Epic Songs
this is inspired by eric(h)'s post saying he doesnt like freebird, stairway to heaven and Hotel california.
Well, all of those songs are considered epic, so what are your favorite "epic" songs. Epic songs IMO are songs that are great live and are nice and long. here's a short list to get started. Stairway to Heaven-zeppelin Hotel California-eagles Freebird-skynyrd Sunday Bloody Sunday-U2 |
Re: Epic Songs

How about an epic album?
"Throwing Copper" by +LIve+ has one of the grandest, most epic sounds I've ever heard on an album. |

Re: Epic Songs
Stairway, yes I enjoy it, just because I don't listen to radio or the song alot.
Hotel California is ..eh..ok. Freebird, and every other Skynard song, blows hard. Sweet Home Alabama and Tuesdays Gone are horrible, especially. U2 stuff is ok. What's Eruption? (seriously) EDIT: shit..wrong thread. |
Re: Epic Songs
Aerosmith - Dream On
Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (wow, can't believe I said that!) |

Re: Epic Songs
I don't presume "epic" should simply mean "a really long song". "Epic" means a lot more. With that:
Rush - Xanadu Rush - 2112 Overture |

though Flod - Shine On You Crazy Diamond is pretty epic, IMHO |
Re: Epic Songs
R.E.M. "Let Me In"

Re: Epic Songs
a song that might not be well known can be epic, its more about the sound of the song, not the popularity
|
Re: Epic Songs
ehhh, maybe. i wont argue since you made the thread, but i think your first 4 selections were right on the money

Re: Epic Songs
I can think of a few from the same album that might fit

I will listen to the whole of Throwing Copper just to make the huge rockers on the album (i.e. "Iris", "The Stage", "White Discussion") and the final cut (that country ballad, whatever it is) sound that much more powerful. It was one of the first albums I ever listened to that seemed so much weaker when any given song was pulled out of context and removed from the patchwork of the whole product. I cannot agree with you more in that statement. An epic song? Yes by Spanova. But no one here probably knows what that is. Another? The Twistinside by Everclear. Blood on the Motorway by DJ Shadow. The Road to LostWithiel by Bt. |
