Two Step from Jones Beach - VIDEO and poll for DVD

This video of from the start of Tim's solo all the way through the end of the song. It was shot with a Kodak Zx1 camera, which takes HD video. The memory card should have enough room to record an entire show, but I didn't have a tripod, and I never even used the camera before, so JB was just a test. This video was zoomed in about 2-3x I believe. So I don't know if leaving it at normal view would make a difference. Also, I don't have any way of viewing HD video, so I don't know how well the video actually is. So I need your opinions. If I were to film an entire concert with this camera, would it make for a good DVD??

Go for it Jason.

I would pay you big bucks (well, e-bucks but anyway) for a quality pull of the two Camden shows this year.

funny you should say that for Camden. who has 12th row boyd's side for N1?? i wonder.......

but do you really think that that video is high enough quality?? the video is the size of my entire screen, but i don't know if it would look any better on something HD compatible, or how it would look on just a normal tv.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that is not HD.

Re: Two Step from Jones Beach - VIDEO and poll for DVD

I use a panasonic lumix tz5 for my videos. They have turned out quite well. I do not take much hd because of the time limitations of the file.

You can see one hd vod I took on my youtube link. I sat reasonably close at msg and was second section pavilion at Hartford and Alpine.

I do have 10x zoom and a 40x extra zoom that turns out okay. 2 or 3 does not cut it unless you are real close.

Youtube is still a compressed version of your original video, right? I'm sure if you took the original files and burned it to a DVD it would look better than what is shown up on Youtube..... HD option or not....

all that matters to me with a dvd is that the sound is good and that the camera doesnt shake. and obviously the picture has to be somewhat good. but i have when i watch a dvd with terrible sound

Not as compressed as you would think. They should still look a lot better than that if it is truly HD.

I'm guessing it's not HD, just that it takes video in a high resolution 1920x1080 format.

Either way though, for fan shot DVDs, ideally you should probably be like 30 rows back dead center.

Give it a shot though, I'm sure it'll look just fine and the more videos the better.

Re: Two Step from Jones Beach - VIDEO and poll for DVD

well, this Kodak Zx1 is my cousin's, and he took it to Fenway and took videos of the game. he has a HD tv and was able to hook up the camera to that and you could tell it was HD. they came out really well. i dont know why this video wouldn't be as good. maybe the zoom has something to do with it. if i don't zoom in, it might preserve the full quality and not become grainy.

as for future recordings, i have Bethel Woods coming up, and im in sec 11 row G. im all the way off on the side, but its only about 30 rows back, plus the distance for the walking paths and stuff. thats about half the distance that i was at Jones Beach, where i was in sec 8L row FF, which in most pavilions is like lawn. i'll take some videos from Bethel and post them and see if they are any better quality. if they are, then i'll try my best to make some dvds. i'd have 2 nights of Camden and Scranton to play with.

You need to doublecheck to see what the length of the video is you can take with specific formats. For instance, on HD, I can only take a video with the length of 8:37. The format that I usually lose (16:9, 30 FPS) is 15:00. Don't know why, but that's the case.

I have thought about getting a Flip HD, but the quality of my videos are excellent...so I haven't worried about it so far.

Spoot, just watch for women waving their goddamn arms like they're a fucking gypsy. I've been dealt that hand the last few shows I've been to...the woman in front of me at Alpine N2 followed my camera like a magnet. I'd move, she'd move...it was so frustrating. And always got in the way at the best parts.

1- how would i check that?? i don't think thats a problem though, because although the Two Step video is over 9 minutes long, i have shorter videos, around 4-5 minutes that look the same. also, youtube recognized the video as HD.

2- i know, people moving around are a pain in the ass. if i were to record, i would talk to the people in front of me. i would try to get a short girl directly in front so i don't have anybody standing in the way, and i would explain to them that i am trying to record the show to make into a dvd and their cooperation would be greatly appreciated. i wouldnt want them to not have a good time, but just be mindful of what is behind them.

Re: Two Step from Jones Beach - VIDEO and poll for DVD

I have had *horrible* luck with people in front of me. I've just been able to make it work.

You can check it when recording. The length will show up on the LCD.

And yes, YouTube will recognize it. But you should reserve the HD for short clips; they tax the battery, take up more space, etc. I used two 8GB cards at Alpine N2...took three HD videos (I think Shake Me, You Never Know, and something else). It eats up space quickly.

this camera doesnt have a time listed at all on the screen except when filming and it shows how long the video is.

and my batteries actually held up better with this than my normal digital camera. i turned it on at least 10 different times and took at least 30 minutes of HD video and the battery was still at least half way. i can run it straight through for an hour before the batteries die. and there is a 16gb card in the camera. i can get about 4 hours of HD video on it.

If you play around with the display settings, you may find how to view that information.

I assume that you got extra batteries to compensate for the battery drain. Alpine N2 was the only time my battery ran out after being full (I'm not even convinced it was full, to be honest), and even then, it ran out on the final two seconds of Halloween.

The 16GB card is nice. I have to get one off of Amazon before Camden. I'm planning on going to at least one show, if the funds are there.

i forgot about the pit. i don't know how many rows there are there, but my tickets are 104 L. don't know what seat #s though as they are WH tickets. i might be able to change that if what my friend was telling the truth. supposedly he got his hands on 2 Live Nation employee shirts, one of which has "Supervisor" on the back. and Camden just happens to be a LN venue. free roam?? hmmm......i think so.

i have no idea how to play around with the settings. i dont have the booklet, and my cousin has barely used it, so he doesn't know either. its a very simplistic camera. im not even sure if it would be possible to change settings on it.

i ran the camera with full batteries to see how long they last and it was like 59 minutes. i always bring extras anyway, but i wanted to know how long batteries could go for. i could easily switch out 2 AAs between songs, as long as i know how far into the batteries i am. but i didn't even need the extras the other night.
