Wtf california getting all these recruits. Good for the competetiveness for the pac I guess.

Jamal Murray visiting UK. Would feel great about next year's team if he commits.

In an offseason full of weird commits, this is the strangest. I mean, you could go anywhere...and purdue?

Don't think so. Came out and quickly shot down the Pellies rumor. I think he's content at Kentucky. He would probably take a pay cut to go to the NBA

I think he'd leave for a Coach / GM position, but he's past the point of jumping to the NBA to only be a coach.

Why would anyone want Cap as an NBA coach? First, even if he took a pay cut, you'd still have to pay him 7+ million per year. Second, his greatest strength as a coach - recruiting - is basically useless as an NBA coach. He turned down 90 million or so last year from the Cavs (although if he knew Lebron was coming back, he might of taken that deal), so I think he is smart enough to know that his skills translate better to college.

I admit I'm biased but outside of a few jobs, I don't see why a highly successful college coach at an elite program would want to coach in the NBA. You're basically third in line behind the GM and star player and you can go far in the playoffs and still get fired.

How many games this year did Cal have to do anything other than roll the ball out and let his guys win? 5? 10?

Professional sports requires you to be on top of your game every night. The scrubs are still damn good.

Pretty sure Cal built the entire team that he just "rolled the ball out for"

OK. But that isn't coaching. That is recruiting. So a COACH might want to be challenged every night instead of 5 times a year.

College and Pro are way different. If coaching is what you like, pro's is a way bigger challenge.

Would think Calipari would disagree that trying to go 40-0 last year wasn't a challenge.

Maybe because you are third in line? The college coach schedule has to be way more demanding than an NBA coach, constantly recruiting, staying on top of eligibility, babysitting college kids, hiding the paper trail of payouts (shhh).

I could see some appeal to being an NBA coach. Not if you actually enjoying teaching, but if you enjoy the spotlight, getting paid well and the groupies may be more ruthless, but you can be more certain they are all 18.

    I'm not saying it wasn't a challenge.

How much coaching did he need to do for Grand Canyon, Boston University, Montana State, UT-Arlington, Providence, Eastern Kentucky, Columbia, Missouri (x2), Alabama (x2), Vanderbilt, South Carolina (x2), Tennessee, Auburn (x2), Mississippi State, and Hampton?

The offseason schedule sucks more for a college coach (basically the recruiting, but it's much, much worse for college football coaches), but the in season schedule for pro a coach vs college coach, pro is much more demanding - with the playoffs, they are playing over double and sometimes triple the amount of games a typical college team plays.

Totally true, but Cal didn't have to worry much about those extra games in the NBA.

So Cal should be frustrated by the fact that he built a team so good it basically just had to show up to win those games?

The thing is, that's not even true. Cal coached his ass off every game trying to get the team ready for March. I would say that trying to run basically an entire college basketball program and then consistently having to mold a new team every year is a pretty big challenge.

The NOA was about as good as could have possibly been hoped for regarding the men's basketball team

Everything I've read has the football team getting hammered and the basketball team getting a slap on the wrist (scholarships, etc..). Banners & postseason eligibility appear to be safe and that's all that really matters.

wouldn't say postseason eligibility is "safe," but yeah the NOA wasn't awful

football is bad, and women's basketball is by far the worst offender

    yes honestly it's too early

too much leeway with the LOIC charge being against...well, who is it against, really? I don't think the NCAA has any authority over carolina's academic system. I guess that's never stopped them before though.

the impermissible benefits thing seems very flimsy. the majority of kids in those classes were not athletes, so how is that a benefit not generally available to the student body?

they're claiming it's because athletes were given priority to be in those classes in the first place, as well as the fact that they received additional "help" that other students would not have gotten

I think that they went with improper benefits so that they didn't have to try to prove academic fraud or ineligibility

those rule changes that were proposed a few weeks back were passed

at least I think all of them were.

30-second clock, 4-foot restricted area, fewer TOs were all passed
