Re: What irritates you?

People need to just get over it and stop getting upset over things that don't apply to them at all. There is no rule that in order to properly celebrate Thanksgiving, you have to be at home with your family.

I've done the Thursday night/Black Friday thing and got exactly what I wanted at the time, which was an awesome TV at a huge discount. The last two years, I haven't been lured into a deal that made me want to "fight" the crowds but I totally understand why people do it.

Oh, and while I was doing this, I was with my sister and sister in law, so still spending time with family. It just so happened that we were done eating and instead of doing nothing, decided to be productive and snag some deals.

You think it's so easy for a mother or father with a family to feed and bills to pay to just snap their fingers and change jobs? It's not.

And getting paid does not replace having a nice family holiday.

It sucks for a lit of people, life is hard for a lot of people. It is what it is but you don't need to be callous and insensitive towards them.

Every year my girlfriend and her mother go out at like midnight after Thanksgiving has concluded and do a majority of their X-mas shopping and they always get fantastic deals. If the opportunity is there, people are going to take advantage of it. It's not greedy of business owners and companies to provide a product/service when there's high demand for it.

I worked at Outback in high school for some side cash. I had to work three Christmas Eves in a row. It sort of sucked not being with my family, but I spent the whole day with them on Christmas Day and I made some serious dough. I knew going in that it was a requirement to be available on certain holidays. If I didn't like it that much, I could have quit.

Key words side cash. Some people cant afford to just up and leave a job, even though they want to spend a day with their families.

The idiocy of young, dumb kids... Watched a minor get caught with beer in a bar tonight. Cop sees him and chucks him and his friends out. Once outside they are told to leave the premises. Kid actually tries to start a fight with the cop. Cop ends up placing him in handcuffs to restrain him, releases him, only writes him a ticket. Kid puffs up again and tries to fight the cop again!! Finally dudes friends drag him away. How stupid can you be?? You could have gotten an MIP but instead were told just to go away... This kid was aching for a trip to jail.

Nope. Sorry. You end up working Black Friday because of your own life choices. Mother or father with the family to feed should have made better choices if they didn't want to work BF.

No one is complaining about Black Friday... we're talking about places being open on Thanksgiving now.

    Please stop.

I work at one of the biggest banks in the country, back office, not retail. We're open on BF, I had to use my own time to be off. Not everybody who works on BF is some poor schmuck who works at McDonald's or the mall because they have no other choice.

Let's all just stop being so judgmental, shall we??

    Re: What irritates you?

The bottom line is that most people spend their lives in corporate slavery and live blissfully unaware of it. Very few people in this country make above $20 an hour while the CEO of their company gets paid several times their lifetime salary in a year alone. How is that fair? Ultimately, however, if someone really doesn't want to work Black Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ramadan, Jewish Holiday #5, Kwanzaa, International Buddha Day, or Satan Saturday then no one is going to make them. If you really don't want to work, don't. You might quit, or have to get fired, or lose holiday/time off pay, but at least you're sticking to your guns. If you are letting the company you work for control your life then you need a fucking backbone, whoever you are. Your company does not give a shit about you. You're no longer personnel, you're a fucking human resource now. Resources are what the company owns. They wouldn't pay you if there wasn't a law requiring it. I have worked several Black Fridays in retail. It is at this time that the Lemming, Jumping Off a Cliff mentality of humans is evident.

So this morning I get out nice and early raking leaves and step in a huge pile of what I hope is dogshit and not human shit on my lawn. Other people's dogs shitting on my lawn irritate me. Also, people that let their dogs run loose. If I see that dog, I'm going to capture it and take it to the pound. No fucking excuses. I'm a huge dog person, but there's a leash law for a reason. We're in city limits. You can't let your dog run loose. About a few times a year it's on the news here where someone letting their pitbull run loose that killed someone's dog or mauled someone.

    Fine print.

I was supposed to on a flight to Rome right now. Booked our trip via Costco.

Apparently, in the EU, you cannot travel if your passport expires less than three months to the date of your return. My wife's was a week shy of that. Nowhere is this listed on Costco Travel or Air France.....just that you must have a valid passport...apparently the term "valid" is up for interpretation.

So trip had to be 100% canceled.

Awes dude, Paulie... sorry about that man!!

Seriously though, what's the reasoning for that? Who gives two shits if your PP expires three months after you get home, it was 100% valid while you were abroad

I honestly have no idea why it's a rule. Apparently, there are some countries in Asia that demand 6 months.

It looks like we are getting about 70% back of our money. Fighting for more obviously. Just really blows. Was really looking forward to this trip.

I work in logistics and will be working on Friday. Stuff still needs to be moved but if we weren't open, I'm sure it would still be okay until the following Monday but I bet another company would be the ones moving it. Not really mad about it though, just wish I got extra pay and could sleep in for once, but since I'm salary, it won't happen. I also have to work Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas and NYE and the 2nd.

Almost everyone works NYE. Typically places that have to work day after TG or Xmas eve, receive other holidays off that I don't. Typically it's financial firms. What's your company?

Nowhere is this listed on Costco Travel or Air France.....just that you must have a valid passport...apparently the term "valid" is up for interpretation.

So trip had to be 100% canceled.
Didn't know you could book a trip through Costco, what's next, booking trips through Wal-Mart, Tar-shay, and K-Mart? Although I like Costco because they treat their workers like people and not human resources, I'd never book a trip through them. Generally rule of thumb, the larger the corporation, the harder it will screw you over.

Not really mad about it though, just wish I got extra pay and could sleep in for once, but since I'm salary, it won't happen. I also have to work Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas and NYE and the 2nd.
I would never take a salaried job unless the hours were clearly spelled out and overtime was set at 40 hours per week, not 50 or 60. It ends up working out to a lower pay rate than you'd earn on an hourly wage then...and most people regret taking a salary. My buddy manages a store in the mall and he is working every day of November until the end of January, from open to close (10am or 11am until 8pm or 10pm) So that's up to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week...guy makes 28,000 salary. That's ridiculous.

Chinese people will drive through anything. I had a delivery during an 8 inch snow storm here in SC. I tipped him 10 dorra on a $15 order.

Not to mention every salaried position I know means overtime ineligible, not overtime eligible after a certain number of hours.

Salary isn't a bad thing. Most adults I know are on salary jobs. A 28k salary job just sounds like it's crappy anyways though.

Yeah but the overwhelming, vast majority of jobs out there are hourly wage, and part-time (thanks, Obama). Around here most jobs that were full-time are now 29 hours. The guy I mentioned works retail management, so take it for what its worth - not very much. Retail is just horrible. Not sure I could do it in person again without beating the shit out of an irate customer if the day was going badly enough...not sure where my skillset went, but I have zero tolerance for people's bullshit now. It's truly sad that consumers and employees alike fail to see how they are little more than slave labor for evil corporations who have contributed little to society and wouldn't so much as give away feces if they know they could get a dollar for it...but hey, corporations are people, too...they just have more rights.

Sorry for the rant. Down with the man!
