for the show! Just giving a little description of last summer.

I am planning on making the 5 hour trek from Hartford. I am looking forward to it but I have heard that Hershey isn't the best place to see a show but the band always puts on sick shows there.

the park will be open this year. so for those of you who thought the lot scene sucked last year, just wait until this year.

I am hoping to get to the park this year. it should be a nice lil break from the world. The lot last year was amazing. I was out in less than 5 minutes from getting to my car. two years ago took me 2 and a half hours to get out.

Maybe if you get GA seats it is hard to hear, I don't know I've always been close to the front in the stands and could hear and see just fine. And a piece of advice to underagers who will be tailgating.....BE CAREFUL, there are always tons of cops patrolling. Some of them you will see, some of them will be plain clothed. ok so by now we're at 3 degrees of seperation.

heres my version of that story:
i once knew this guy that said this one time he heard some people saying they overheard carter whispering to leroi what sounded like a conversation involved steve lillywhite and making an album sometime between the dates of 1850 and 2020 which would include a live recording from 'festival' in the vicinity of california to maine and possibly florida...so you must be in the same boat as me, eh, only your guy you once knew had a little better directional skills, eh ;)

i'm just saying...take what you hear with a grain of salt, especially when it is the same rumor over and over

I'll be coming to Hershey again this year, should be great being on a Saturday. Maybe this year they'll play BOWA and WWYS since they were dropped off the setlist last year due to the noise curfew. It will be really tough to beat last year's gem but gotta keep the expectations up. Plan on getting excellent seats this year on the floor. Just a reminder that with it being a Saturday in June, Hersheypark should be very busy and might cause another year of crazy traffic getting out. I've been going since '01 but never went in the main entrance to park. How is the tailgating situation? I'm looking to enjoy myself as much as possible this year, anyone have any comments.

Here's a question....How many people go into Hersheypark during the day before the concert, or does everyone just party all day before the show. You can't drink in the park, well they don't like people drinking outside the park from what I've gathered from tailgaters. Is it really a big deal for people of age to drink before the show?

I think if you are kinda discreet about it you should be fine, but they do enfore the no alcohol rule more than most places.....and I think if you show tickets for the show that night, you get in to the park for really cheap that day

DMBNate23
02-27-2004, 01:40 PM
Yeah they sell a discounted park price with your concert ticket, I was just curious who takes advantage of that. I actually work for Hershey Entertainment Co. and can get into the park for free whenever, too bad I don't get free access to the Budweiser tent or the VIP area.

i bet security is gonna be pretty tight when it comes to tailgating and stuff w/ the park being open; famlies and stuff goin to the park arent gonna want a bunch of drinking/drunk fans in the parking lot.

01 and 02 had enough people tailgating though and park was open those years.

mikemack8

yeah you can tailgate, you just gotta watch and stay under control

GoLdpHiShDMB
03-01-2004, 05:10 PM
03' the park was closed and there wasn't any tailgating... just kids getting the breathalizer or w/e.

DMBNate23
03-01-2004, 05:40 PM
Yeah it's probably a benefit to have the park open, that way security has to focus on park issues more and not enough on busting tailgaters.

As with some others this will be my 5th straight year attending DMB at Hershey Park. It certainly has its ups and downs in regards to venue and also tailgaiting scene. The venue is not anywhere close to the sound quality you would get at say a Tweeter center (NJ) or Alpine. However the band does seem to put on above average shows when they come into town. I am sure everyone has heard about last year (9-11), but other years, especially 2000, were also awesome. If you have never heard that show I suggest checking it out. As for the parking lot its not as bad as what everyone seems to think. True if you are under age your chances of being caught are unfortunately pretty high. If you are over 21 the worst that could happen would be undercover police may come and ask for your id. Even if you get to the venue early before the parking lot for the stadium is open you can still tailgate where the amusement park lot is. Security is basically the same there with the exception of more bike cops than undercovers. Well hope to see some of you there especially since it seems like a few others will be making the journey from Pittsburgh as well.

Oh I know. I was at Hershey last year too, and when I saw a copy of the setlist, I wished they hadn't cut it. I've only heard BOWA once out of 28 shows (8.5.00 at the Gorge) and I would love to hear it again sometime.

I am so sad..I can't go to Hershey this year! :( I have been to the last...3. My family is going on vacation July 17th for a week and its too close to ask for another day off of work. I do hair, and Saturday's in July are BOOKED with weddings. I'm sure I'm going to get killed for asking for two of them off already. So, forget about Hershey this year. It was always the best place for my boyfriend and I to take a little semi-vacation. I miss everyone from last year's thread! Have fun guys, but nothing can top last years show..I kept saying "this is the best day of my life!" after each song because I couldn't have picked a better setlist out myself!

I AM going to night 2 of Starlake, (it's a Sunday..my day off)..it probably won't compare though..

Ive been to hershey every year since 1999, every show has been fantastic (especially 2000 and 2003)

I also Heard They cut out What Would You Say was supposed to be after cry freedom last year? true? Damn, if they would have played BOWA and WWYS on top of what they already played in 2003, it would have been a 3+ hour show. I think it ran 2:45 and they had to leave the stage after two step because they got fined, or were going to get fined because of the curfew.

Certainly one of the top shows in my mind of last year. I thought the highlight was hearing the improve (scat/ mumble/ whatever you want to call it) on Jimi Thing. Dave's expressions were so animated. If I am not mistaken I believe that was the first time that version of Jimi Thing was played. I know the rest of the summer it was included as well. The version on central park is awesome as well but its tough to beat when you see it live first hand.

hershey's show had to be one of my favorite summer shows (and i didn't even get to go to it). jimi thing did rock.
oh I wasn't disagreeing that it was a GREAT show, just saying that wasn't the first time he scatted at the end of Jimi Thing on that tour

ok hershey is a great venue and all but the thing that ticks me off so bad about it is the DAMN CURFEW. if they didnt have the curfew, the show last september would have been beyond awesome. like a dmb concert is going to wake the geriatric ward in downtown hershey. or disturb the 2 rednecks living down the road whoopdie frickedey doo if the curfew is such a big thing in hershey then they shouldnt have an opening act there and just come out at 7 or 7:30 or just add like 3 dollars to the price of the ticket(to cover the fine) so dave and the boys can play as long they want and we(the money paying fans) dont get jipped. as far as the cops issue goes we should just have krispy kreme turn on the hot donuts sign 2 hours before the concert til about 2 or 3 am so the cops stay out of everyones hair. everyone knows a cop cant turn down a hot fresh krispy kreme donut. :lol :BANG :thumbsup

im there for the music too. however, the sound leaves that stadium very easily and the acoustics suck. ive seen over 30 different acts there, and for some reason it is a very popular venue. I think it is because they can pack an extra 10,000 people in there as opposed to the amphithetre ( hershey has one u know!!). anyway, ill be there if your are looking for people to hang with.

Was just listening to the 2002 show yesterday. I forgot how good it was. Pretty unique setliset. You Never Know, Captain and Kit Kat Jam right in a row. Hershey always takes a bad rap for the sound quality (which unfortunately is not the greatest) but the boys do tend to put on good shows. If anyone else has the '02 show can you hear right before 2 step some guy in the crowd yells 2 step and then boyd starts with the intro? Its kind of funny and almost serves as a good segue into the song.

This show was my first Hershey show and the reason I am going back this year!! This is one of my favs to listen to as well. Hey, just to let you know. I was checking out the Hersheypark website and they have a special concert deal that you can get tickets to the amusement park the day of the concert for 20 bucks. The stadium is basically in the park so I'm sure you could just walk there. They have some pretty sweet rollercoasters there so I think I'm gonna go. Check out the website here: http://www.hersheypa.com/attractions/hersheypark/admission/concert_special.html

Field Seat sections are identified by letters - rows and seats vary for each event and are subject to change.

Any chance of a back-to-back Seek Up opener?

That would be awsome.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I thought it was pretty cool.

That's awesome. I wanted to go to the park anyway.

Yea, I thought it was a good idea. For me, I'm driving to NYC to see my cousin and on the way back ride some coasters and see my favorite band. Sounds like a fun trip to me.

I will be in attendance again...every one since 98...missed 96, because I was a meathead, but I will be there this year. I agree with all the others...people spread this crap about the sound being so bad at Hershey, but I have always heard every word, every nuance of the violin, sax, etc., and have always had a great time. Tailgating can be a bit treacherous for those of us who are either a) stupid, or b) underage. Be smart, and you'll be fine. Last year we had a card table and drinking games all afternoon with 3 coolers scattered around us, but it was no matter. We were chill, and that kept the pigs away.

Anyway...last year is a VERY TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW, but, Hershey has NEVER let me down, and I know DMB won't start this year. CHEERS! See you all in chocolatetown, PA on 7.10!!!!!!! :bounce

Glad its on the weekend this year. I will be hitting up the park followed by a great show I hope. I don't expect anything of the calibar of last year, but it should be an amazing time nonetheless. Been to heshey everytime since 01, which was my first show and been hooked since.

I disagree... she was alright. i dont think it was anything spectacular, and wasnt the best opener I have seen, but she suited her role of going out there and filling time before the band came on. She has a decent voice, and it was calming to listen to personally. Then when the boys started stone it was like pow energy. I liked the contrast.

I went to Hershey once...it was good, I enjoyed myself for the most part...except the security guy yelling at me to put my camera away (I was 7th row) oh, and the cops in the lots kinda sucked...I didn't enjoy the horse poop all over.

last year a horse dumped a cop off of it and then started running through the parking lot. it was classic.

they should come around with free chocolate during the shows, or have the band throw bars off the stage or something.... atleast give you a free one as you enter the stadium.

state fair...would be a hot place for them to play...but its incredibly small. maybe d&t.

state fair would be way too crowded, the carrier dome is too hefty bag like, war memorial sucks, rochester and albany are for winter. not sure where else could be done. there should be an amphitheater big enough in the fingerlakes region. its so beautiful and so many places there could be one, too bad there isnt to my knowledge

Section 25 is actually not that bad...just off to the side.
The sound is still pretty good there, especially with the new setup.
