Make sure you get seats. You should be able to get pretty good seats. Since this is a new venue, the fan base for it may be somewhat less than other venues. DC crowds probably prefer Nissan, and there is Hershey to the north. Have fun in Columbia, MD on a weekday night. I would if I was going to be living in MD at that time.

Yes! Not exactly the worlds best venue - hell I'd probably even say Hershey has a better place to play in, but I can't pass on something thats walking distance from my house!
The place holds only 18,000 people, and according to a good source DMB has 11,000 of the tickets. They have also reserved for the fan club the ENTIRE pavilion, all 5,000 seats worth. I know its gonna be a great time, and even if its not I can just walk back home :-)

I could be wrong, but its a pretty direct and accurate piece of information. Thats not to say that Warehouse won't have any left over to give back to ticketmaster after ticketing is complete.

I was somewhat surprised to see DMB slated to place at Merriweather, when Nissan is so close and the usual stop. It's interesting to hear that tickets for pavillion seats are reserved and very well could be true. Merriweather hasn't been churning out good shows recently because of competing venues. They've seen their day and I would think DMB would have a little more influence if they were to play there.

i saw buffet there...it is a pretty old venue ( if i am thinking of the dame place). I remeber seeing signs all around as to who has played there and how many times and all. The sound seemed good although i was in the last row before the lawn.

I went to Glen Burnie High School. Now live in Shady Side, MD...about 20 min south of Annapolis.
Totally stoked that DMB is playing Merriweather. Supposedly, Merriweather will be torn down in the very near future, so this was a nice surprise.
For those not familar with Merriweather it is essentially a smaller version of Nissan Pavillion set in the woods of Columbia. Bonus is that it is not hard to get in and out of the parking lot! Hell, you can even park across the street at the mall/business complex and walk. The sounds is ususally very good and it is a real chill atmosphere. Definitely prefer over Nissan and even VA Beach and Hershey.

Everyone seems to be a little worried about what the Merriweather venue is going to be like and what the pavillion seats are like, how is lawn, etc, etc...
First off, the venue is much smaller than Nissan, this can be a good thing, or a bad thing. It all depends on how you look at it. Personally, I like Merriweather much more than Nissan!!! Here's why: :)
:banned
Many trees make for a nice shaded environment during the dreadful JULY HEAT!
There is no giant hill to struggle hiking after a day of tailgating, or whatever you might have been doing
There is a small incline on the hill making it possible to watch the concert in the pavillion without having to watch the monitors.
The venue is so small that this will be quite intimate and the you will have a better vibe than at a crouded place like Nissan.
Bathrooms and concessions are right next to you, you don't have to climb 3 billions stairs and get lost trying to get a drink
I could go on for a while on how much more I like this venue, but I won't. You can figure out your own impressions, because you are going, right??
Have fun :thumbsup

I have seen some concerts there...I have pavillion tix from wh. It will be a great show. But a warning to all you out there....a huge cop presence. They like to bust people for drugs and underage so if you do it be careful. I think it was either phish or Buffett but they arrested like 100 people for drugs...most cops were undercover. Just a warning for you. Have a good time!

Hey y'all, I am going to be at the show too! I can't wait because I love going to venues I havent seen yet. I got pavillion tickets from the warehouse (and it did mention that parking was included). My seats are in row GG, so I was wondering if anyone knows how the rows work there. The website shows a section with rows AAA and such, then the next section back has AA and A (and similar). Do the AA or A rows come first?
So where is the party?

Merriweather is old, but small---in the pavillion it is very similar to Nissan, but lawn you'll be hurting with the sound and not so great sightlines. I'm in the pavillion. I've seen a small handful of shows there, in the PAV and on the lawn. Its a nice place, I would rather go there than Nissan--simply because of the traffic...oh GOD the unholy traffic into N. VA.!!!! I still have night terrors about last year.
This is the only show I am going to this year , and this being off the normal tour route I am expecting something a tad more unique than usual.
I just can't wait!

Went to Merriweather a few weeks ago to see the Indigo Girls. I.M.P has done some work to enhance the sound and acoustics in the place. There are also new video screens in the lawn area as well. All in all, the changes make me excited about DMB playing such a small venue.

Everyone who bought tickets to the show has 'Parking included' don't let the WH thing fool you... With all shows over the past few years here, you need to show the tickets inorder to enter the lot... If you want a good time tailgating, try to go LEFT when you get into the parking lot. It is much more peaceful, you will see where to turn.

I used to work at Merriweather, and have been to hundreds of shows there in my time.
The venue is significantly older than Nissan, and overall, not nearly as nice in terms of the accomodations for everyone (the band, the staff, the fans, etc). The venue holds about 15,000, with a little more than 5,000 being in the pavillion and the rest out on the lawn. The stage is smaller than Nissan, and the lawn is not as nice.
However, it is MUCH easier to get to than Nissan. It is convenitently located off of Route 175, and takes probably about 10-15 minutes from 95 to get to .. no one-lane access roads like Nissan. The parking lots are sure to be starting early (3pm, when they open).
I was shocked to see the band playing here when the tour was announced earlier this year. There has been talk locally to A) tear down Merriweather for more townhomes and shops in the area, B) enclose it into a smaller, indoor venue that can be used year-round, or C) renovate it, which unfortunately would take millions of dollars.
Merriweather used to get 30-40-50 shows a year, but with the addition of Nissan to the area in 1995, Merriweather has seen a huge drop-off in shows each year, to around 20.
Hopefully the DMB show is great (how an it not be), and the management and Howard County government realizes how important Merriweather is to Columbia each summer.

when all is said and done i will probably have seen dave 6 times or so this summer. Merriweather will be the best and heres why.
1. Smaller venue- more intimate setting, more intimate show. dave is known to build a setlist around an event or venue, i give you hershey and nissan from last year (9/11 and johnny cash's death). im not saying theres a big event thats significant on 9/14 but the venue...ok so i got sidetracked
2. Party- everyone around here (baltimore) is gonna be there. you will practically know everyone and those you dont know, your friends probably will. we are all getting there around 3 or 4 with a table, cups, and balls....the tailgaiting survival pack.
ok well i'd keep going but im lazy as shit. its just so mellow and the atmosphere makes this place awesome, i think dave will acknowledge that and show us a good time.

Tailgating may be a hit or miss... Last time I was there, they were cracking down on people drinking in the open, much more than they do at other venues. I'd suggest keeping it low key and you should be fine. As for grills, I don't know if they still allow that or not.

Last few times cops were out all over the place. As long as you were quiet and use cups they were cool, no cans and bottles. Watch out if your underage to, or just keep a low profile. Dont know about grills.

Im am looking for 2 people who would want to scalpe 4 seats with me and my buddy, i know a sclaper and if we buy 4 seats from him he will give us a much better deal. The seats probably wont be together but its just much cheaper that way,

Anyone know how easy it is to get in the venue? meaning, is traffic and bottle-necking a problem there like it is at Nissan? I'm wondering what time to leave
mulder11
07-14-2004, 02:42 AM
There are at least 2 entrances, maybe more into the venue. Traffic will be heavy if you arrive closer to start time and during rush hour. I've never waited more than 45 minutes to get out of the lot after a show there. It might be different with a sold out DMB show, but should be nowhere near the wait as Nissan.

getting in and out of merriweather is cake. it's right next to a giant mall (read tons of free parking where they won't tow you). you can get there any number of ways -- soo so soo so much better than Nissan that only really has one way of getting in or out. Plus, merriweather holds like 20,000 people less than nissan. yeaaah.
