Re: AFTW cover
Wow, I don't post much, but this thread seems more negative then usual and I don't get it. I was hoping to find an interesting discussion about the album art and I feel like I'm on a youtube comments thread. I don't know why album art is making people so angry. It's kind of depressing that people get so worked up in an angry way about it. I'm not saying you have to like the art, I just don't understand the really strong negative reaction to it. It's interesting that Dave seems to have included the many angry people on this thread in the bottom-middle of the box.
I personally really like it, but don't love it, as of now. I think I will like it even more when I hear the album and can pull out parts from songs that the art references. It is cool that Dave hand drew it, which means he likely put thought and effort into it. I also feel the need to comment that I don't understand why people are making such strong connections between the art and the music. I am not saying they are completely unrelated, but I have never judged a music album by its artwork and I think it would be pointless to do so.
I also love Mercy and Gaucho. Especially Gaucho...that song rules. I have never understood the negative reaction to WAYG. It isn't the band's best work, but I like the multiple meanings from it and always thought it was a beautiful guitar riff, even though it is very simple. I guess I am just happy that DMB still exists and is still touring and putting out new material after all these years. I have no real expectations and just kind of try to take what they put out as the art that it is. They shouldn't be making it solely to please me, they should be making it because they are moved to do so. Fortunately, that seems to be the case of why they are doing it. When I look at it from that perspective, I really appreciate, and have grown to really like, if not love, all of the band's newer material, album art included.
