Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

Central Park was 6 years ago today....amazing how time flies. I remember my road trip to NYC from Chicagoland as if it were yesterday. It was incredible. I still take great pride in being one of the 90,000+ people in attendence that great evening. It was my first time in NYC and will always remember it fondly.

Re: Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

Wow - 6 years! I had to look up at my Central Park poster on the wall to make sure you were right. I was always a casual fan of the band up until then, but that was the first night I really got what they were all about. I'll never forget them all standing on stage and hugging each other after it was over, commemorating such a huge night in their career. For a lot of people, RR '95 is the quintessential live recording that all others compare to. For me, it's CP.

Re: Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

Central Park DVD made me a devout fan of this band. My mind just melted by every performance on every disc.

CP DDTW may be the best single live recording of any song they've ever released...with CP Nancies >> Warehouse as a close second.

If you would listen to the CP album you'd hear a strange clicking sound caused by Carter. I suggest you never listen to CP again, it'll ruin your life...

Re: Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

My story btw:

I went to a previous show for the 1st time 8-25-03, and was asked by a friend to buy tix for CP bc he didnt have a credit card and said the tix were free. At this point i didnt really like Dave. So we took an early train and got there around 9 am, we were about 1 block back. By the time it was 12 the streets were filled and we were in a really good position. I remember going through 3-4 secuirty chekcpoints before we were able to literally run to get a spot. I didnt care where i was standing but my friends were running so i jumped on the band wagon along with them.. We were literally 20 feet from the stage and on the rail.. I'm not sure but it was about 6 when we got in and it was so HOT and i bought about 3 water for $8 each and keep in mind you couldnt move. When the band finally came on and started don't drink the water i was immediately blown away and have been hooked since that moment. After the show Carter threw out a couple sticks. My friend caught one and was attacked by some crazed fan that was apparently holding a carter sign. If i wasnt fucked up and knew the significance of the stick i would of helped her get it back but by the time i realized he ran off. Anyway it was the best day of my life and i cherish it so much bc it changed me forever.

Re: Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

Best DMB show ever, PERIOD. Was a fan of their's initially when my cousins gave me UTTAD and Crash for two consecutive Xmas' when i was in elementary school (mid-90's) and then towards the end of h.s./beginning of college I started abandoning DMB. THEN, during the summer of '06 (Jr.in college), i listened to DMB live at CP from a friend and I seriously have never looked back since, even for a second. This show changed my life.

Re: Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

Ah what a great day that was. I remember it like it was yesterday... (queue the "dreaming music" please... )

We got into the city early, did some boozin around town and then headed over to the line. We couldn't see the front of the line, so the rest of my friends got in at the end and I walked up to the front to see how long it was. "Very" was the answer, but thankfully as I approached the front, I saw a friend of mine who had me jump in and call up my friends to join. Saved the day!

We were among the first into the park, and after some waiting, we made that epic run from the back of the lawn to the front- and ended up what would have been 3-4 rows back (if there were rows). We put someone up on someone else's shoulders to find all members of our crew that had been lost in the crazy run across the lawn (this is visible in the 'Behind the scenes" part of the CP DVD btw), and then we stood sweating and dehydrated until the show started. We were troopers that day... people were dropping like flies all around us... either leaving, or passing out and getting taken away (can see someone getting taken away by golf-cart-ambulance early on in the show... that was right next to us). It was an epic show, epic venue, and a day that I will never ever forget!!!

Re: Happy 6th Anniversary Central Park

I remember the whole day.

Waiting down the street in line for hours then the run when the gates opened. I couldn't believe how many people were running, it was like there was free money at the front. Ended up about 15 feet from the stage, the waiting sucked because it was hot as hell, but well worth the wait.

The whole show was spectacular. This isnt the best show I have seen but it is still the most in tune/best musical performance I have ever seen from them. There are definitive versions of many of the songs played at this show. Truly remarkable experience.
