So I'm at my campus Publix

or as everyone in Tallahassee calls it "CLUBLIX" (Playboy ranked it as one of the top ten places in the country to meet women) And over the parking lot speakers "Dive In" was playing. I walked up to a dude and was like "Is that song coming from someones car?" and he was like "nah man" and pointed to the speakers.

It must have been SATelllITE radio because I'm positive local radio stations aren't even allowed to play it. I mean unless they pay $$$$

Anyways I got really freakin excited to hear me some Big Whiskey over the big speakers

As far as I know Dive IN is not on the radio yet.

You don't have to pay to play a cut off an album that is not a single. At least when I was in the radio business, that was not the case. With testicle radio falling apart these days, maybe this is the case now. New to me though.

Publix is awesome. Much cleaner and nicer than Winn-Dixie, though more expensive, but I do love their Publix O.J.

I've heard that some bands had become famous due to the fact that some DJ flipped the promotional record and played the B-side.

Any song from the album can be played on the radio.

I am actually pretty sure radio stations can play whatever they want. Right after the cd came out I was hearing LITHOG and Shake Me on XRT in Chicago, and I am pretty sure they played WIA before it was released as a single too.

Agreed on this.

The people of Camp Hill/Mechanicsburg, PA, have it great. Giant opened the biggest store in the state a few years ago. It was great...first store that had WiFi, it had a Panda Express, all sorts of crap. Seriously, it was fantastic.

Then Wegman's came in in 2007. And ever since, there's been a war. I wish I still lived there. Hartford has the worst grocery stores I've ever seen. They're horrible.

Wegman's has some of the greatest pizza I've ever had. When I go to visit, we actually order from there instead of a couple of other pizza places I really like. And I've *never* been able to make it through an entire sub.

Re: So I'm at my campus Publix

Radio stations can play whatever they want, and just pay blanket license fees each year, if the guy in charge is cool. Most DJs have to follow a pre-programmed set though, which is why radio sucks ass. So for all Clear Channel stations, there are researches in the main headquarters that get info for each area and send those stations what their shitty playlists they have to play.

But you can play whatever you want, the reason the singles are played 18 thousand times a day is because that's what people want to hear in their 15 minute drive to work.

Re: So I'm at my campus Publix

Is the general rule stations can play whatever they want, but they'll get paid to play singles?

that's illegal, that's what the whole payola scandal is.

EDIT: And is why one of the highest paying jobs in the biz now is the guy that pitches songs to stations. They get a ton of money for each song they land, since it's a lot harder when you can't bribe them with trips to sunny California hah.

Soooo, they just get copies of the singles so technically it makes it easier to play them?

well, for artists like DMB who have massive fanbases, most radio people won't think twice about putting them on. But when stations only play like 12 songs an hour in between commercials and stupid blabbering, and 6 of those will be played again in 2 hours, and 2 are old singles, etc, A LOT of shit gets left out. So midsize artists are often harder to get played for labels.

Heard Shake Me on this Nashville radio station about 6 weeks ago, but for some stations, especially when they're "independant radio stations" they can (i think) play whatever the hell they want.

Get a sub next time. Any sub. Look at how frickin monstrous it is.

That entire area has blown up over the past couple of years. It's absurd. Every time I come back, there's something else up.

I think what impresses me the most about Wegman's, above their food and the reasonable cost, is that the place, from the outside, looks like a castle. Like the big castle you have to go through on Level 8 of Super Mario 3.

Any time I'm driving up to the parking lot, I feel like I'm on a mission to destroy Bowser once and for all.

(No, I don't...but I know I'll think this the next time I'm there, around Christmas or so).

By the way, both my father and I are pizza fundamentalists. Floppy slices, greasy pizza, good crust...this is the way pizza needs to be. I think that's why Wegman's impresses me even more...when we go visit my grandfather at Country Meadows (retirement village off of Trindle Road, not too far away), and we agree on pizza (which is what we do when I come home), my dad calls up Wegman's right away. Not My Place or Peppino's on the Pike...no, he calls up the grocery store.

That's true talent, my friends. Wegman's is oozing with it.
