Pixies Live Blows Live DMB Away.

Seriously, it's hard to put into words just how awesome Pixies were last night. They opened the show showing a remixed version of Un Chien Andalou, an experimental short film from 1929. This instantly got the crowd into it. Then they played a few B-sides from Doolittle, their 1989 MASTERPIECE. They then played Doolittle in its entirety. During all of the songs during this part of the set, they played a different short film behind the band for every song. For the first encore, the played 2 more Doolittle B-Sides. During the second song, the filled the entire room with smoke. After these two songs, and the band left the stage. 5 minutes later, they came back for a second encore and played 3 songs from Surfer Rosa (another masterpiece DMB could never dream of topping) and one from Trompe Le Monde (Which is kinda Pixies Stand Up...except it's not as good. ). They closed with Where Is My Mind?

The energy of the show is what REALLY stands out though. DMB shows have a tendency to kinda go flat in the middle in my experience, going on for too long with too much filler. This set was about an hour and a half of awesome, no songs feeling like they shouldn't have been played. The band was funny when they spoke AND understandable, instead of a bunch of odd mumbling and weird noises. I have NEVER seen a crowd so into a band before.

Both are awesome though, but if you get the chance to see Pixies on this tour, do so.

Go out and buy/dl/whatever, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, and Bossanova. You won't regret it. They are arguably the most important band in music history since Queen or U2.

I really really want to make an articulate, well-thought-out statement about how this particular thread belongs in nDMBc, that thread creations should be monitored more closely, and that the OP should really figure things out if they are going to start threads on this website, but Pixies are just TOO FUCKING GOOD. I love the Pixies but you need to get your head out of your crack when trying to front on dmb. The talent in dmb is light years ahead of the Pixies, and thats not even taking anything away from the Pixies.

In short, if dmb took a 15 year hiatus then came back and reformed at the Hollywood Palladium for 500 people and played the BTCS album plus some older tunes I really don't think OP would be so cocksure about whose energy level tops whose.

To say DMB is more talented/important/on their best day better than Pixies is just silly.

If DMB took a 15 year hiatus, Dave's voice would still be shot, Boyd would still be out of tune, Fonz would still be given nothing to do, and Carter would be suffering insane arthritis. I don't know how amped I'd be for BTCS the whole way through either. Busted Stuff all the way through would be amazing though.
