Post-2009 Tour: DMB should take a break, then put out another solid album

The band should really do something with all of the songs they've played over the years that we never heard in the studio. After the tour is over, they could take a couple of months off and turn right around and release a solid album within a few months time.

Sweet Up and Down
Crazy-Easy
Loving Wings
New Song
Sugar Will
Idea of You
Good Good Time
Run While We Can
New Song
JTR
New Song
Shotgun
#40

I'm bad at making tracklist orders, but you get the idea. I know a couple of those tunes are from the Lillywhite Sessions, but I would be very excited to see something like this in 2010. Not sure what the band sees in some of these tunes that makes them unworthy of being recorded in the studio and released. Anyone else agree?

Yes that would be wonderful, I am thinking the next album will contain songs like that. It is a perfect time for THAT album.

I dont see why they dont do it since it would be a very easy record to produce and write. They really need to take a break though. I would say at least a year is required although I think if they take a year they might never come back.

I don't think they need a break. From the reviews of last night, they are as on fire as ever. If they like playing, keep playing!

Re: Post-2009 Tour: DMB should take a break, then put out another solid album

The real question is do we want to sit through an album tour with all these songs again. 2004 and 2006 would have essentially been the album tour for most of these songs

Do they like playing or do they like making $50 million a summer? This tour has been very solid, but there are times when they put it on cruise control.

Well I wouldn't mind because I love most of these songs and I wasn't a fan yet back then. I know some people would prefer not to see some of these tunes again, but I think it would be awesome.

oh, and Go Celtics!

Honestly, I wouldnt want them to rush anything at all. i mean, they didnt rush Big Whiskey at all, and look how those songs turned out. I'm not at all against them making another album again, its the fact of them making another one SOON that puzzles me. Give it a year or so to evolve these songs and I'm game.

Absolutely. Time will only tell how good the BW songs end up being live, but there are already a few monsters in the making (LITHOG, AP, Seven) and maybe some time away from those songs will make us miss them more and the band can polish them up a bit more.

I think that they should just keep playing, considering how they've sounded over the past couple of months!

I would love to see the songs the OP listed in a decently heavy rotation.

How about make a solid album without a break from touring, like this year.

Re: Post-2009 Tour: DMB should take a break, then put out another solid album

This will never happen. I'm not sure why everyone jumps to these old songs to compile a record. It isn't going to happen, we'll never see a finished JTR or most of the 04 songs. The only songs that have a remote chance of being officially released from the studio are Sugar Will, Shotgun, or IOY. SUAD is a dark horse since it was recorded recently but nothing was done with it, same with Loving Wings. The others are dead in the studio, but live, sure.
