I didn't see one out there (for obvious reasons) so I figure I'd start one up. Just put in my request for this one. I know everyone (including me) hates the acoustics at this venue and the traffic is mad. But, I'm still looking forward to hearing some fresh stuff from the boys since we are second on the tour. Plus, it's always funny to hear Dave call this place "The World" like old times.

Ehhh, I think I might just wait and go to Alpine. Though, Tweeter means I don't have to wait to see DMB.

I'm doing Alpine, too (along with Hershey). But I'd kill myself if they came out with a huge show at Tweeter and I sat home. That's the only reason why I'm going.

yeah, I'll be there (hopefully, I put in my request yesterday) and I'll also be at Noblesville and Alpine

Can you tailgate at this place? I've never been here and am willing to put up with all of the sound and parking problems that I've heard about as long as we can have a good tailgate.

I think I may go to this show.
I haven't been to this venue since 1999. Not a fan of the venue, and I've never seen DMB there, but I need a show to tide me over until Alpine.

The only reason to go to tweeter is so that you dont have to wait all the way to alpine. This show holds you over for those two big nights....so yes ill be going

im going...it's the only show i can go to since im only 15...but last year i had a blast and the sound wasnt to bad where i was sitting(your fine as long as you dont get lawn), plus it's a 10 minute drive from my house so i cant just pass that up

No tailgating allowed really. We weren't bothered last year when we just sat around and drank a bit, though. But they don't allow grilling, etc. One year, they made us sit in our cars and drink.

I skipped out on their show there last summer because this place is the biggest disgrace to Amphitheatres in ther country. What a big SHITHOLE. With a big market lke Chicago, Ive never quite understood why something couldnt come forward and completely wipe this place out..... damn, I really miss the old Popular Creek out in Hoffman Estates. F'n Sears. :violent: The crowd as well, is reason enough to loathe the place.... and trust me, this is not anywhere close to a true representation od chicago dMb faithful..... bunch of meatheads, toughpants, and braty girls..... All this being said, the band still plays really great shows there.... even if you cant really hear them. Ive vowed to never go to this place again, that version of Typical in the encore last year may be enough to persuede me to go this year..... but its so tough. Its crazy, I know....how can you refuse to go to a dMb show in your home city/state??? World is more than enough answer.

Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for another "amphitheatre". I believe they are calling it Millenium Park where the new "amphitheatre" in Chicago is being built. I walk past it a couple times a week but I really know little about it accept that it is a music theatre. Right on Michigan Avenue in between Randolph and Washington.
I passed up Tweeter this past summer for the same reasons. No camping, no tailgating and I had the same occurence of having to drink in the car. I'm saving my money for Deer Creek, Alpine, and Blossom.
But, have fun when you go and be safe.

Oooh I am glad that it's going to be a music theatre. It looks sooo cool. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's completed. It was designed by Frank Gehry, he designed the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. The top of the structure looks very similar to part of the Guggenheim. Sooo cool.

This year will be my first time at this venue. I just moved to Chicago from St. Louis so I'm used to everyone badmouthing the local venue, UMB gets dumped on terribly. The way I see it the less people who wanna go see DMB here gives me a chance at better seats.

This is what it's going to look like when it's done.
And this is what it's going to look like from the front.
http://www.djc.com/special/emp2000/chicago.jpg
"...Seating for the audience will be provided in two areas located on the Great Lawn. The main seating area will accommodate up to 4,000 people in fixed seats and will be located immediately adjacent to the Music Pavilion. Beyond the main seating, a lawn area will accommodate up to an additional 6,000 people in a more informal environment. "
So yeah. It's going to be pretty decent sized.

I see that thing everyday (no pun intended) and it's hideous. It will be a huge eye-soar for the city in 10 years. Chicago's lakefront isn't flashy and this is SO out of place.

yes it is, the place is a dump....................
Its not too bad, until you go to any other venue in the country. All I'm saying is, with as great of a city that Chicago is.... especially from an architectual standpoint.....the city deserves mch better than the shitty Tweeter Center with no working speakers, and the United Center (aka the ECHO dome) Carter cant even overcome their steel layered 5000 foot tall ceiling :BANG
Millenium Park wont hold too many big name concerts. 10,000 capcity is not that big at all in any type of comparison with outdoor venues.....'tis smaller than Red Rocks. It will be useful for Tast of Chicago and the various fests down there.....but to expect dMb will play there, dream on....

I said I would never go back to this place after how terrible it was in 2002. Then 2003's show had a pretty good setlist, so I am going to go this year as long as the Warehouse gives me some good seats. I might look on ticketmaster for some good seats too. If I get anything in the 200's or lawn I will sell them :)
Plus I live like 15 minutes away, and drive there everytime I go to school. So its kinda hard to sit at home and knowing a DMB concert is taking place that close to me.

I'm going this year and it will be my first time going to this venue. Do you think it will really be that bad if I get decent seats. And what do you mean by bad acoustics, echo, dull sound, or just not loud? I'm a third year member and I've always got seats in the first 30 or so rows so I figured I'd get decent seats.

so, I gotta admit.... I took the bait and when ahead and requested. Not so much frmo the set last year, even though that Typcial in the encore continues to kick my ass, but anyways....its the 2nd show of the tour, on a friday.... so I figure at the very least it will be a nice appitizer for Deer on that same weekend. Wishful thinking, but heres hoping for better speakers and sound this time around.

ive been going for the past 2 years and ill be going this year (its the day before my b-day)
last year's show was amazing, personally, i think it was just as good as alpine that year (well, maybe not night 1, but just as good as night 2- and yes, i was at all 3 shows)
the traffic isnt bad at all, you just have to know how to read a map and be smart enough to not take the main road
i guess the sound isnt as good as alpine, but its not that bad if you have pavilion seats

What do you mean the acoustics are bad........can you just not hear as well, is it not loud enough? can you not hear dave singing?
But i've heard they have had some awesome Setlists here, so thats a plus. cheers

More than likely, yes. But one time I had "Obstructed View" seats and the only thing wrong with them was I was first row in the 200 level and I had the railing in front of my seat. Didn't "obstruct" my view. It would if you were about 4 1/2 feet tall I guess.

Since the WH added that "seats notes" I think they may, also they usually tend to stay away from obstructed view, with the execption of Alpine, I'm down in 103, row E, and for my "notes" it says Uncovered, anyone who knows alpine good knows that anything close to the side is uncovered.... So i guess thats their warning to me........oh well.. we'll see when i get the tickets.

Last year I was row 103 Row F and I hate to say this, but it kinda sucked. I don't remember any of it being uncovered, but you are going to probably be WAY towards the right. I was seat 40-something, we were even more to the right then the big speakers on the stage.
Don't listen to people when they say there is not a bad spot in Alpine.

Hey all,
I've never been to the venue and after hearing all of the smak about it I wasn't sure about making the drive from MI. Can someone who has been to the venue tell me how sec. 105 BB would be? They're WH seats, so I obviously don't have seat numbers...and I have a feeling that the seats will make all the difference between good sightlines and shitty ones. But in general...105 BB...good, bad?

Better than the lawn, but potentially off to the side.

The first one is from the front row of probably 102 diagonally to 205. The second is from behind the 207 section area. The other is the seating map. Not too many pics of Tweeter because it's not all that scenic. Just know that vendors are past 101 and 105 and behind 201 next to the lawn.

How fast are you driving? I would say it takes about 30 to 45 min with NO Traffic at all, and going pretty fast. But there is always traffic around there especially on a day of a concert.

Us Chicago natives are very loyal to our particular pizza places. My personal favorite is Lou Malnati's. Of course, you should really check out the original Uno's (not the chain - there's a HUGE difference) on Wabash & Ohio.
And you should make the short drive into Skokie and go to Poochies for a Cheddar Burger. It's a classic.

I agree.......thats why we need constant tour dates:
3 shows in the summer
3 shows in the fall
3 shows in the winter
3 shows in the spring
that way we can always have something to look forward to! C'mon 12 shows a year not bad huh?

wow, i just went back and read a lot of this thread. Tweeter's really geting a lot of shit. If I've never been there before i'd stay away from the place....however, having been there, it's not that bad. The sound isnt good, but its not like you cant hear, especially if you're in the pavillion. Tweeter usually gets some good setlists like last years. 2002 wasnt that great, but it still had Two Step and Seek Up. For those going, don't worry it'll be fine.

I got some seats through Ticketmaster in the second row of the 200's, so I'm pumped. Tweeter is ripped on way too much, last year I went to the 7.3.03 show, my first outdoor DMB show, and I had so much fun. I was two rows from the back of the pavillion, and I still had an awesome time. The setlist was killer, the stretch of 41, Too Much, Dreaming Tree, Billies, Crash, Rapunzel, BlueWater-->TS, and WYA was an incredible final hour, right up there with the U2 Elevation tour show I saw as the best ever.
This year, second show of the tour, the setlist will be a complete surprise, the band will be energetic, Friday Night in Chicago - come on, it'll fucking rock.
See you all there

2) Warehouse - yet again, haven't seen it. The 'Woo' intro, salsa outro, awesome jam

4) Tripping Billies - Boyd always tears it up

so the traffic is gonna be killer on the day of the show? How long from downtown chicago will it take? Just trying to get a better idea of when to leave...from Milwaukee.

From downtown, it will take at least an hour and a half. Problem is, the traffic always gets really bad within 4-5 miles of the exits. From Milwaukee, I'd leave around 2:30 to give you plenty of time to get there. I don't know if you have lawn but the gates open at 5:30.

I did a little something on Microsoft Paint that I wanted to show you guys. I did it two months ago, and basically, i just decided I wanted to design my own amphitheater. So I did. Heres some pics of it:
Seating Chart (http://www.maderocks.com/amp1.gif)
Side view (http://www.maderocks.com/amp2.gif)
Venue map (http://www.maderocks.com/amp3.gif)
Gimme some feedback, people!
i like it, but lot B might be a little close to the lawn, i'd make them walk a bit.
but i do like it, nice work :thumbsup

I am pretty familiar with the area, cause I only live like 10-15 minutes away. I am almost positive that you can get off at the Lagrange Road exit, which is the exit past tweeter, and then head towards 191st street going back east. That might save you save you some time if the exits get really backed up. Thats what I have always done in the years past and I haven't had any problem getting there.
I also want to find out how you can get to Oak Park Avenue going north, which would be almost the opposite way everyone is coming from. I am going to ask around and see if there is away around it.

Some of the songs I would love to hear are
BOWA. The first and only time I have ever heard it was at my very first DMB show back at the World in 1999. PLEASE bring it back.
JTR
Halloween, which would never happen and not really sure if I want to hear it at Tweeter, but in general I would just love to hear it. Could you imagine what it would sound like?!?!?
Trippin Billies. Its been awhile since I heard this one. :)

you mean to tell me that nobody is going to camp out for this show. a couple decent places to camp by the amp. I will be pitching a tent, and partying all night.
Would love to set up some aud or dvd trading for that day! Plus I might add that if you don't have a ticket I would still go because I went the last two years and I found a lot of people selling tickets at this venue, for decent prices! Last year I could of got a lawn tic for 25$ but already had 2. I might also be able to get my hands on a couple lawn if anyone is interested!
What bar is everybody going to go to afterwards, I would love to meet some fellow ants. I remember going to the dave and tim show in ohio and one of the many highlights was partying with people from NY afterwards!
Can't wait!!! :bounce

People rip this place apart. My parents just moved to chicago a few months ago, so I'll be making the trip out from boston with my gf to spend a few weeks in town and see a dave show (love to see the cubs too, but they're all sold out)...I'm in section 200, row xx, so I hope that's not too bad. Even if so, I'll be back on the east coast for both nights at saratoga and mansfield, so I'm not complaining. As for getting there, I'm at the end of lakeshore drive...anyone in town know when I should leave?
BOWA would be nice, but after an AMAZING BOWA/Billies encore at spac last year, I dunno what could top that. And I've already had "the two step experience"...20 feet from the stage at central park, so I guess you could say I'm past that too. I really hope they bring back the last stop this year. Aside from that I'd love to hear JTR, LIOG, Proudest, and YNK, if I had to pick five I haven't heard live yet
18 days til I leave for chicago, I'm pretty pumped :bounce

From LSD, depending on when you want to get there (hopefully before OAR) I'd say leave about 3-4pm However it IS a Friday and traffic starts about 1 in the afternoon. Im coming from bolingbrook so i just have to shoot up 55 about 15 minutes or so.

thats cause its a HS graduation. Fill that place up with people, and Dave screaming and it probalby won't sound that good. Hopefully there will be no problems, but don't expect any miracles.
My brothers graduation was there last year. After the ceremony I got to stand dead center right where Dave would stand. Its a very weird feeling, but very cool.

does tweeter center always have ticket checkers at the seating area or is it just for the closer seats, because I paid $119 for 2 lawn seats for shit's sake, and I KNOW there's always seats open in the shows, and everyone's standing up. so, if I could snab a seat by someone, let me know.

If you had pavillion seats you might be able to get a few rows ahead of you, but there is probably no way you can get into the pavillion with lawn seats. Like Crumbo said there are about two people at every section, and even more in the lower section. Usually you can only go into the section where you have seats, and you can't go into another.

I have been to about 5 OAR shows, and 15 DMB ones, and personally I think DMB fans are much worse than OAR fans. I don't know why OAR fans get such a bad rap. They do draw a little bit of a younger fan base, so maybe that is where some people see the problem.

I know that WYA is a standard closer, but I've grown to like it. If it's a set closer, fine - however, I'd rather hear something else as the encore, and I think since WYA was the encore closer last year, they'd avoid that this year.

The best was '01, while walking through the Taste to get to Soldier Filed we got to hear The Go-Go's performing!
I actually DO hope they return to SF eventually. Who cares what it looks like!? First of all, it's the home of the Chicago Bears the best, most beloved, (if not cursed) team in the league. Secondly, the sound system on the OLD one far surpassed Tweeter. I imagine the new one is even better! Not to mention in general how much better a staduim show is than an ampitheater show!

What about Yankee Stadium??? Is that not a historic landmark??? Although I hate the design of the new Soldier Field, you have to admit that there isn't much you could do with the classical design of the original Soldier Field. As much as I hate to say it, they should have just torn the whole thing down and started from scratch. Then you wouldn't have the clash that you have now.
As for DMB playing there, I would love it b/c I could walk to the show. :thumbsup

Yankee Stadium was built in 1923 and is amazing to see a game at. You can just feel the history and championships in that place. Fenway was built in 1912 and also has a nice classic feel to it. Wrigley was completed in 1914 and the first game was in 1916. I love that place, too.

Why do you think DMB didn't return to Soldier Field once it was completed? They could easily sell out one night, if not two. Here in St. Paul we have the wonderful new Xcel Energy Center, and the Minnesota Wild invested another $40 million just to have a state-of-the-art sound system for concerts. Nevertheless, when DMB comes to town they continue to play the crappy Target Center...because it's a Clear Channel venue. Do you think that's what the deal is w/ Tweeter?
