I understand the history of thank you at alpine but it pigeon holes you with that song. Thank you isn't a horrible song by any means but it's a turd compared to many songs dmb uses to close shows usually.

Alpiners seem to like to gift wrap this turd because of its history. A gift wrapped turd is still a turd. Spacers might as well gift wrap Dreamgirl 09 to make it sound like it was awesome.

None of this is directed at you. It's just a tangent off of you saying you wish you got Halloween.

Thanks OP for filling in the blanks for me. I was VERY aware of Dave wearing the glasses and SO badly wanted the story behind it. I never would have imagined it going down as it did.

Before N1 began, I was waiting for the gates to open so I could get to the front of the pit. I decided to take a picture of me in my orange sunglasses. Me and my best friend actually got a set of those sunglasses in all different colors and we have been exchanging them and stuff I miraculously scored Pit for both nights! I did the mad dash down there and I was about 4th row center. Perfect view. As I was standing there, I was thinking about how cool it would be if Dave wore my sunglasses if I threw them up on stage.

As soon as the Crush jam began, I saw an opportunity for Dave to dance while wearing the sunglasses. I threw them up there and he actually picked them up and set them right next to Carter's set! However, he never did anything with them the rest of the night. It was a great show but I just kept wondering what happened to my shades.

N2 was the best show I've ever seen. Hands down. I don't think anything will ever beat it. Incredible performances. About halfway through that show, I spotted my shades in the same spot where Dave had set them before. I freaked out! Then, during Thank You... Dave walked back towards the Carter and grabbed my fucking sunglasses and put them on! Best DMB moment ever. I died. The band really put on some special shows for Alpine.

Also, I caught a pick from Brandi Carlile. And, if any of you in the pit remember N1 when the crew member threw out the pick into the crowd, I got that too! It's really odd though because the firedancer is like faded away from it.

Here's some awesome pictures of me and Dave in the shades. And of the pick I caught. Best weekend ever!

Attachment 62648

EDIT: Also, for any of you guys who didn't notice. Fonz retweeted the picture I sent of me in the shades!
Haters gonna hate, *I* think it's a fun story. Great pics too!

I was this tweet the other day. Very cool. Added to the song if anything it was funny. Sucks you lost your shades though

Yes, fun story indeed. I'd have had fun as well. Now can we quit throwing things at the band?

Re: The story of Dave's Thank You sunglasses at Alpine!

You guys are crazy. I know everybody is different but I rate my shows on how good of a time I have. Hell, I've seen some shows with killer setlists where I had a shitty time so I just didn't like the show because I wasn't able to enjoy myself. I had the most fun at Alpine N2 this year than any other show I've ever been to. I've seen Halloween before. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing it again but that's one of those songs I'm fine with not seeing it every show. I do feel bad for the people who were hoping for their first Halloween but to the people who weren't there, I don't really care what you guys think. I had a kickass time. I know stories like this have been told before but I thought it'd be cool for the people who were there to know where the shades came from.

I was shaggy for Halloween a couple years ago I get that a lot.

Edit: Not that I give a fuck, but I do hate throwing shit on stage too. But by shit, I mean glow sticks or other stupid shit. Hats/sunglasses/masks are cool because Dave gets a kick out of using those. If he didn't, he wouldn't have done it in the past. So Dave obviously doesn't care. But trust me, I fucking hate glow sticks with a burning passion.

People need to understand that this is DMB 3.0. You will never have 1.0 (91-00) or 2.0 (2001-2007) ever again. Just enjoy what you have while you still have it.

Re: The story of Dave's Thank You sunglasses at Alpine!

Op you would have received a much better response if you reworked the story to make it a little more negative

"So I found these stupid fucking sunglasses on the ground during Ftwii and I thought wow these are retarded and I was gonna throw them on the ground and stomp on them but then I thought hey what if I threw them onstage maybe Dave would see them and call whoever was wearing them a dipshit but instead he wore them during Thank You. Whatever."

So you threw a douchy pair of sunglasses on stage and Dave wore them... why is it so cool?

Def cool you got a pic (that looks like it was pretty used) and you lost your sunglasses...

Re: The story of Dave's Thank You sunglasses at Alpine!

Not a bad story.

But, really... don't throw stuff on the stage. I don't think the band LIKES it at all. They tolerate it (most of the time), sure, because they don't want to come off as a mean schoolteacher scolding the kids.

I think it's a little barbaric, personally, to be tossing things at a group of people performing for us. Just seems like a lack of respect.

I could be in the minority, though.
