maybe because we want to see them in general. Coors is much better, same with Shoreline but if they are playing down where I am and its at the home depot center, so be it.

Because its brand new and one of the only venues around. The band obviously likes it if they're coming back.

same reason they play in a basketball stadium, it's a contained area where people can hear their music. ill be there again this year....and this year we have Ben Harper opening instead of the shitty Roots

Is the venue really that bad? I thought about going last year but didn't want to because I thought it was an indoor venue. As long as it's outdoors, I wouldn't mind being in a stadium. Airfare's relatively cheap, but of course, I'd need a ride to and from LAX and a place to stay.
penn darvis
03-02-2004, 07:35 PM
The venue is much like a football stadium except that the stands aren't as big. So you can get put really far away, but it isn't as bad as say Giants stadium. Also, I didn't like the acoustics of the venue because it does have an awning. I'll be going to both. I haven't sampled too many venues so I don't know if it is worth it.
On a side note. Will Ben Harper and the Black Eyed Peas each have their own set?
Could make for some good guest opportunities.

I'm going to both shows. Went to both last year. I sat on the floor both nights so it wasn't too bad. I'm not a big fan of the venue. If i had to sit on the other "end zone" of the stadium I'm sure it would pretty much suck. But i think anything up front in any venue is good.
anyways... I'm going!

As nice as CA is, you'd be better off going to the festival. Come here next summer(or get away from the freezing cold if they come here in the winter again).

I hope this year Leroi stays healthy............

Its average. There are good seats, but a lot of band ones too. The further you get from the stage, the worse the sound gets.

well for 1, since i went to UCI i would sadly know this :(, they have a curfew in Irvine at 11. if you remember the older shows from there, they never played an encore, and just played a few extra songs in the set.
i cant really think of any other good reason though. it is smaller than home depot, but not much smaller than Coors. i really wish they would play there again.

true true, but i still agree would rather they play 3 SD shows. i think you would get the hardcore fans from OC and LA down there, and get rid of so much of the bullshit people that end up at LA shows. Just my opinion of course though. im going to all 3 anyways, because i care more about the band and music than the people, just wishes and hopes :)

So since they are skipping Shoreline this year, my options are a LONG drive for this....or a long weekend in Washington.
Anyone have anythoughts....obviously the Fabled Gorge would be the way to go..but logitically it is tougher, and more expensive than Carson.

Thats amazingly retarded logic. No wonder people hate Californians.
It's like saying SD...Tijuana...same thing
Just because 2 counties border each other doesn't mean they are the same thing. LA and OC are almost polar opposites.
And for the record:
OC>SD>LA

I think they realized they needed something extra to try and sell out there this year. Last year was great with the roots, i thought so anyways, but i think the band realized to get more hype for the shows there, they needed something extra. it seems like they are really trying to build more interest in LA, i mean they have 2 shows there at a place that holds like 50k or so people.
That being said, im happy i get to see Ben Harper, and i guess i might get there early enough to watch Black Eyed Peas one of the days, but definitely not both. I'm hoping Ben sits in with the Band on slide guitar or something. however, i still think the San Diego show will be better than either LA shows as usual, but I'm hoping the guys prove me wrong!

Now that it's official - I'm going to both Home Depot shows and the Coors show. This thread seems to have become a Southern California thread instead of just Home Depot Center. Last year I was 10th row on the floor for the second night (poor Leroi). This year, we're bringing the whole fan damily, so the floor was out. Got 4 tickets for each night on the right sidelines - not too bad for ticketmaster. So the countdown begins, just 22 weeks to go!

Hello Gravedigger... Question... I'm driving down from SF and am not an expert of SoCal. Do you know how far away the Comfort Inn & Suites in Long Beach is from the Home Depot Center?
I'm totally excited that we're only 11 days away! :bounce
Thanks.

Long beach is just south of Carson..I would say its about a 10 -15 minute drive by guess. Leave plenty of time for traffic...cya there!!

Thanks Jahsh for the info. I kinda figured it wasn't that far. But, I know that short distances can be long commutes in SoCal.
11 days and counting.

Yeah, it can't be more than like 15 miles or so. Plus your talking freeway miles which can go quick if theres no traffic. I can't wait. Warehouse tickets should be here anytime now. :D

8/28 is kinda greenish-brown, has DMB in silver in the upper left corner, and three gray elephants along the bottom
8/29 is sky blue with a gray fire dancer and Dave Matthews Band in silver in the upper left corner
I was going to post a picture but my camera battery is toast. I'll post one later when my battery is charged.

i wish i was going to Home Depot. I was there last year, i really liked the setlist, but the overall "feel" of the show lacked something.
I saw someone asked about the parking lot, it was right there surounding the stadium, so i'm not sure why you heard that. All of my friends will be there this year and i'm so upset i can't be there to tailgate with them. There were a lot of cops in the parking lot last year...at least where we were, but they didn't do much. Have a great time....wish i was gonna be there :(

Last year, Roi was sick for both shows. He left stage several times to get sick and then finally for good the second night. That might be the something that was lacked. :o
There was a shitload of cops in the parking lot last year and they were straight up Nazi's to us. We were up near the front though and we arrived VERY early so maybe it was because they had no one else to fuck with yet.

That's so bizarre. The first night last year, we got there 2 and a half hours before the show and the cops were so friggin cool to us. Maybe its just my luck.

We made a sign last year that read "Mom it's my birthday" since it was my wife's birthday. Anyway, it was one regular size piece of poster board, but the guards at the gate wouldn't let us bring it inside. No one told us we should try to be discreet about it. In fact, before we went I remember looking up the house rules and seeing that they would allow signs as long as they weren't blocking anyone's view, but oh well. Strangely, on the way out, we picked it up right at the front gate, so at least we still have the sign. Maybe we'll try to bring it again this year.

Just did a quick search and didn't see this posted anywhere - it probably belongs in here anyway. I just saw on the Official site that the Black Eyed Peas had to cancel for the Home Depot Center shows and that they're being replaced with Jem. Didn't I read a while back that the B.E.P. had some sort of fire that damaged all of their stuff. Not sure if this is at all related, but it probably didn't help.
Jem opened earlier on the tour, right? I seem to remember hearing good things. Regardless, I'm a little more interested in seeing the Dave Matthews Band anyway, and as far as I know, they're still planning on being there :)

I was kinda lukewarm on the idea of the B.E.P. anyways.
The real treat that us Home Depoters are getting (in addition to DMB) is Ben Harper!

OK, i didn't feel like sifting through this entire thread... the tickest say the shows start at 5:30 and 4:30. Are they starting early just because there are 2 openeners, or is the band gonna be out on stage earlier? I dont remember them going out any earlier last year. And also, does that mean that sunday DMB will be out an hour earlier than they were on Saturday?

For some reason, DMB came out earlier on Sunday last year. Looks to be the same this year.

I was there for the second night last year and, as I recall, they could have taken the stage as early as about 7:40, but they didn't come out until a few minutes after 8:00. Some of this may have had to do with Leroi's not feeling well, like they were waiting to see if he was going to make it. Hope everyone is well this year - less than a week to go!

here's hoping for a #41, since they haven't played it in the LA area since may 2001 (dodger stadium). LIOG would be badass as well. some unrealistic wishes: YNK, Seek Up, Say Goodbye and of course, Last Stop. We can only wish.

Whats the parking lot scene like at the Home Depot Center? I have heard that security is a bitch and the place is pretty unherb friendly.....it seems that alot of people bitch about this place--everything to the lines to security....is there anything good about the HDC?
penn darvis

I wasn't really too involved in the parking lot scene last time, so I don't about that. Took some pictures of a group tailgaiting though and they didn't seem to be getting hassled by security. I don't know about getting the herb in, but from the smell, it didn't seem too unfriendly a place to me. I assume that because the floor is so huge(bigger than a normal football field), once you get it in, no one is going to stop you. The security at the Staples Center is much worse than at HDC. The only thing I don't like about HDC is the acoustics(soccer stadiums usually don't have great acoustics).

Ok y'all, I am getting ready to head to the airport - and I will be in Cali for the second show! There are a few songs I am wishing for which DMB did not play at Alpine, so I hope he doesn't blow his load on the first night as he did at Alpine (although the second night was still very good). Ben could stir things up - but I would like to hear any of the following: Watchtower, 2 step, Good Good Times. I am not asking much, since I am very excited to experience another show in a different location! See ya on Sunday!:)

Ok, so listen guys. About the parking lot: It's not bad! I got trashed in the parking lot last year with no hassle. You just have to be smart about it. For instance, pour your beers into cups instead of drinking it straight from the can. Another example, while finding places to pee, choose a secluded location. An finally, if smoking, dont take a hit and blow it in a cop's face.....dont think that'll help you get in the venue.
