I think what happens a lot is (and this applies to both men and women) but if you have multiple options, and there is a clear #1 and #2 in the pecking order then you hang on to #2 just in case #1 doesn't work out. Once again, it's a shitty thing to do, but I guarantee you many times that's what is going on.
