Re: Live Trax Vol. 40 - 12.21.02 Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY
The ATCS standard was approved for 720p60 and 1080i60 broadcasts in North America in the 90s, HD cameras were in use shortly before Y2K.
HD cameras were not at 12.21.02, but the $5 premium for the Blu-ray is still worth it because:
1) Uncompressed (PCM) or lossless (Dolby TrueHD/dts-HD Master Audio) 16/48 surround sound, far superior to 448 Kbps Dolby Digital.
2) 40 Mbps AVC/MPEG-4 video codec vs. archaic 4-6 Mbps MPEG-2 will result in a cleaner picture devoid of typical DVD artifacting (pixelation, macroblocking, poor shadow detail)
Non-technical reason: sales may determine whether Blu-ray option is offered for future shows, obviously any new-ish show will have an HD source as Filament have been filming in HD since before 2010.
