LeRoi's Seven part on Scenes from Big Whiskey Pt. 4

I was just watching Scenes from BW-4... There's a part where they have previously recorded LeRoi material going with Seven and its PHENOMENAL. I guess it didn't make the final cut and I don't know why the hell not. If you have access to the video go have a listen.

Also iTunes Pass has a SMLAM Live Performance ready for D/L... Mix is a lil wonky, vocals really seem to over power instruments...

Re: LeRoi's Seven part on Scenes from Big Whiskey Pt. 4

it does sound incredible. the looks on Carter's and Dave's faces are amazing. you can tell they're really emotional while listening to that.

i think that it didn't make the cut b/c it was just noodling and i actually think he was playing someone's else's song, if i remember correctly. it sounded familiar when i watched that doc.

Carter seems to really dig that part. I liked it as well.

Re: LeRoi's Seven part on Scenes from Big Whiskey Pt. 4

Leroi was noodling for a groove. It is easily distinguishable in the studio Seven. They couldn't just put in a track of his that meanders the song and has no structure. The part of Leroi's on Seven is a structured horn riff that can be seen both in the documentary and in the studio version of the song if you listen to the parts that sound familiar.

. Noodling for a groove. They put the groove that fit on the song.

Absolutely not. The reason they picked out that Roi part is because they believed there was at least a groove within that noodling they could use on the song, they found the right one and applied it perfectly. Seven is a very well structured song and a pretty damn good studio cut.

Agreed. They definitely picked out the best idea that he came up with.

I tried to hear it before I posted but even with a pair of Bose QC2s I swear I couldn't. I'm one of the people who loves seven and maybe what's there is perfect, but then I wish it were just a bit more prominent. But it's possible I'm just a biased sax player. When I saw them this year Seven was kinda rough and I went for sustinence during Cornbread and missed the beginning, but does this come out any more live than onthe album?

If I am not mistaken, the part you guys are referring to is around the 2:20 marker...love it...

...It also kind of reminds me of the Typical Situation jam...maybe that's just me though...

It's from the 1812 Overture.

Re: LeRoi's Seven part on Scenes from Big Whiskey Pt. 4

This part of the documentary always bugs the shit out of me. I can dig how Dave and Carter are digging hearing 'Roi playing again, but the whole thing sounds awful. Maybe it's just my sound system, but the guitar and bass sound like they're in a completely different key from 'Roi's playing. Of course, I cringe anytime I hear that song, finished or otherwise.

Its Carter's first time hearing it in front Dave who already loved it...On Camera.

Later, off camera, they said, that just doesn't work unfortunately.
