I think the Phillies have a chance to get to the World Series this year, and if you get there, you can win it. I predict that with a good year from Pat Burrell and a much improved pitching staff, they will end Philly's 21 year world championship drought.

Clemens dominated the Giants today. He didn't need to retire. He did awesome last year. He'll be good this year. And as for Pettite. He's just one of the best pitchers in baseball right. Underrated and underappreciated.
watchtower86
04-07-2004, 10:59 PM
Pettite is not underrated or underappreciated. hes good, but dont call him underrated. its a righty's paradise, hes due for an off year. and just cause clemens dominated the giants, a team that has one dominant hitter and is not going to do anything special, big deal. he'll wear down over the season.

there are at least 4 teams better than the phils in the american league. World Series? I doubt it. It'd be an achievement for them just to win the east. Even though the Braves are down, it is still their division

^^ no no no no no.
acheivement? what are you smoking? seriously, its such a weak division. and the way they retooled their pen, and burrell is hitting the ball like ive never seen him, and added a solid lefty in milton. please its the braves. get out of here and quit with your southern bias.
the phils are my pick in the east not because i live in philly, but because theyre the best team, top to bottom. throw in the new stadium to boot, and this is their year

Giving Vlad protection like Garret Anderson, and Garret protection like Glaus (he's going to have a big year this year), it just makes these two hitters monsters. Vladimir looks like he's about to unleash his potential.

who do the braves even have? youre gonna call russ ortiz your ace? the guy had a 4.50 ERA last year, and had protection in that rotation. you also lost sheff and javy, two guys who combined for around 70 homers and a buttload of RBI for the team. all you have left is larry and andruw.

though i didnt say it on this poll, i said it elsewhere: starting 1-6 did not matter. the pitching was more than solid in those first 7 games, and they were hitting the ball hard, just directly at the defense. once the hits started falling the team was bound to be golden. and look at that, the hits are falling and theyre winning. o the joys of the season just beginning...

A million homers? Wow, that has to be some kind of record. And thanks for answering questions for me. It makes you look like more of a jackass. I have indeed seen two Phillies games this year. wow, 2 whole games??? that my friend, must be some kind of a record. so bowa going ballistic on an umpire constitutes his firing, even though hes always been like that. he will never be fired for standing up for his team. all of the players on the phillies get along with him right now, thats whey theyre here. they got rid of the ones who didn't get along with him, ie: scott rolen and tyler houston. and before anyone snidely says 'good move getting rid of rolen,' if they didn't trade him, jim thome and david bell would not be on this team. also they wouldn't have had room to sign abreu and a host of others.

Here's to making it 12 years in a row. :thumbsup And how many years in a row is this now that Philly is supposed to oust Atlanta? I've lost track.
actually this is the second year. two years ago there was the chance, last year we were supposed to, as well with this year. and yea, bowa will be there for the playoff run. trust me on that one.
and if i remember correctly, bobby cox gets thrown out of more games than anyone, therefore making your argument about why bowa will be gone, completely, and utterly...pointless

A million homers? Wow, that has to be some kind of record. And thanks for answering questions for me. It makes you look like more of a jackass. I have indeed seen two Phillies games this year. One of which Bowa went ballistic on the home plate ump. I never said anything about his calmness anyways to begin with. Don't jump up my ass on issues I didn't even bring up.

man every week it's a different story. Last week every single one of you were writing this season off as typical. Now you're acting the way you did before the season started, like they're the second coming of Christ. Let's take it easy, it's April. The world series isn't until October.
Heaven forbid we get excited about our team. If you are tired of the way we do it, don't come to this thread!

I'll buy that before I invest in the Phillies. Larry Bowa's out of there before July. Instability bodes poorly for success....
whys everyone saying bowa's gonna be fired?
if he was gonna be fired, i think it would've been after the terrible finish last year. Yes, there are fairly large expectations this year, but if the season goes to the tank, its because they dont have enough consistent hitting in the lineup (to make it to, and succeed in the playoffs), not because of poor coaching.

Great day at the ballpark today, got there around 10:30 just got back, It was a rough first for wolf, but back to back thome- burrell homers were alot of fun, I love the stadium, although it was super crowded (Ashburn alley) 44,376 ppl. Woulda been nice if they won but a good day.

and the phillies fielding has been attrocious the last two weeks, we were like the best team in the league and now all of the sudden we suck.....and we can't hit except 3 players who hit home runs and the thome can hit for average too. argh.

The first inning they sucked so much abreu didnt hustle as usually and perez and placido must have been drinking last night and didnt realize that had an early game.

The first inning they sucked so much abreu didnt hustle as usually and perez and placido must have been drinking last night and didnt realize that had an early game.no, abreu has been fine since wagner yelled at him, on the replay there was no way he was gonna catch it. abreu gets booed now because fans just like to boo anyone - i do it too. but with placido, he really did suck on the one play. the other he ran into tomas perez, but he should never have been anywhere near that ball, its the shortstops. and thome blew today as well with fielding. and the umping was terrible too.

Yes the umpires sucked! There were three questionable calls, thats not including balls and strikes.
edit: why couldnt bobby even try to lay out for that ball? He had burrell and marlon right behind him if he missed?

This win tonight puts the Phils at 2 games back of the Marlins, I think. Finally the bats are starting to get going. Good outing from Brett Myers as well.
