Hey everyone. This summer will be my first DMB concert and my first time at Alpine. Being the poor college (UW-Milwaukee) student that I am, should I go to both nights or just one? The ticket prices are pretty steep and I still would like to go to Tom Petty at Summerfest. If you would only go one night, which night would it be? Sorry about the dumb questions, I'm just trying to budget my money.

Matt

BTW, two step kicks ass. :thumbsup

welcome to ants.. I've never been to Alpine Valley, but the 2nd nite is usually the show everyone goes to if they're choosing 1 out of 2.. Couldn't promise it'd be a better show... Usually is though whenever DMB comes to Camden, Nj for 2 nites though.

The 2nd night is ususally better, but last year the 1st night at Alpine got Say Goodbye.

whats up matt, i go to uwm as well and i'm definately making it a point to go to both nights. it's usually a great time and a couple of awesome shows. I think if you go to both shows you won't be dissapointed. Also the price of lawn seats aren't too bad.

My guess is that the closest airport would be Milwaukee. I am not sure if there are other airports in the area, or at least ones that come from Arizona!

Milwaukee's airport is closest to Alpine. Prolly about a 40 min drive or so.

I flew into chicago last summer, the drive is kinda far (1:30 mins or 2 hours) depending on where you are staying/camping/traffic.

I want to go to six flags this time, last year we were going to go but they were closed :( .

Hey guys, come hang out in the Alpine 2004 thread. Where are you camping, by the way?

You know last year, the first night was better, and more people went to the first night. Probably cause it was a saturday. Not complaining that i went to just sunday since we got help myself, minarets, bartender, nancies...it was great... but go both nights.

OOoh. Have they released the dates that he's gonna be playing? I went to see him last year and am definitely going to go again.

And it's expensive, but Alpine is really worth it.

I think the second night was better too. Nancies and Warehouse!! The first night was still pretty good cause it had Say Goodbye

I remember the second show much, much better. I thought What You Are was a highlight, and Nancies/Warehouse. Either way there are very few repeats between the 2 nights, so definitely try to see both.

Its pretty hard to compare the two shows because they both were outstanding. the first night you had Grey Street, Crush, Ants, Cry Freedom, the last stop, jimi thing, two step, a nice encore and say goodbye.

The second night you had DDTW, R&R, Bartender, Nancies, Warehouse, Help Myself, Minarets, however the encore was a bit dissapointment.

Both were great

Thanks for all the advice. I guess it really does just make sense to go to both nights. Lawn tickets shouldn't set me back too far and if I only end up going to one show, I'll wish I went to the other one also. I can't wait for August!

There was just a bit of mud coming off the left side lawn last year. people fallin' all over. my buddy got creamed by a slider. hilarious. Then we gave him a camcorder and told him to go meet people. more hilarious.

Hints for Alpine Virgins.

1) steeper on the left, flatter on the right. left=better view. right=more stable footing. middle=soundboard can block view if the canopy is unfurled.
2) According to Alpine's site "tailgating and alcohol are prohibited" I'm calling bullshit on this one. Tailgating and alcohol are abundant.
3) Lots open around 2. the earlier you arrive, the later you'll leave. Exiting alpine is half the fun, and all the frustration.
4) Don't assemble your metal-pole tent in a puddle in the parking lot with 6 of your friends in the rain. Somebody died doing this last year from a lightning strike. A bunch of peple went to the hospital on that one.
5) Don't rear end the grand cherokee in front of you on the only offramp into Alpine. Chicago and Milwaukee traffic was backed up for several miles on this one.
6) Don't Drink the Water. I don't know why, but Dave and Co. think this is a good idea.

Alpine is due for some mindblowing shows.......and I gotta say I like the dates back at the end of the tour again.... although 4th of July was a nice touch last year as well. Alpine has defintely become one of the premiere venues to travel and come see dMB at, but its been a few years since theyve played a knock your socks off set there. Dont get me wrong, great shows again last year.....that Minarets is still ringing in my ears.... but there always seems to be something missing in the overall AWE factor in a given set, show, venue. I dont know, maybe I take Alpine for granted because it so close to me, but imo.... every show at Alpine should be like their first stint there in 98, 8.19.00 and 8.20 are certainly no sloutches either.....but 2 years in a row with the same encore, and a subpar one at that....... Diggin/ What U are. Alpine will be the envy of the rest of the tour this year. Its just due......

well, that's a good thing to get cleared up, although it still sucks that people got hurt. that storm was short, but defiantely to the point.

enough aboot bad stuff at alpine...there's way too much good that goes on there!
