Look at some Ibanez and Seagull guitars - IMO the best quality/price combo. You can find great ones from about $300-600

Personally, I dont think so, but I just play for fun around the house. If you're going to be playing gigs, then its probably worth it...either that or get pickups put in.

A Seagull was my first acoustic. It had a very deep tone and was a great first acoustic guitar. I think it was an S6, and I paid $400 for it 5 years ago. I've also heard good things about Tacoma guitars....from WA I presume. Get an acoustic/electric if you plan on plugging in and playing with a band. If you're just playing open mics solo, you don't really need the electronics, as most open mics have an instrument mic to place at the soundhole. If you have an amp at home, you might as well get an acoustic/electric and get use out of the amp. Other acoustic brands to look at include Alvarez, Takameni (sp?), or even a low end Martin. Good luck.

A Taylor Big Baby or 110 are very nice, cheaper guitars. Also, Alvarez is a great bang for your buck guitar maker.

that's what i have, i like it.
i want to try to "upgrade" though to a martin for a warmer sound, or maybe a taylor for a crisper sound.
Stay away from low-end Martins. They're utter junk- you're paying most of the money for the name on the headstock.
Seagull makes a great entry-level guitar. The materials, construction, and playability are almost unmatched in that price range. Takamine isn't bad, either, and their electronics are among the best (that is, until Taylor's Expression System came out).

You're really going to have to try out the guitar you plan to get before you buy it...everyone likes a specific type of sound so you should try that one out and see if you like it. I'm not sure, but I think that one doesn't have quite as bright a tone as a few other Ibanez guitars around that price range...but give it a try.

if your looking for a quality guitar for not a lot of money go for an ibanez or a takamine. but if you really wanna break the bank get a martin or a taylor great awesome guitars. none of that low end shit though. as for electric/acoustic as it was said especially if you are gonna be playin gigs and stuff definitely worth it.

I am going to be buying a guitar in about a month....have it down to a couple, but will probably go with the Taylor 110, which is about $569

I highly recommend Alvarez.
I "upgraded" this past winter to a brand new alvarez AD90SCK for 630 with a hard shell case. It has a fat warm and bassy sound with a nice snapy feel ( i don't know how elso to describe it). The electronics are great; it has a dual source so you could add a mic if you wanted to and mix between the saddle and mic, also a buit in tuner.
and finally It looks bad ass, with a sharp cutaway, pearl inlays and satin finish.
Check them out!!

I have a lower end martin, I think I payed 350 for it. Well, its about a year old and there's already a bad fret. Its up on 16 or 17 so it doenst really bother me enough to have it fixed. I dont have much to compare my guitar to, considering the guy at the store basically picked it out for me.

Hi all, 1st post here. Anyhow, depending on the amount your looking to spend you should check out the 03 series from Larrivee. They are great guitars. IMO Martin,Taylor don't have anything that can touch the 03 series Larrivee in that price range. You should also check out getting a used guitar, you can get alot more guitar for your money that way and you'll find that there are alot of used ones that are in great shape.

I deffinately second the larivee suggestion.. I have one from the 05 series and it too is way better than anything I played in the price I got it for. It also think the buying used suggestion is a great idea. My Larivee was used but it is in perfect condition.
good luck

Didnt see anyone else mention it in here but for an inexpensive accoustic I love Yamahas. I think they feel and sound great and are put together well. Anyone else have an opinion on Yamahas?

I've got a friend who recently received a Yamaha acoustic. I can't remember the model at the moment, but it is one of the lower end ones, but it's also one of the nicest guitars I've played. Of course, my only experience is with my friends' guitars in the dorm, and most of us are on the broke side so we don't exactly have too much money to spend.

I would go with a martin D-15, and install a fishman natural pickup. All together it will run you like $600-$700 but IMO the sound is the best you are going to get for that price range.

I have never really played guitar, just fooled around on my friends'. Anyone have suggestions for a starter guitar? I don't want a piece of junk but i'm not ready to spend big bucks.
Thanks

In regarding a new guitar I would have to agree with some in saying that you really have to play the brand first. It is essential in establishing the tone you want to get out of your music. Everyones is different. I started with a 1974 Takamine of my fathers, but in time I found myself to slowly be staying from the Taks sound and more into a Martins tone.
For something in the 300-600 range I-I would look into a Martin, Tacoma, Seagull (as mentioned before), or a new one recently getting great reviews, a Dean Markley.
Anyway, I believe you really gotta decide that one on your own, but those are just my opinions on some great low-priced guitars.

Patrick

......almost forgot, dont put Takamine out of the picture. Even though my taste strayed, I believe if I could do it all over again I wouldnt change my first. Taks are great!
