For example, Phish's drummer might have to play 4 different meters in one song, some arguably being 15/8, or 12/8. Point being that one of Trey's pieces are far more techincal than Daves to the point where individual skill techincality is trumped by compositional technicality. Just because Jeff can run up and down the horn doesn't lead to the whole tune being more techincal. Your arguing from two different aspects and overlooking details, you can't just do that.
2. Trey's solo's are not the highlight of any show. His compositional skills definitly are the first and most important aspect to their live versatility. Trey writes over tons of genres of music, Dave doesn't. Your mis interpreting the difference between soloing and conversing. DMB solo's, if you actually listen to Phish, which you obviously dont all that much you would hear conversational music taking place in almost any jam. Also, in phish's case, if trey is going to solo without any other band memebers soloing he writes that into a piece. For example the end of "Sample In a Jar" has a specific place for Trey to solo and their is very little other band member input. Don't confuse soloing with conversing. Most things you call trey soloing are all 4 band memebrs improvising to some extent, they are just that tight and good.
Trust me, phans don't go to a phish show to see trey solo, point being Trey's solos are far from the main draw of the show. You definitely have missed a few points.
3. Three world class musicians? get off your high horse buddy. They are all good musicians, i'd even agree "world class". If you want to speak in terms of worldy musical relavence and influecnce, Trey easily beats out any of those musicans, that's just the truth.
just wanted to get a few things out there

We are arguing two different things apparently.
I was discussing the technical merits of each individual band member, not the unit as a whole.
#1. From an individual, technical standpoint; it goes something like this:
Carter>Fish
Jeff + Rashawn>Page
Dave Vocally>Trey Vocally
Gordon>Fonz
Trey>Tim
Boyd is not a technical force by any means, but he is the best showman out of everyone listed above - so I give him a pass.
I think that is fairly accurate... Therefore, I can see how someone COULD argue DMB on an INDIVIDUAL basis has more talent then Phish.
#2. When the previous poster said DMB was more versatile I said; versatile is an ambiguous term. If by versatile he really meant “musically diverse”, I can see his point.
Just from an instrumental standpoint alone –
i.e. DMB having a sax, trumpet, violin, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar > Phish have a electric guitar, keys, and bass.
This gives DMB the ability to explore an array of different sounds that Phish is unable to pursue with their line up. That is not a bad thing; it is just the way it is… Therefore I can see how an argument can be made.
Lastly, as far as me being on my "high horse" for calling some members of DMB world class - I stand by my classification.
Jeff and Carter are "world class." Timmy - if not world class, is just one step below.
The ONLY member of Phish that can be in the “world class” conversation is Trey... Period… Again, I am only discussing the band members, not the band by itself.
So I appreciate your pretentious, "I am an elite" phish phan speech...
For your information, I do listen to phish... I started listening to them in the early 90's.. I actually grew up in Burlington Vermont where you couldn't escape their music even if you tried and, I have been to several shows as well.
Personally, I like Phish a lot, but I am not delusional with the belief that Trey is the reincarnation of Mozart - like many members of the phish community. They are just another band that I like… That’s it… Hardcore phish phans have a real tough time accepting the fact that people can like phish, without worshiping them
