I had a great time at Bristow this weekend and it was my 50th show dating back to December 2000. Was it the best show I've ever seen? No, probably doesn't break my top ten. But there was still plenty to like about it and I thoroughly enjoyed my evening. And I derived more of my enjoyment from music than from alcohol.

Where's the reality check you're talking about? Alpine used to routinely sell out both nights withing days of going on sale, now they can't come even close to capacity.

2005 N1 had a rumored 40,000+ there, with people spilling off the back end of the lawn where it starts descending to the parking lot, now they'll be lucky to have 25,000 there each night.

The band is quickly declining in popularity. Will there be people at the shows? Absolutely, there will always be people there, but they're losing ground and quick. Bands like Bruce, Phish, Rolling Stones, etc. keep selling out shows because they put on a great live product, DMB just doesn't do that anymore, hence the strong decline in ticket sales. This may be one of the last amphitheater tours for the band.

So tell me, where is the reality check? Because some people still get drunk and fucked up at shows? Please. All the facts and attendance stats are there that DMB just isn't anywhere close to what they once were.

Chicago actually sold out both nights last year. Think it was 30,000 each night too.

The join date argument is irrelevant. When I joined has nothing to do with my opinion or knowledge of the band.

As for comparing DMB to some of those other acts, DMB is still working to come out with relevant music, so touring is going to show that. The nostalgia act might work for most of us, but obviously the band is not thinking that way.

As for selling out venues, no one is even playing Alpine anymore, so selling it out is a lot to ask. And DMB tours more than most acts, so that changes the dynamic too.
