i heard this and i was livid...news around buffalo was dave matthews band warehouse fan club and clear channel concerts worked together to provide the local radio station kiss98.5 with a rumored 1000 tickets from "mostly" the "warehouse" pool.
meaning that ill prolly get the shaft on my warehouse order and why when i got on at 10am to see if i could get some prime seats it was down to lawn in minutes.
this radio station is ruthless..they cut the entire line the year the sabres went to the stanley cup finals and bought a shit load of tickets.
what happend to the bands stance against corporations and all that other jazz...i could see if they just gave the station tickets or sold them to them but then i clicked the link thru the site and it lead me to CLEAR CHANNEL

I wonder if thats whats happening with the radio station in Pittsburgh, they are giving tickets away three times a day!!

radio stations should only get lawn seats to give away.

Second that! Fucking bullshit is what that is. Warehouse can go fuck themselves if that shit is true - I would want my money back prontissimo - backdated 3 years too!
Asscocks. However I would think that Clear Channel would be alloting the Warehouse the seats they are allowed and not the other way around - wouldn't you think?

That's interesting. Clear Channel doesn't own WKSE, Entercom does. And they aren't really "friends."

10$ says half the shit that goes on in the corporate aspect of the band, the band either doesnt know about or cant do anything about.
So until they start selling first come first serve at all shows, youre screwed.

Its absolute bullshit. Kiss 98.5 seats consisted of 200 level seats for Darien Lake!!!!!! and some lawn. its an outrage that warehouse members got declined when the fucking radio station bought up premium seats.

03-30-2004, 02:32 PM
Its always been known, always been said that not all premium seats are resrved for the Warehouse, and its always been known that the Warehouse reserves seats even in the very last row of the pavillion. Also radio stations didnt start promoting the shows until after the Wh confirmations were all up. I'm not saying it didnt happen but so far we have 1 guy taking about what he heard from somewhere that 1 radio station in Buffalo has tickets where some of them are from the WH pool. Based on that you really have nothing to be pissed off about, curious yes, pissed I want my money back for the past 3 years, dear lord get real. For all you know tickets received are leftovers from the few shows the WH didnt sell out, there are always shows on the big summer tours wherethere are more tickets than requests. People still get declined because well maythe there arent any reserved left and they didnt chose best avail, or maybe, although nobody wishes to admit it, they typed their credit card info wrong, it happens all the time. So for all you know these are just leftover lawn seats from the WH pool. Yeah maybe 999 out of the reported 1000 are WH seats and that all 999 are the very best prime seats the WH had reserved, but odds of that are the same as me giving birth to Daves child.
I'm not taking a side either way but I am saying my god people get real, get a life, get your head out of your ass, and get over it. From the information provided you KNOW nothing, you only suspect tht a radio station was able to get 1000 tickets "most (51 % ?)" of which MAY BE from the WH pool, but you dont know WHERE in the WH pool, and you dont know if they were UNSOLD tick from the WH pool. And the most important factor of it all (I'm not saying he's not telling the truth but just be realistic with what you believe as fact) because you "heard it from a guy who heard it from somewhere".
I heard from a friend of a friend that Dave is playing SPAC next week, you better go buy your plane tickets!

my beef is that a radio station shouldnt control how we get tickets. i could see if they wait in line at a TM on sale date buy 100tickets or get 50 wh memberships and reserve tickets and then give em away...but when theyre going over the top and buying BLOCKS of tickets before I or anyone else can even think about goin to a TM outlet on sale sate is ridiculous. its already a pain in the balls when it comes to ticketing with WH and TM...now i have to worry about my seats because a radio station in cahoots with CC bought up tickets...and quoted them as "the best seats"

first of all fuck off, second of all we know that some of the radio station seats were in the 200 level which is warehouse pool because thats where my seats are. third of all we know that there werte people declined by warehouse for darien tickets (which is the show the radio station was offering)

The entire 200 level is not a warehouse section, hate to break it to ya, so there is still 0 proof that any of these tickets came from the WH pool. Guess what there were probably 100's of 200 levels on ticketmaster, did ticketmaster steal tickets from 'your' section, no because the WH does not reserve every 200 level ticket.
The WH never reserves whole sections, so there is nothing to say that anything has been taken away from you..... and besides if you have this mentality that you think the 200 section belongs to you than you deserve to have it taken away.

umhm, at least you can see the humor in it.
Peple need to realize that the WH doesnt reserve entire sections, nor do they reserve all of the best seats to shows. For example the Gorge has rows 3, 5, 7, 10, reserved in all 3 sections ABC, not for the warehouse, not for ticketmaster, but for their own season ticket sales, and since TM had some 2nd and 4th row seats on sale on Saturday it shows the WH doesnt even get its hands on entire rows of the front prime rows.
The only people that could be even the slightest bit upset are those who were trying to buy through ticketmaster because those 200 level seats likely came out of their 'pool' and not from WH members.
dmbpromoguy

I dont know why anyone would want to be in any of these 'pools' anyway. Out of 20 000+ drunk fans I'm sure someone pissed in every available pool anyway.

I agree because its not like DMB need more promotion... Those tickets would've been bought if they hadn't have bought them, but now we all get to sit by a bunch of people who were the 13th caller after hearing Crash or I Did It. Maybe some real fans will get hooked up, but i seriously doubt it.

Yeah.. but the band does have to go through Clear Channel (and also ticketmaster) to be able to play these ampitheaters and such.. i'm not sure of the deal, but its kind of a necessary evil if they want to play the premium venues. That's why Pearl Jam's stance of not using Ticketbastard backfired on them.

Every band needs continued promotion. 2 years ago there was hardly any DMB promotion, this year we have seen numerous TV specials devoted to them, granted most of it is just Dave, not the whole band, but he's still the frontman so its no surprise. With the band soon to be having two major releases, Gorge box and new studio album, the band should be in high gear as far as promoting themselves goes. Allowing radio statons buy tickets early probably guaranteed DMB lots of sweet airtime for their new singles. People dont do anything for free, the band received something in return, and if its guarnateed airplay of the new singles than thats a good thing. Nobody knows what these new singles will sound like and how they will take off, but without the radio DMB wont get any larger, and DMB is a business now whether we like it or not.
Everyday was heavily promoted n the radio, and so was the tour in support of Everyday, it landed them with what fans think was their worst album, but what the DMB business would consider their best album with the higest sales.

It's funny, I had to sign all sorts of payola jazz back when I worked in radio, but it really is alive and well.
They just call it giveaways and stuff now. Same shit, just no money is exchanging hands.
And you can bet your ass that people in the Screwtown area will be listening to WKSE to get their tickets. That's why it's done.

thats the point WKSE isnt giving all these away...they had a link in their site to register to buy their tickets at the same time TM's went on sale...this link gos directly to CC.com so theres youre money changing hands. and seperate from TM.

There's no money changing hands here.
I forgot about the getting tix aspect, they're not 'giveaways' in the sense that people calling can win them as I previously stated. But there's no money affecting the airplay of the station.

yeah that's what i meant. these people call in to win tickets to one of the other acts, but then they get dmb, when that's not what they wanted in the first place. if radio stations are going to do promotions that way, they should be giving away lawn seats.

its one of many dave fan sites and this thread was about kiss 98.5. rumour is that you guys recieved tickets that usually go to members of the warehouse (dmb offficial fan site) that we pay membership fees for yearly, thus decreasing our seat quality. Also that this deal was stuctured thru Clear Channel, a company that DMB fans have grown to hate due to them controlly nearly every venue the band likes playing at and that the fans like going to. So if you personally even read this email or not Ill hope to hear back from you soon...or you could even post on the board!
We just want some answers.

Okay... I agree either way this sucks, but where is the evidence that these seats were specifically taken away from the WH allotted amount of seats? Like, do we know the number of WH seats this year is less than previous years specifically because of this radio promo? I guess technically every seat is one that could have potentially been a WH seat, but I dunno...
I say these are 1000 seats that never made it to TM, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are taken away from WH.

Not only am I from Buffalo, but I used to work for Rich communications, Sinclair, and Entercom. WKSE was right down the hall.
This I know: you have no idea where the tickets came from. Warehouse or otherwise. So you can stop playing the "they're tampering with the pool" bullshit. This happens in almost every market.
Regardless of that, Clear Channel wants some promotion for their concert here. They set up this deal with WKSE and that's the way it is. It's not bullshit, it's business and something you're going to have to deal with.
No emails or boycotts or whatever you think will work are going to change anything because believe me when I tell you this, no one in the media gives two shits about what you or I think is right or wrong.

the WHs first priority is to fulfill the ticket requests of their members, not a radio station. i doubt the warehouse would give a substantial number of tickets to a radio station when they have PAYING members requesting tickets. it would be a bad business standpoint on their behalf to give out WH tickets to radio stations--why? because if that was the only show a member requested and got declined, they may theink the warehouse isn't worth it and not renew. now, if it was like "a thousand tickets" like someone posted, that would be $17,500 in revenue that the warehouse just lost(membership fees), plus the cost of all those tickets which would be roughly 1000 tickets x ~$50 = $50,000 in ticket sale losses. obviously that is everyone that was declined cancelled their membership and all had requested tickets. $67,500. i'm sorry, i don't think so.
i could see them giving away maybe 100 tickets as a promotion or as comps, but 1000, no.

has anybody won tickets to see dave from a radio station? are they usually good tickets? do they get the tickets to you right away? do they tell you the location right away?
my fiancee won tickets to go see Bon Jovi last summer from a radio station at foxboro and got pretty crappy seats.

just got home and he had left me an IM...saying hes from RS and wants to talk to me about a post relating to 98.5....and after reading this thread again, I still feel used, manipulated and betrayed :lol whether or not the tix WKSE and CC had were from a WH pool, they were still better than any seat I have ever had to a DMB show at Darien Lake....every year many others along with myself are either stuck in the 500 section with no roof or in the puke infested lawn...I fully understand the marketing aspect of things, that the band should always be opening avenues to promote themselves, but what about their relationship with current die hard fans...It just doesnt feel good to have hundreds of lucky callers sitting dozens of rows in front of me. Also sucks having to see kiss985.com selling 1000 prime seats just days after my Credit card has been charged for shitty WH tix. Yeahm I could just buy thru them...then have to deal with selling my shitty WH tix....the WH has hooked me up at other venues...but my local show is always the worst....my beef also has roots from when I slept at the HSBC arena for sabres playoff tickets, waiting inline for hours, just to have it sell out before i got to the window, because WKSE paid someone cash to cut to the front of the line and buy 500-1000 tix

Just to reiterate my previous post.. the band probably has no control over what tickets the warehouse gets... the tour is somehow put out to the masses through clear channel so they have to play by their rules.
I understand your frustration, but for those who may be blaming the band or WH.. its probably not their choice.

Guys, this has been going on forever at venues all over the world long before the DMB ever existed.
A contract for a concert always calls for a split of the tickets:
x # to the promoter
x # to the venue (season tickets, internal use, sponsor fulfillment)
x # for a band presale
x # for public sale
Most of the good seats are going to go to the first 3 groups.
I think that a radio station is going to be taken care of through the promoter of the concert, especially if that station sponsors the show or the venue. I would think the Warehouse gets whatever the contract states and they use all of those tickets for their members. I don't think there would be any need for Warehouse to turn over 25% of their allotment to any radio station.
Of course, if Warehouse is struggling to get rid of tickets for a show, they might need to broker a deal with a company near the venue.
