Looking into upgrading guitar.

Im looking at a Breedlove Atlas Stage D25/SR Dread Acoustic-Electric, wondering if anyone has any experience with this model. I would appreciate advice or recommendations to other guitars thanks.

Re: Looking into upgrading guitar.

Sorry, I have no experience with Breedloves, but I can tell you some other guitars that are great.

However, before I can give you a recommendation I would need to know your price range and what you will be using it for and what you want to be playing on it.

Re: Looking into upgrading guitar.

Seems like a lot of money for a guitar made in china with laminate sides. You can spend less and get a nicer guitar from Larrivee.

I'm sorry, Korean made. Still, better values available from both Martin and Larrivee.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. If you've played it and it sounds good and you're satisfied with the craftsmanship, then fine. Asian-made guitars always make me think twice, however.

Re: Looking into upgrading guitar.

Price range would be 1000 max, and I would be using it just to play on my own, not with a band or anything.

I don't know if you have your heart set on a Breedlove, but my recommendation would be this Seagull (for an acoustic-electric dreadnought):

Top-notch craftsmanship (in Canada) and extremely high quality woods.

Re: Looking into upgrading guitar.

I played the Breedlove and liked it, but I also havent really looked into many other guitars so I want to be patient and make a good buy instead of regretting it down the road haha

the guitar doesnt have to be acoustic electric either, thanks for all your help.

Re: Looking into upgrading guitar.

Take a look at the Guild GAD line. All solid wood guitars, and should be $1000 or less. I have a GAD 40CE, and I adore it! Check out my Youtube videos, that is the acoustic I use.

You could also take a look in some lesser expensive Alvarez guitars, they are very good for their price.

The Martin DM and the Martin D Custom guitars are very good as well.

The construction of an Acoustic, especially a solid wood one, is a whole different animal. Nearly an entire electric can be done with a CNC machine, even hardware can be installed by robots. Acoustics require a lot more hand labor and time to construct. I've seen a bunch of mexican tele's that had better setups and QA than their USA counterparts (a few years ago at least). I have not ever seen a Korean Breedlove that even remotely stacked up to the old ones, in tone or construction. It's glueball city in those things.

Takamine and BlueRidge tend to have pretty good wood shops for acoustics if you are gonna go Asian.

Re: Looking into upgrading guitar.

If my budget were $1000 I would get a Larrivee. In fact, when my budget was 1k, I did. Great all around guitar, sounds halfway between a Taylor and Martin. Their whole line is really balanced tone wise, whereas Martins are gonna be warmer, Taylors brighter, etc. Figure out what body type you like and run with it.

If I had $1000 and wanted something that sounded like a Martin, I might look into one of the solid wood BlueRidge's. Apparently they have gotten pretty good, and sound very, very close to a Martin dread. The BR-160 is a slid Rosewood back and side, spruce top dread, retails for like $750- and apparently is a dead ringer soundwise for a D-28. I was up in NC and saw a ton of these things in pickin' circles:
