Got it.

Edit: I'm in the camp it's a mixture of Brian and Peter.

I hear a lot more Peter than Brian, but I do hear a bit of Brian when he's at work.

Re: Seth MacFarlane's movie debut (TedC)

I thought Seth himself was going to be in the movie...I think that'd be kinda funny. This is basically Paul, but with a Seth switch. The voice sounds like a blend between Peter and Brian. I think maybe this might be worth wasting time if I'm high.

Yes, this is pretty similar to a movie where an alien gets stuck on Earth and is hunted down across the country by the FBI. In that they're both movies with things that talk.

Kinda my point. The whole, "it's not supposed to talk, but it does" thing is not funny. Now, what redeems this is that it actually is, but in and of itself, it's not funny. Same thing with Paul. Animals and things talking really is old.

The movie wasn't as funny as I expected it to be. It had it's hilarious moments but it wasn't all that hilarious. However, it was a better all around movie than I expected it to be. I enjoyed it.

I really thought it was a decent movie. I didn't think it tried too hard to be serious at all. I thought it pulled off what it wanted to decently well but all in all it was a good comedy and a good movie. Nothing great but not bad.

Re: Seth MacFarlane's movie debut (TedC)

It definitely had it's moments (the store part with the food and hand lotion), but some parts I think it tried to hard.

If you go in with absolutely 0 expecations, I think you'll find it can be hilarious at times.

I think the seriousness was part of the humor. Yeah they made this seem like such a serious situation but then when you think about it as a fucking teddy bear I kind of thought he was poking fun at how stupid movies can be.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. Wahlberg is best when he isn't taking himself too seriously. Also it was awesome seeing him break out the Marky Mark moves

I thought this movie was absolutely hilarious and I wouldn't really classify myself as a Seth McFarlane fan.

More than I've laughed at a comedy in quite awhile.

Does Ted sing at any point in the movie? If he does I'm walking out of the theater, so I'd appreciate if someone saved me the $.

Re: Seth MacFarlane's movie debut (TedC)

Much to my own chagrin, because ultimately I think Seth McFarlane is fairly overrated and I've got no shortage of issues with Family Guy as a whole (why I stopped watching it with any level of regularity some time ago) but I have to admit, the trailers for this have indeed made me laugh. That's still not saying I'll actually pay to see this in the theater (I almost certainly won't) but I wouldn't mind catching up with it at some point.

I think more than anything Wahlberg makes this movie work. He's one of a few guys that is hilarious while remaining subtle about it.

Well okay I guess I shouldn't have said "no shortage of issues", because it's not really like it's that many different things. My main problem is really, and it seems to be a sort of generational thing (as in, say, people 30 years and younger right now) of automatically equating random with funny. That really bothers me. And the show's obviously famous for the cutaways, for me only a very small percentage of them work on any sort of level. Most often times, it is itself very random and has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Ultimately I think it comes down to just lazy writing, their staff so often isn't talented or diligent enough to come up with a genuine 22ish minutes of compelling and funny narrative, so they toss in these random asides to fill that gap. Although, plenty of the episodes I've bothered to watch in the last couple years, even aside from the cutaways, many simply haven't been very funny as the whole narrative itself.

edit: oh and also of a course a major thing, McFarlane having a joke go on for waaaaaaaaaay too fucking long. Mind you, depending on the joke, extending it past the time span the viewer would normally expect it to be CAN indeed be funny, but again, he uses it more I think as a crutch at this point, and it's almost always the wrong choice, comedically speaking.
