    no.

in fact, I don't even think it holds up well. Watched it about 2 yrs ago and it aged poorly. And I really liked it a lot; still do, but not a classic.

I don't always agree with you on things, but that's cool, because everyone is different. But in the words of Monday Night Countdown, come on, man!

Don't know how anyone can say Forrest Gump has not objectively achieved classic movie status and keep a straight face.

I hate The Seven Samurai. The movie is still a classic.

I loved it the first 3 or so times I saw it. I read the book. Hell, I was in Tuscaloosa when people used to call my TV station and ask for footage of Forrest playing

when I watched it a few years back, the graphics looks kinda kinchy, and it made me realize that the movie was basically a green-screen test. It's a cutesy movie and I still like it, but I can't bring myself to put it in my 'classic' realm.

to put it in another way, you know how in Slumdog Millionare you went "ah... I get it," that's how Gump almost feels. It's better than Slumdog but not an all time best. Not every Best Picture winner is a classic.

but I will put Hanks in another classic that I forgot... Private Ryan is a classic. the beach scene alone makes it such.

Forrest Gump is absolutely a classic.

Couldn't even begin to count the amount of times I've heard "Momma always said..." quoted, much less the rest of that movie.

I'm interested to hear what Jake considers a classic. I've always thought it was something that will stand the test of time and be considered good/great decades later.

um... yea. And I said I watched it a few years back and it looked ungreat. That's why I couldn't consider it.

I think I can put Few Good Men on there the more I think of it. Hell, I'm in a giving mood so I'll put Risky Business on there too. That's a great era film of the hard-R teen film.

but Forrest.... not ready to pull the trigger. If it's on Netflix I'll try it again.

To be fair, i wrote and posted my post before I saw your response on Forrest Gump.

I guess I'm just way more forgiving on flick being considered "classics"

Jurassic Park, Good Will Hunting, Chasing Amy, Saving Private Ryan, All 3 Toy Stories, Forrest Gump, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13, Castaway, Oceans 11, Fight Club, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Dark Knight, ect. ect.

Those are all flicks I will be making my kid watch one day (if and when i have children), just as much as I would be making them watch Wizard of Oz, Godfather I & II, Lion King, & The Sting.

Stick Children of Men, The Birdcage, and Young Frankenstein in there for good measure.

    The Mod Squad (1999)

Cool soundtrack and actors that should receive more roles. 3/5

Oh, and Forrest Gump is 100% classic; it's solid as a film can get.

That's totally fine, but that's also not really what I was asking. There are some movies that can be debated as far as whether or not they have achieved classic status among the general public, which is why I brought the topic up. I would say Forrest Gump is pretty undebatable and your story about the TV station speaks volumes to the impact Forrest Gump has had on pop culture.

Forrest Gump is a horrible movie, but it's still a classic. Tons of shit movies achieved "classic" status.

It's less a movie more than it is just a pastiche of scenes of pop culture. I had no emotional investment in the film at all.

We often have differing opinions... lol. I had plenty of emotional investment. I saw it in the theater when I was a early teenager, when Jenny died, I would have balled my eyes out had I not been in public.

I was four when it came out. I didn't like it the first time I saw it when I was eight, and that has carried over my whole life. Pulp got screwed over that year.

I watch To Live and Die in LA the other day, an all time favorite. I can't believe I forgot to pimp it out in here. Such a perfect movie, I even like the Wang Chung score.

Bo is correct. If you eliminate the green screen scenes, it's just a 'special' guy telling stories.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I like Forest Gump but I can agree with what Bo is saying. I don't like how the film, at times, feels like a spoof--I'm thinking about when Lt. Dan is riding in his wheel chair in New York and he nearly gets hit by a taxi and says "Hey, I'm walking here!" and we hear "Everybodys Talkin" of course that's a homage to Midnight Cowboy, which I think is kind of stupid. But despite that scene, I still like the film and would still call it a classic.

I don't think Forrest Gump is horrible. However, I do believe it is overrated. At the very least, the characters have an arc.....unlike a certain movie this year.

However, it should definitely be considered a classic.
