Sister/Baby Blue Leroi

At first I thought that Dave just in a way got lazy and reused the sound of "Sister" in "Baby Blue" but if you listen to the concert the night Leroi died he played "Sister" right after his intro speach about Leroi. I am not sure if he says anything about the connection (kind of hard to hear) but I am pretty sure there is. Maybe Sister was one of Leroi's favorite songs, and that is why Dave played it that night and used the sound for a song that definitely has Leroi in mind. tell me what you guys think

I believe Dave wrote BB, played it for Roi and Roi told him to keep it a tiny tune with a big punch. A little gem for the album.

At the Grammy's event interview Dave did w/ Cavallo, I think he talked about this?

Nice find! I like when he was saying of the temptation to bring in heaver stuff into the song but that can kill it. That is so true, it is just nice, simple, and sounds amazing.

im telling everyone it says Ashley right in the drawing. It doesn't say Leroi anywhere. I think that this is a bigger clue as to what this song is about than anything

I think it was at least inspired by Roi.

That's pretty specific to the loss of a friend.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Dave categorically said in an interview that it IS about LeRoi. Annoyingly though, I can't find the interview either.

Dave uses blue in a lot of songs to symbolise death. Grace Is Gone and The Stone are two examples if I remember correctly.

i know i know.... but baby blue just has a different feel to me. It sounds like what he would say to his wife or a sister ("my love" "you're my baby blue."). It doesn't sound like what a man would write about another man. Flame away, but it just doesnt sound/feel like a song about Roi

I'm sure he thought about Roi every single day since 1991. He saw and spent time with him most days. I'm positive he felt love towards him.

I remember hearing once that Dave said the song is about losing someone and grief, which is what happened with Roi. But that doesnt mean it was written about him, it just applys to him

I thought for sure that Baby Blue was about Roi. Didn't dave post on his twitter "writing a goodbye letter to a dear friend"....wasn't that supposed to signify the lyrics to baby blue? yall are confusing the shit out of me.

Actually, I believe Baby Blue is referring the character Blue from Old School. Rumor has it Dave felt very connected to the character and was inspired by Will Ferrell's performance at his funeral, and instead of saying "You're my boy Blue" he says "You're my baby Blue".

To those who think blue is referring to the color of the eyes I think it is safe to assume that is wrong. YOur blue blue eyes is not talking about the color but the sadness in the eyes. Dave did say that Roi was a troubled soul or something to that affect. However, I still am not convinced that this song is solely about Roi. I do think that it applies to him intentionally but Dave also had his wife ashley in mind for this song. In the drawing for this song it says ashley twice right at about the shoulders of the angels. Obviously Dave wanted to show people that this songs was in some way about her.
