View Full Version : Everyone who receives assigned seating at the Gorge...

I'm getting started early on spreading the word that everyone with assigned seating at the Gorge should fold up their chairs and stack them when the boys come out. My buddy and I got a good size crowd of people around us to do it last year, and it makes the pavillion seating experience a lot more enjoyable because you aren't so crowded. Everyone has plenty of room to dance and move around. It was awesome, and I think it would be even cooler if everyone did it. Who's backing me?

No problem, just hold your chair under your arm til your ready to sit down.
Easy.

b. i paid for my seat and my spot, i don't want some dumb fuck getting in front of me and pushing me back.
c.yeah, no. safety concerns. i hate people pushing in front of me at non seated GA shows, i hate people stubbing up like a group of 4 people for 2 seats too.

No offense, but if I pay for a seat, I want a seat. Not a clusterf*ck in front of the stage.
If you don't want seats, then go to the lawn.

Im suprised that this thread is getting negitive feedback. I guess some people like to snuggle with chairs. believe it or not I have ran into alot of idiots at the gorge. It can be a very conservative crowd filled with ants.boring , anf dull as well ! its too bad we cant get rid of them along with the chairs

In years past they have tied the rows together, so the only way to get this done is to cut them loose AND get a whole section of peeps to follow. It works if you don't want to sit for 3 hours. I have seen shows both ways, I like to rest sometimes I just feel sorry for the people that get the pile of chairs stacked in their seat spot. I agree with others here though, because if everyone does this, myself and others might bum rush the stage. The Gorge folding chairs have always sucked, but its the only way to keep order.

if this happened, people would rush the stage. in older shows (95ish, i can't remember the dates) people did this and rushed the stage. all it did was piss dave off and he yelled at the crowd to stop cause people in the front were getting smashed. that's why they have a lawn - so you don't have to sit in a seat if you don't want to.

Here's the arguement that I posted on nancies.org:
If anyone saw the clip from Two Step on Driven (not the clip from Van Ryper's but the indoor one on the show) and saw the energy from the crowd and the band, you may know what I mean. If you haven't seen it, look for a copy of Driven somewhere and check it out. Could you imagine being in a crowd like that at a DMB show? It can't happen anymore because everyone is restrained by their seats.
Secondly, Stefan said in his radio interview, in so many words, that he's bored of today's DMB crowds and would like to see the crowd back like the old days, where if he wanted to, he could stage dive. I'm not expecting band members to hurl themselves off the stage, but imagine the heat, energy, and intensity coming off of a crowd of DMB fanatics rocking to Two Step, Halloween, etc. Concerts should be crowded, full of energy, and have a hard rocking crowd.
Either way, I hope some people do it along with me so that we can get some dancing room. Don't make 10 foot high stacks...I'm talking multiple 4 footers. That won't hurt anyone. Also, even if people sneak their buddies down, who really cares? I used to try to sneak close at every show and the first show that fans cared was in Salt Lake in 2001. Now the "laid back" fans at the Gorge are bitching about it.
Listen to the music, dance, and enjoy your surroundings. It really doesn't get much better than DMB at the Gorge!

so you can't listen to the music, dance and enjoy your surroundings with a seat behind you?

1. i don't remember saying he wanted to stage dive...
2. i paid for my ticket, my seat, my space, not for your sweaty stinky ass to be on top of me.
3. yes i do mind if you are your 8 buddies try to muscle your way down in front of me. then you stand and block my view or act like complete idiots and ruin the show for me.
4. the gorge may be chill and laid back, but if you do that near me i'm not going to put up with it. it's my space goddamnit, not you and your 8 friends.
hey man, do whatever you want, but i don't want your sweaty ass near me, i came to enjoy the show, not smell your BO.
edit: i'm a pretty laid back guy and can put up with just about anything but people fucking up my show.

^this stopped when DMB started playing in stadiums/ampitheaters. Small places where DMB used to play had dance floors for stuff like that. Stadiums/Ampitheaters have chairs. DMB plays at bigger venues now, so that kind of thing will never happen as long as thats happening. Maybe way down the line, when DMB has lost the college/high school/radio crowd that likes DMB because they are the cool band to like, DMB will start playing smaller venues again. But until then, if you want a chair get reserved seating, if you dont want a chair, go to the lawn.
why don't you and your drunk ass friends just sit on the lawn?

Dancing is cramped with seats around you and people bitching and calling security about the guy next to them who snuck his buddy down. Eliminating chairs would solve all of this.
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed every DMB show that I've seen at the Gorge, or anywhere for that matter. From seating (with and without chairs), to the lawn, I can promise you that everyone who really cares about being as close to the stage as possible will absolutely love the open area. When we packed up our chairs last year, no one was crushing anyone or invading anyone's space. It just made somewhat of a dance floor and the vibe was that much cooler.
I know that I'm not starting a revolution here. As long as I plant the seed, I'm sure that some people will find benefits from this thread when they travel to Washington this fall.

1. sneaking your friends down to the pavillion is bullshit. they are invading the space i paid for.
2. everyone that care about being close to the stage IS EVERYONE. who doens't want to sit front row? all it would cause is a huge rush to the stage and people being trampled.

I guess it's true that DMB fans are starting to become lamer and more selfish as years pass. Go to an OAR or Rusted Root concert and compare the crowd energy to that of a DMB concert. Don't get me wrong, DMB is my favorite band, and most definitely my favorite band to see live, but the energy from the crowd is seriously lacking...even at 9/8/02, which was the most crowd energy I've ever seen at a DMB concert.
I'm sorry that I'm starting to dish personal blows, and I'm not even going to to defend those that people have dished towards me. I guess we'll just see what happens.
P.S. The stage dive comment from Stefan was in the X-Games interview. Sorry that I was mistaken.
we are being selfish because we don't want your drunk friends taking the spot that *WE* paid for?

Okay, fuck it with the not defending myself bit. Where does all this drunk friends shit come from. I'm not implying for people to sneak their buddies down. That's disrespectful anyway. Plus, you wouldn't even fucking know if there were more space to begin with. The seats at the Gorge are so tightly packed in that it's uncomfortable anyway.

that is one of the most ignorant things ive ever read...im not goin to the gorge this year but i think your idea is fuckin stupid...if you want people all up against you and pushing against you while you're jammin out to the songs...go stand in the lawn...theres a reason why reserved seating is more than lawn...the gorge would throw away chairs and charge general admission otherwise

personally, i wouldn't fly from raleigh to george, washington to ever see rusted root or OAR or pretty much anyone other than dmb. with all the money i put into the trip, i want to enjoy myself. maybe it's cause i'm old (comparitively) but general admission is not enjoyable to me...i'd rather have some chairs. if OAR came to raleigh and it was GA, then fine, but I'm paying for myself to go from one corner of the US to the other, don't fuck w/ that.

Plenty of room to dance around? No what you have is a few hundred people trying to get closer to the stage. I personally don't want the people behind me to breathing down my neck. A chair behind me gives me some freedom not to have people crowding.

Respect to all the people who disagree but it's a complete clusterfuck WITH the chairs.
They're packed in twice as closely as they should be, in order for you to have ANY breathing room whatsoever, get the chairs out of your way ASAP. Trust me when I say this, the guy who started this thread is only looking out for you. Ther'll be no mosh pit,but you'll be a hell of a lot more comfortable.
EDIT: ok maybe not all the chairs. but get rid of as many as you can.

i was fine last year both nights w/ chairs. and my seats are usually good enough where everyone would be pushing on me to get closer. i want to dance and move around, not be shoulder to shoulder with people who should be back in the 15th row.

I guess we can only talk from our own experience, but all I know is that when people realized you could stack them, they did. It wasn't like "clear out all the chairs. everybody has to stand now" people just realized it was more compfortable if they got rid of some of the chairs. No one was pushing on me (And I had pretty decent seats myself) and I, personally was more comfortable after we did it. But hey, to each his own.

it's not hard to dance w/ chairs there unless your a noodle-twirling dancing freak. no sits at the gorge, but, as was said, i'm not letting anyone who didn't pay for a seat get past me cause the chairs were removed. you're going to have to be a bit craftier than that.

it is not any more crowded than any other venue. i was there in '02 and had no problems with room because of chairs. you people are just looking for an excuse to get closer, despite your shitty seats. removing the chairs does just that. anyone that comes close to me and my gear that is not supposed to be is getting whacked, mafia-style biotch.

This thing about folding chairs up is rediculous. We had some chairs folded up in front of us last year only because the people who were in them left half way through the show, they were morons who didnt like the show. Anyways, the chairs got folded up and it gave us all some space but only because those people left. I dont care what you say, they chairs will end up in piles, not neatly stacked, and people will be tripping all over them, people will be rushing the front.

People were standing shoulder to shoulder. You couldn't move you couldn't dance you couldn't see shit. But yeah it was CP so it was well worth it. But I'm with the boys on this one, if I'm gonna pay for seats I want SEATS not a spot to stand on that someone push me out of and stand in front of me with their girlfriend and make out.

i went through the proper channels, paid my time in the warehouse and got my good seats. i don't want people pushing me, crushing me, getting in front of me pushing me back. sit in the damn seat you were given.
how fair is that someone who got the last row in the seated section can push their way up to the front row? there is a REASON why dmb does seating: so people don't mosh and rush the stage.
so chill dude. not really sure what you mean by: "you wouldn't be here if 100 people started pushing you". and i'm not being a bitch, i'm just giving the straight out facts. if it remains cool, then all the power to it, but once people start pushing me or trying to get in front of me, i'm not gonna take it.

well dude all i can tell you is this thread wasn't started to get everyone to ditch their chairs and run to the front and push your ass out of the way...thats just how your taking it...and don't give me that shit i've been warehouse member for X number of years and i deserve the seats i get...if you end up at the top of the pavilion will you think you deserve those seats, probably not...matter of fact you'll probably start bitching about that and say something like I"M NOT GONNA TAKE IT...and by the way what exactly does that mean, your going whip someones ass if they bump into you...man i'd hate to be that person...the piont of this thread was for people to create a little more space where their seats are so they move around a little easier..not to screw you out of your WH seats...
Jon Gruden
03-16-2004, 01:21 PM
and one more thing...i don't think you'd me able to take 100 people pushing you in the back....it would be kind of hard to hold your ground, i would think you'd crushed...and you'd probably end up in the hospital...but thats just me, i don't think i've ever been pushed in the back by 100 people...

jason's point is that this is exactly what will happen if people rush the stage.

first thing is i'm just messing with the guy...because he seems so serious about this whole thing...who really cares...he's going to be at some shows that are going really over crowded and he's going to get bumped into....big freaking deal....whats he going to do when some people do fold their seats up, stop the show and protest...me i'd just go with the flow and not let it reunion the night...but thats how some fans are, i think sometimes poeple look for someone who's fucked up, just so they can complain about it here...

the reason that i want reserved seating is so that the people infront of me have tickets for "seats" and the people beside me have tickets for "seats". So, I dont deal with people crunching in all around me.. so i am not moving my seats and i dont care what any one else thinks...

yes i understand that it is a tight fit and there will be people around us and you will get bumped into.. i think that my last post was not conveyed very well. im just saying if you want to do the big dance party scene.. head to the lawn.. maybe that makes a little more sense....

Exactly. That is was pissed me off in '02. Someone just took my chair and removed it. Thats why I grabbed it again and immediately put it back up.

[QUOTE=ryanfitz]I guess it's true that DMB fans are starting to become lamer and more selfish as years pass.
QUOTE]
Fitz, you seriously need to get a clue. The problem is, you have yourself and other fans rip other peoples chairs out so you have more room to dance. Meanwhile your pissing these fans off that may want to sit down during some point in the show. My buddy has a bad leg, and can't stand up the whole show. The Mosh pit-not happening at any DMB show anytime soon. Go see a heavy metal band. Like others have said, if you need room, bring a big blanket on the lawn, you will have all the room you want. This is a ridiculous idea, and its fans like you that make the concert less enjoyable for others.

wow, you actually thought it was a big deal for me? i don't give a fuck if i get bumped a little during a show, heck i have bumped people accidentally as i have been groovin' to the tunes---what i am saying is that i have seen people jump seats, try to squeeze more people into not as many seats as there should be, etc. i would HATE to see what it would be like sans chairs. that's what i am afraid of. i see at least 10-20 people per show try to get closer, why not just be happy with the seats you got?

you tell me it's stupid to say blah blah "real fan" blah blah, which was meant as a sarcastic shot at you, but then if we look back at what you said,

I've never worn a DMB shirt to a DMB show, I've always thought the "don't be that guy" thing is kind of funny. However, my buddy wore a DMB shirt to the show in Vancouver last year. It was the first time he's ever worn the shirt of the band he's going to see, and we met Dave and Carter before the show. He got it signed. I'm not superstitious enough to wear the shirts now, but I just thought it was a funny coincidence.

If that movie was never made (dont be that guy), i'm not sure this conversation would ever happen. It's like going to a NFL game or MLB game and not wearing a jersey or something along the lines that support the home team (or away it doesnt matter). It's not frowned upon there, why is it any different at concerts. I wear shirts to shows about half the time, and i'm damn proud of it, and I AM THAT GUY, next time you see me tell me so, i'll say thanks.
And back to the thread, DO NOT fold up the chairs. Yeah, i said that right, DONT DO IT! I wont say thanks for that.

03-29-2004, 09:25 AM
i was just going to say that i had no idea what movie it was from...i've been preaching the "don't be that guy" practice for well over 10 years now (when did pcu come out?). and i think it differs from a sporting event. you go there to cheer on your team and help them win. a team needs that kind of support and assurance that there are people standing behind them. i would say that dmb in no way needs reassurance that they are one of the best bands in the industry and the fact that they saw people in the crowd wearing their shirts wouldn't affect their performance one way or the other.

2) Do I care about Gate crasher? Well lets see I paid over $60 for my ticket they paid $35 to invade my space....hmmm stay in your seat or lawn section AS*H**E
3) I love the gorge to death however it has the worst reserved section of any venue I have ever been to.
