He's continued to work with U2, he produced the soundtrack to the Spider Man musical. No matter what you think of some of the artists he's worked with, the results are always solid. I always point to Jason Mraz.. Steve did Mr. A-Z with a couple of songs by some other producer(s). The songs Steve did are very good, and I'm not a big fan of Jason Mraz, but I dug the shit of the songs he did. Some of his most recent work besides Spider-man is Beady Eye and you can't deny the quality, whether you like the artist in question or not.

He hasn't lost his touch... far from it.

I guess you could kind of look at BTCS as Lillywhite's stepping stone from working with DMB on recording their old material to having them create new music being that half the album is new and the other half evolved from earlier songs or ideas. tLWS would have been his first album with the band that was almost completely new. So this new album should be interesting... I hope most of it's new material

good info. I would love to see this kind of summary for UTTAD and Crash.

I agree. My comment was distasteful. And if Rashawn has dropped a few, i'm glad for him. Not easy to fo at all.

I'd rather the band take the chance than not

there really isn't a summary for UTTAD and Crash. they were both made up of songs that were already played at shows. Too Much was the last written song on Crash, according to the song tour. that debuted, as did Crash Into Me and #41, at a show in 1995, before Crash was released. and i don't see any UTTAD written after about early 1993, and the album didn't come out until 1994.

is it just me or is rhyme & reason not listed on the song tour?

I'll try:

Crash:
SMTS - was around since 1992
Two Step - was around since 1992
Crash - first played D&T in 9/95 with unfinished lyrics - would have been around the time of the Crash sessions.
Too Much - first played at charity show in 10/95 during the studio sessions. Being that it is credited to the entire band it is likely that it musically came from soundcheck jams.
#41 - the base was around since Spring 95 (called 41 Police) and was developed over the summer tour. Became the 41 we know in the studio.
Say Goodbye - had been around and developed on the road since Fall 1993.
DIDO - was sparingly played from 92-94 and then really developed on the road in 1995.
LYD - as per the minarets digest - John Alagia stated that Dave wrote LYD at his home in 1994
LIOG - had existed since spring 92
Cry Freedom - had existed since 1991
Billies - had existed since 1991
Proudest Monkey - debuted in 12/94 and then developed over the course of 1995

Every song on UTTAD had been played in the years prior to going into the studio. The only song that you could probably say needed finishing was R&R.

In hindsight, how little they seemed to like LYD should have been obvious. It was written in 1994 and played by Dave solo in December 1994 and then nothing until 9/95. They went out of their way to play DIDO, Say Goodbye, #41, SMTS in 95, but not LYD and then don't play it during an album promotion tour until 12/96. Makes you wonder if the only reason it was put on the album was they had nothing else to use.

I don't understand why people want these done again. We already have studio versions of them, and in the case of JTR, we have TWO studio versions.

i think its more of the fact that if they go back to them and they are released, then that means they will get played with somewhat regularity. alligator pie went missing in 2010 for some reason, but it got a healthy 32 plays in the summer of 09. and you know that SOMETHING (probably several somethings) from that album tour will be released, which would mean SBD releases of live versions of those songs (argument mainly for something like Monkey Man). and then if they continued getting played in the following year, even better.

Was studio Help Myself recorded under the guidance of Lillywhite? Or was it self-done by the band?

The 'nac has R&R listed for '93 and '94. Where were you looking?

:thumbsup Yeah, justink, I respectfully disagree with you on MM; I think it's one of the best songs from tLWS and I don't just say that because its a rarity. Fonz is on fire, the songwriting is so developed, Roi is fluent and natural, and I personally like the lyrics. Granted, no Boyd, but I'm sure that'd be coming if only Lillywhite could finish.

Dinosaurs need keeping in the past. Macca had George Martin back on some of those early eighties albums, too late the magic had gone. DMB could do with recording over here in the UK get Youth in a top producer
