Phoenix (band)

that band is awesome. perfect pop/electro/dance music...1901 is the song of the year for me and they just played a killer show in central park with passion pit.

http://pitchfork.com/artists/3305-phoenix/

the reason i made this thread because probably my favorite album of the year Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is getting fully remixed by animal collective. im really excited to hear this mix.

Re: Phoenix (band)

Are we making a thread for each band we listen to now? I've seen about 20 of them in the past month. Especially when they're bands that get talked about all the time in the album of the day thread, it's a bit weird.

There album is good, maybe top 25 of the year good, though. But the album isn't being remixed by Animal Collective. AC is one of the bands that are going to remix the album. Others are Passion Pit, Friendly Fires, Devendra Banhart, Chairlift, and Yacht.

Re: Phoenix (band)

If that came off dickish, I didn't mean it, Berman. I've just seen about 20 "hey, a band!" threads in the past few weeks, and found it funny. Phoenix are one of the more deserving bands for one, I guess.

That was my first reaction. It took me a couple listens to like 1901.

I can barely wait. (I know exactly what you're talking about )

I'm really curious to see what they come up with this time around. I loved the first half of Rising Down, the second half was good, but the album felt unbalanced in a way. Game Theory was excellent, due to the direct transitions and dark subject matter.

If the live version of How I Got Over on Fallon was any example of the album. It's going to be their best work yet.

I don't know how I feel about hearing them in a Cadillac commercial, but then again I felt the same way about Wilco in a VW commercial.

Does it really matter if a song you like is on a commercial?

But then other people may start liking it too, man! Then there's no way I could like the band they wouldn't be indie enough!

Re: Phoenix (band)

Saw these guys the other night and they well exceeded my expectations. The crowd was really into it and I think that caught the band by surprise. They definitely fed of that energy. They covered "playground love" by Air and played a sick version of Rome that went on forever. Their albums do no justice in terms of how good their drummer is. Great show.

Saw them at Austin City Limits this afternoon, and honestly, this band was the highlight of the day for me and several other people I talked to. They were fantastic, and the crowd was very into it.
