Woodlands Pavilion

It has been 10 years since I've seen DMB. First time without Leroi Moore. I felt his absence.

As soon as Dave took the stage, and opened with "Big Eyed Fish", I knew it would be a mellow night. They played some good songs and the band definitely jammed. But it was a slower show. I'm used to dancing my ass off for hours straight. Nothing was played from "Under The Table". I wanted "Rhyme or Reason" or "Tripping Billies" or "Ants Marching". Something totally light and fun and hard-core. But, what they did play was good. And I was pleased to see the band. Stefan looked a little older (in a good way), but the others looked the same.

I was pleased to hear the songs...pleased to be with the fans...pleased to be part of the energy!

The opening band was really great. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. Woodlands Pavilion is a wonderful venue. Lots of sunshine and breeze and just an intimate setting.

Overall, I'm glad I went. Don't think I'll ever see them again. Different time, different life. Will always hold the younger days in my deepest heart. And I still and forever will love DMB.

Re: Woodlands Pavilion

I havent seen them since 2005 and I was thinking the same thing. I dont know if it will feel the same without Leroi and his absence will definitely be felt. I also feel it was my younger days too and as much as I love the music, I stopped going when cell phones got in the way of the stage. lol But I am glad you got to go back and see them again!!!
The fans are great but being almost forty I feel like they are getting younger and I am not. I have a hard time keeping up sometimes! I do miss that energy though...nothing can compare to it!!

Re: Woodlands Pavilion

Hi,

i`m a bit astohished about comparing the old DMB to the "newer" one.

For myself, i`ve seen the band the first time in Brussels in 2007 with Leroi and three times with Jeff Coffin here in Europe. I always liked Leroi playing, but with Jeff Coffin, i can`t find a loss in power and sound. He fits the gap perfectly.

Besides i think, the band is getting better since 2007 with Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds. Although i started with the band in 1999, i don`t listen very often to the "old" recordings. I enjoy the "newer", more powerful versions, with a fuller sound, wonderful trumpetparts, a tighter section in the back and Tims solos. Whenever i listen to songs such as seek up, two step, ymdt, proudest monkeys and many more, they sound so much better these days that i won`t miss the old days.

I know, i`m offtopic....but i understand the "different time, different life"-part. I have the same with some of my former favorite bands.
