Drum microphones
I an the audio director at a church, and I need to get new mics. I MAY want to get the Audix DP Elite 8 kit with the SCXone mics. I may mix and match... I want new Tom mics for sure, and new overheads. Carter uses the VP88, which sounds awesome on Shure's website... I'm think I want a single point stereo mic like the VP88... Anyone had any experience with mics?
Currently, we have the following: Kick: Shure Beta 52 Snare: Shure SM57 HiHat: Shure Beta56 (or from OHR) Tom1, 2, 3: Sennheiser e604 Overheads: DPA 4098 (choir mics... yes... choir mics... they sound AMAZING!!) or Shure KSM27 |

Re: Drum microphones
When I can, I totally will... For what it's worth, I didn't love the D6. It sounded whooshy... :/ With my Beta52, I got good punch and attack. Solid kick. The D6 was kind of weak. I had to go get our Beta 91 and put it in the kick to get some attack back. I normally side on a single mic for kick only because it's easier for my volunteers.

Re: Drum microphones
Have you tried the Sennheiser e901 / e902 combo for your kick? Isn't that was Carter uses?

Re: Drum microphones
I've not used the 901/902 combo... I know I will just need to experiment more with adjustments. Looking at the frequency response chart, it looks like the 902 will be closer to the Beta 52 than the D6 is... but I have a Beta 52 that I like... If I can't find a sweet spot for the D6, I'll switch back to the 52. I don't regret not going with Sennheiser. What I need is a Yamaha SubKick!! ;) Not really.

Re: Drum microphones
Yamaha Subkicks are awesome! I made my own. They capture so much that you have to roll most of the bottom end off or you just get an instant headache.
